The Letting Off Steam Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

That reminds me of some more valuable presentation advice.

Let's say every week one person in the class is to write a 5-7 page summary of that week's readings and then do an informal presentation (which the syllabus says should not exceed 25 minutes) on them.

What you should do for this presentation is read your entire paper verbatim. And when you get to the end of a section in your paper, you should simply stop reading and look forward quietly until asked if you're done. You must do this with every section.

If asked a question, by anyone, you must do either one of two things depending on if you know the answer. If you don't, say "I have it...in...my paper" and slowly go through the pages pretending to be looking for it until someone else answers. (Note: If you're too quick at fake looking you will have to pull the "I can't find it right now" bailout attempt.) If you do have it, you must do the same process and then read whatever overly wordy paragraph the piece of information is in. DO NOT JUST ANSWER you must repeat your brilliant wording in your paper. If you can read two or three paragraphs DO THIS.

This latter method is also a good one whenever you have a paper (for example, if everyone had to write a paper) the more of your paper that you can read aloud in response to simple questions the more you win!

Speaking of butchering simple words...
I once had a professor who (unbelievably) has a Ph.D in Mass Communications who has terrible turrible grammar.
Since she's the professor, she wanted our final reports to be how she perfectly wants it to be based on her twisted sense of grammar.
Didn't finish it since I can't stand sinking anymore to that rabbit hole of stupidity if I continued finishing that report.
Grade was good enough to pass even if no report.

My sleeping pattern is damn fucked up. There will be times I can't sleep and awake the whole day, then sleep for like 2 AM. Damn it.

I've been having knee pain for the last 2 days. Not fun. In general my knees aren't the best but just the last 2 days it's just been a nagging thing. Nothing out of the ordinary though since it's somewhat of a temperamental thing. Still, it does annoy me a bit. Goes back to me when I was younger after I sprained it a bit and I never did let it heal properly (was only a kid back then, thought it wasn't a problem, just continued running around despite my doctor telling me to take it easy for a bit).

On another unrelated note (probably gonna get dissed for it, meh just felt like randomly putting it down somewhere)...I'm trying to figure out if a friend of mine is either being really friendly or is actually interested. She enjoys talking to me whenever we see each other, and it seems like at times she'll "purposely" run into me. Some time ago when I gave her my cellphone number and she would text me completely out of the blue randomly to talk about things (from her just saying "I'M BORED", to random things going on with her, to asking how I'm doing, and other stuff). She goes on to tell me what she wants in a potential boyfriend and stuff. One last point that's a bit stretching it compared to the things I've said prior; there's also this other girl that both of us are friends with and when I'm just joking around and talking, there are times it seems in a subtle way she (the friend that I'm trying to figure out) to cut in slightly into the conversation (which I have no issue with). Maybe I'm reading too much these other actions but I'm not sure. She's a friendly person in general but I either haven't figured out if she talks/acts the same to any other guy or have not seen her do the same with another guy. I'm older than her so maybe she just sees me as an older brother kind of thing?

Girl trouble certainly isn't out of place in this thread. ;) Hope you can work it out soon...perhaps she's waiting for you to make a move? If you're interested then maybe it's time to test the waters, see if she reciprocates.

when it's the 3 of you (you and the 2 girls) pay more attention to the one that you're not interested in to make the other jealous and make her compete for you. also if you are all sitting on a couch or something, put the one you are interested in right next to you and then the other furthest away so you will have to bend over the one you're interested in to talk to the other.

Get at her before you are friend zoned. She may like you a bit. Getting a text message saying she is bored could mean anything. Like she didn't have anything better to do or she was making that excuse to contact you without coming off too interested.

So yeah, end your confusion, make a move, ask her out, invite her over, do it up.

Yeah, I love playing it with my mates. I play on hard gravel floor and as I went for the layup, totally slipped and crashed my knee on it. But, still in style, I got the basket :D

Man, 3 a.m. in the morning and why am I up? NBA basketball. Actually I love watching Playoffs - and in a way you get used to getting up in the night, but sometimes it's a torture when the alarm clock rings just at the best time to sleep.

At least Dallas had a good start.

We lost our team, but Seattle (well, really the whole pacific region) is the best place for watching NBA basketball on TV. 4-11 PM essentially

I went through that about a month ago, due to a fault with the phone line. Not a lot of fun, but it makes you appreciate the convenience of being able to get online whenever you need to when it's working properly.

+1

and during the regular season, the 7:30 "late games" usually end promptly around 10.
