Kidd prevails in point guard dual as Mavs take down Bulls in OT
Image
D-Rose still has a lot to learn from the 38 year old Kidd

Chicago, IL - Just like the last time they met, Derrick Rose did everything he could against the 38 year old, hall of fame bound point guard Jason Kidd.

Again, it wasn't enough.

Kidd had 17 points, 15 assists and 4 rebounds to thwart Rose's efforts as the Dallas Mavericks take a 103-96 victory in overtime against the Bulls at United Center and sweep the season series against Chicago.

Derrick Rose was just a rebound shy of a triple double as he finished with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists, but he also had 6 turnovers as a result of great defense played by Kidd and the Mavericks.

Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 22 points and 8 rebounds while Caron Butler and Shawn Marion dropped in 19 points apiece. Center Marc Gasol was the last Maverick in double figures as he notched a double double of 11 points and 14 rebounds along with 4 blocks.

The game looked like it was going to go in Chicago's favor after the Bulls' third quarter run, but Kidd made a 30+ foot three pointer and swung the momentum back in Dallas' favour.

"and they said he couldn't shoot when he came into the league" said Bulls head coach Byron Scott, who coached Kidd for four seasons in New Jersey and took them to consecutive finals appearances "He gets better every single day, I won't be surprised if he plays until he's 40 and still produces at a high level"

For the Bulls, Carlos Boozer had 18 points and 7 rebounds to aid Rose, but he was just 8 for 18 from the field as Gasol manned the middle and played great defense to shut him down.

All Star Center Joakim Noah had 11 points and 14 rebounds along with 3 blocks while Kyle Korver dropped 11 points from off the bench, but Korver was just 4 for 11 from the field and 0-3 from downtown, an area that fell cold for Chicago today.

It was also the debut of Sasha Vujacic, who was acquired by Chicago prior to the All-Star Weekend. Vujacic recorded 6 points and 3 assists in 21 minutes off the bench and hit 3 of his 9 shot attempts. However, like Korver, Vujacic failed to convert a three ball.

"The shots were there, but they just didn't go down for them" said Boozer "They did a good job getting the looks, it'll go down next time"

This loss snaps Chicago's three game winning streak accumulated before the All Star break, they are now 35-18 for the season and remains at the third spot in the Eastern Conference standings while the Mavericks improve to 36-17 and also retains their spot at fifth in the West.

Re: [35-18]Road to Glory II - Sasha Debuts in OT Thriller!!

Postby hova- on Sun Jan 30, 2011 7:33 pm

Tough loss, Kidd was awesome. Sasha needs to shoot more threes - this really reminds me of when I got my PS3 and NBA 2k8.

Playing live all the time, it was just wicked to see how good 2k8 was, I loved that time.

Back on topic: I had a Bulls association at that time and also brought in Sasha. His release was so fluid, best release of all players apart from Gordon. I love to shoot threes with him.

Now I end my debauch of the good old 2k8 days ;)

Anyone who ever played against me when I had Sasha on the Lakers in 2K11 can agree that he is the best video game player ever. Everyone knows my love of D Fish but I often opt to use Sasha over Fisher, Shannon and Steve. Sasha is the man (Y)

Dallas is unstoppable for me everytime, especially Kidd :?
I'm still trying to learn Sasha's shot release though

I'll dispute that and say Jordan is still the best, I hardly ever miss a shot with his release

Rose, Bulls spoil Mardi Gras party in New Orleans at the buzzer

Image
Derrick Rose adds another game winner to his already budding resume

New Orleans, LA - Chris Paul, and Deron Williams.

These two names have always been in the heated discussion for the best point guard in the NBA today.

Now, you've got to enter a new name into the conversation - Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls.

After a terrific display of basketball from both Paul and Rose, the Chi-town youngster emerged victorious as he shook free of Paul's defense and knocked down the game winning jumper at the buzzer to give the Chicago Bulls a 106-105 victory over Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets.

Rose was named player of the game after his 29 points, 11 assists and 3 steals performance that got them the win over the league's best team that was on-pace to catch the 72 win Chicago Bulls of Michael Jordan.

That's probably not going to happen now, as the Hornets lose their first consecutive games of this 2011-12 season and now officially hits double digits in losses.

"We weren't chasing (the record) it anyways, our goal is June" said Paul after the game "but give them props, they played a great game today"

Paul wasn't too shabby himself, as he racked up a game high 19 assists along with 16 points and 4 steals in the losing effort. He had 8 assists in the first quarter alone and had a double double by half time.

Too bad it wasn't enough to hold of Chicago as both teams went back and forth all game long. When one team looks like they will run away with the game, the other team would come roaring back.

Former Bull Ben Gordon shook off a bad start by ending the game with 25 points, leading the Hornets in scoring while David West added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the losing effort.

However, the differences in bench contribution proved to be the difference in the game.

Kyle Korver of the Bulls came off the bench to score 16 points in his 16 minutes of play, and made a pair of clutch three pointers that allowed the Bulls, and Rose in particular, to pull off the victory.

"That's just what he does" Rose stated "He's one of the best shooters in the game for a reason, he makes shots"

Shaquille O'Neal also gave Chicago one of his bigger performances of the season thus far, going 5 for 9 from the field in 13 minutes to rack up 12 points and 8 boards.

Sasha Vujacic scored 9 points against his old team. While center Joakim Noah had a game high 15 rebounds along with 10 points and 2 blocks.

With their jumpers not going too well early in the game, Chicago attacked the paint constantly, as evident from the 50-36 points in the paint edge they had over the Hornets. Behind Noah and O'Neal, Chicago racked up 14 offensive rebounds, a key to victory as noted by head coach Byron Scott.

"Those offensive boards allowed our team to stay in the game" said Scott "Then of course, Derrick won it for us"

Chicago is now 37-19 for the season and is 1 1/2 games behind the Washington Wizards for the second seed in the Eastern Conference, they will now travel to Cleveland to conclude their 4 game road trip.

Notes: The Hornets wore their multi-colored Mardi Gras alternate uniforms to celebrate the annual celebration in New Orleans....At 47-10, the Hornets will need to win all of their remaining 25 games to match the all time win record of 72-10....The season series is now tied at 1-1 between the two teams....

I'm willing to bet you're happy to crush New Orlean's hopes of 72+ wins. :) That's a nice game-winner by Rose though. (Y) Surprised Chris Paul didn't play better defense than that.

They still can go on another 25 game winning streak (like they did starting the season....) and match the 72...but haha yes, quite happy cause it's also revenge for the 10 point loss earlier in the season (Y)
I was really surprised they didn't pull better coverage on Rose like they did the whole game, maybe it's cause I've been dishing it to open shooters whenever they collapse on me and they just decided to play me straight up

I am surprised to see them all 99 too, but probably it's cause of Paul

and yes... the young "MJ" isn't exactly getting the kinda minutes his dad used to get

Shaq joins 30,000 club
February 25th, 2012

Image
Shaquille O'Neal of the Chicago Bulls became only the sixth player in NBA history to
reach 30,000 career points in Chicago's 99-94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.

The milestone came with 6:24 left in the forth quarter when O'Neal slammed in a missed shot
by Luol Deng.

Currently playing in his 20th NBA season, the 39 year old center has now exactly 30,000 points for
his career and trails only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Michael Jordan (32,292),
Wilt Chamberlian (31,419), and Kobe Bryant (30,247) on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

Bryant is the only active player out of those 5 mentioned above while Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia 76ers
is next on the list with 28,344 points.

For his career, O'Neal has averages of 22.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.2 blocks per game in
1,321 games played (1,231 starts). He is averaging 8.4 points and 5.6 rebounds this season for the
Chicago Bulls.

A former NBA MVP, five time NBA Champion, three time Finals MVP, 15 time All-Star,
former rookie of the year (1993) and an eight time All-NBA First team selection, Shaq looks to be a lock
for the Basketball Hall of Fame when his career finally comes to an end.
