LAC LEAD 1-0(2) LOS ANGELES
CLIPPERSvs. (7) PHOENIX SUNS Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA April 24, 2011 Matchups Baron Davis PG Steve Nash Eric Gordon SG Vince Carter Wilson Chandler SF Grant Hill Blake Griffin PF Antonie Walker DeAndre Jordan C Mehmet Okur CLIPPERS TAKE GAME 1 WITH DEFENSE
THE FACTS: The first playoff game for the team in 5 years and against Steve Nash and the Phoenix Sun, who eliminated the Clippers in Game 7 of the second round the last time they faced in the playoffs. The crowd was buzzing and the Clippers were pumped as they controlled the tip and Blake Griffin had a shot of his first playoff basket...he missed the layup...but he rebounded it and put it back in. The Clippers would make the next 6 FG and the Suns missed their first 3 FG. The Clippers knew they had to do it on defense because of how good an offensive team the Suns are, and they did as they got in the passing lanes, contested shots, and rebounded. The Clipper lead would grow as high as 17 points. But the Suns kept at it as Vince Carter started to pour in jumpshots right over the defense. Suns 3Point shooting would keep them close. Aaron Brooks came in the 2Q and scored 12 points including 2 3Pointers to tie the game. A quick timeout by VDN to put in Blake Griffin lead to an 8-0 run by the Clippers which had 6 points come from Wilson Chandler. In the 3Q the Clippers were still in control, but the Suns offense was just starting to heat up. With some more 3Point shooting the Sun would take their first lead of the game of 2 points. The Clippers never let it grow any higher with their tight defense and their offense would quickly rally back to tie the game and get the lead back. The game was close going into the 4Q, until Nick Young scored the Clippers first 10 points and put all the momentum with the Clippers. By then all the Clippers were rolling and hitting shots all over the floor, there was no Suns defense in sight. With the Clippers up by 16 with about a minute to play, VDN pulled the starters and put in the bench. Bring on game 2!
THE STAT: Turnaround at the half, Clippers shot only 30% from 3Point in the first half, but got hot for an amazing 53% in the second half
QUOTABLE: Blake Griffin, "It was a complete team effort. I knew we could do it. I told the guys we could do it. And here we are, game 2 up 1."
HOT: Nick Young burned the Sun in the 4Q with the Clippers first 10 points which included 2 3Pointers and lead to Clipper momentum until the end of the game
NOT: Antonie Walker has revived his career with the Suns, but recently has been injured and in this game was in foul trouble not helping his team to only 6 points
GOOD MOVE: Early in the game a steal put Eric Gordon on the break where he threw an alley-oop for Blake Griffin to slam down over Steve Nash
BAD MOVE: DeAndre Jordan miss jumps a rebound, but tips it after Memhet Okur grabs the ball, Wilson Chandler picks it up and passes it to a cutting Eric Gordon who is too far under the basket and blows the layup

CLIPPERSvs. (7) PHOENIX SUNS Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA April 26, 2011 Matchups Baron Davis PG Steve Nash Eric Gordon SG Vince Carter Wilson Chandler SF Grant Hill Blake Griffin PF Antonie Walker DeAndre Jordan C Mehmet Okur SUN DAMAGE?
THE FACTS: Both teams were very competitive at the start, the offense was precise and the defense was tough. Thanks to some hot 3Point shooting by Wilson Chandler and Eric Gordon the Clippers were able to come out of the 1Q with a 3 point lead. In Game 1 it took 3 and a half quarters until the Clippers were able to blow the game out, in Game 2, it took the Clippers only 1 and a half quarters. In the 2Q, the Suns went completely limp as they shot only 40% and missed all 5 3Point attempts. The Clippers enjoyed a 14 point lead going into halftime. The 3Q started to look better as Vince Carter was able to trim the lead down to 6 points, but the Clippers regrouped and grew the lead. By the end of the 3Q the Clippers were blowing the Suns out by 23 points. The 4Q was completely garbage time as the Clippers starters rested the entire quarter. One would have thought that the Clippers bench would have let up against the Suns starters, but no. The Clippers as a team were rolling so hot that the bench increased the lead to 32 points and kept it there until the final buzzer. The Clippers will not travel to Phoenix for Game 3, but it seems as if the Suns have gotten their prides damaged.
THE STAT: Vince Carter had 38 points, but his team lost by 32 points
QUOTABLE: Steve Nash, "The only thing we can do is put this behind them and be ready to dish it back out in Phoenix."
HOT: The Clippers team, point guards Baron Davis and Eric Bledsoe combined for 27 assists as they found their teammates, who were all hot
NOT: The entire Suns team, except Vince Carter, was cold and as a team they only had 27 assists
GOOD MOVE: Baron Davis on the break had Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin running to the basket, the Suns defense pulled to Blake and Baron threw a wide open alley-oop to Eric Gordon
BAD MOVE: Late in the game Suns Patrick Beverly went up for a jumpshot since Eric Bledsoe was out of position, instead of taking the wide open shot, he tired to kick it out but ended up throwing it out of bounds
