Rose, Bulls complete sweep of Celtics
Derrick Rose shows KG that actions speak louder than words
Boston, MA - The Boston Celtics' years of dominance are over.
Derrick Rose made sure of it.
Rose dominated with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals, and the Bulls send the Boston Celtics home in a 4 game sweep with a 94-87 victory in Boston.
Joakim Noah once again played a huge role, putting in another double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds alongside 5 blocks. Carlos Boozer chipped in with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Luol Deng had 12 and 7. Kirk Hinrich also scored in double figures with 11 points.
"It was a collective effort tonight" said Byron Scott "Guys played hard and played well on both ends of the floor"
The Celtics actually played a little harder, and the small difference on the boards showed it. Boston, not a good rebounding team, managed to outrebound Chicago 46 to 43, but their 10 turnovers ultimately cost them the game.
On the offensive end, Boston had some balanced scoring with six players in double figures. Paul Pierce led the way with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Kevin Garnett added 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds, including 5 offensive boards. Rasheed Wallace also had a double double as he notched 10 points and 12 boards.
Guard Ray Allen managed 13 points and backup point guard Andre Miller once again had a big game, coming up with 15 points on a perfect 4 for 4 performance from the field and 7 for 7 from the charity stripe in 12 minutes off the bench, but once again Rajon Rondo was held down to a horrible offensive performance by the Chicago defense.
Rondo was just 5 for 17 from the field and finished with a mere 11 points and 5 assists, not the performance you'd expect from an All-Star and the leader in triple doubles during the regular season.
"Their defense on Rajon has been great all series long" said Doc Rivers "They forced him into places where he's not that effective, and it hurt us"
This victory by the Bulls marks the first time that the franchise has ever defeated the Celtics in a playoff series, and it is certainly sweet revenge against the team that knocked them out in their two previous postseason meetings, one in 09 and once last season.
This also marks the first time the Celtics are unable to advance to the second round in the big three era, or indeed, unable to even win one postseason game.
Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, who spoke with confidence and waved off Chicago's 3-0 lead following game three, refused to answer any of the media's questions.
The Bulls now advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they will wait to face off against the winner of the Miami-Milwaukee series.
The Bucks currently lead that series 3 games to 1.

Unanimous picks Washburn, Barnes leads T-Mobile All-Rookie team roster
By Official Release
Posted April 26 2011 2:16PM
NEW YORK -- T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year Liam Washburn of the Miami Heat, and number 1 overall pick Harrison Barnes of the Milwaukee Bucks, headline the 2011-12 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team as unanimous selections, the NBA announced today.
Joining Washburn and Barnes on the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team are the Indiana Pacers' Perry Jones (56 points), Octavius Ocho of the San Antonio Spurs (54 points), and Minnesota's Rodney Williams (44 points).
The 2011-12 T-Mobile Rookie of the Year, Washburn averaged a rookie-third best 12.5 points and a rookie-best 6.5 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee's Harrison Barnes averaged 15.2 points (second best amongst rookies), 5.0 rebounds (4th amongst rookies), and 1.3 assists (5th in rookies) coming off the bench for the Bucks as the team's sixth man.
Jones ranked 4th in points (11.7), 1st in rebounds (7.1), 1st in steals (1.0), and 2nd in blocks (1.2) amongst all rookies for the Indiana Pacers. He proved to be a budding defensive force this season, and showed plenty of potential as a piece the young Pacers could build around.
Similarily, 7 foot 1 center from Sudan Octavius Ocho has been a defensive presence for the San Antonio Spurs. Ocho seized his opportunity when starting center Greg Oden went down with an injury and shined in the 30 replacement starts. Ocho was second amongst rookies in rebounding at 6.6 per game and 1st in blocked shots with 1.5 per contest.
A bit of a controversal selection was Minnesota's Rodney Williams, who statistically did not rank in the top of the rookie leaders but was selected to the first team over Rookie of the Year runner-up Will Sit. Williams did provide some solid play for the Timberwolves over the course of the season and had a solid outing in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge during the All Star Weekend.
The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Portland's Will Sit (43 points), Toronto's Jonas Valanciunas (26 points), the Cavaliers' Greg Smith (19 points), New York's William Buford (18 points), and Robbie Hummel of the Utah Jazz (14 points).
The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.

NEW YORK -- Josh Smith of the Miami Heat is the recipient of the 2011-12 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, the NBA announced today.
Traded to the Miami Heat from the Chicago Bulls in the off-season along with Dwyane Wade, the 2009-10 Defensive Player of the Year has made his presence felt on the defensive end for his new ball club almost immediately. Smith is a versatile defender that can defend multiple positions and provides great defense to his team. The 6 foot 9 forward from Oak Hill Academy is tied for second in steals in the regular season with 2.6 steals per game, and is third in blocks at 2.8 per contest. Additionally, Smith also grabbed a team-best 9.2 rebounds per game. With the presence of Smith, the Heat allowed a league-best 90.8 points per game from the opposition.
Smith received 431 points, including 70 first-place votes, from a panel of 130 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Chicago's Joakim Noah finished second with 206 points and last season's defensive player of the year award recipient Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic finished third with 158 points. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote received.
Smith now joins the short list of players who have won this award multiple times since its inception in the 1982–83 NBA season. Dikembe Mutombo, Ben Wallace, Dwight Howard, Sidney Moncrief, Mark Eaton, Dennis Rodman, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Alonzo Mourning.
The 2011-12 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award is part of a series of on-court performance awards called "The Kia NBA Performance Awards." The series, currently in its fourth season, is a significant part of the multiyear marketing partnership between Kia Motors America and the NBA, and also includes the Most Improved Player, Sixth Man and Most Valuable Player of the Year Awards. It also includes the Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month which are awarded during the regular season.
