Lockout Averted In Time For Free Agency, Changes To Be Made
Regular season to be shortened to 58 games

July 6, 2011 - In a surprising outcome, the players and owners have come to an agreement. There will be no lockout.

In a nutshell, the owners lost. The salary cap was not changed and a hard cap was not imposed. The new collective bargaining agreement, good until 2017, is very similar to the one in place. "We are very happy about how this worked out", said Chris Paul, newly instated president of the NBA Players Union.

You can expect more heckling like this now that the players have come out on top.

In addition, the regular season will be cut down to 58 games. "The 82 game seasons took a toll on us. The shorter seasons should be better both for us, as well as the fans, as there will be less injuries and the level of play will be higher. Clippers' owner Donald Sterling was quoted as saying "this is *expletive* bull*expletive*!" The playoffs will retain their 7-7-7-7 format. In addition to the shortened regular season however, pre-season will now consist of seven games with five minute quarters. "We saw what happened with Blake Griffin in 2009 and this will leave players rested for the season", says NBA rep Tim Frank.

Opening night will be on November 2nd. Chime in with your thoughts!

I actually think the NBA would benefit from 58 game seasons. I just wish you had changed playoff format to 5-5-7-7 or something along those lines since first 2 rounds don't mean anything.

I'm liking how you have this one rolling. Hope you keep motivated to keep it going (Y)

Thanks X. Starting this in the 11-12 season was a hard decision that I think/hope will make this more interesting, and the team is a lot of fun. Hopefully I can find a good way to recap games.

Opted to keep the playoffs at 7-7-7-7 because though 2K11 improved a lot in this regard, the game is still a bit upset-prone for my tastes. It was pretty cool in your Bobcats one when the Knicks won the title with a losing record though.

I can't believe you remembered that. I don't remember anybody who won the titles in that one

Shorter season is a good decision. As X said, it would also be the right choice for the real NBA. About the Playoff format: I will go with 5-7-7-7 like it had been before, because the first round is not all too exciting usually. (it also would give my Sonics a chance to prevail by three lucky wins instead of four).

And here is a brilliant article by the 7th pick in the draft, William Sit! (Yes, you may make articles if you wish, and if they are good, get points)

Sit wrote:Image

Meet William Sit

Image “And with the seventh pick of the NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select William Sit from Australia.”

There was a tinge of uncertainty in David Stern’s voice. Australian rookie William Sit was even more confused when the camera came in on his face and that self-created faux hawk. He got up and high fived and hugged each of his posse before walking up to meet the commissioner.

The pro-Knicks crowd were booing as they watched Sit jump up on stage. It was always going to be a long shot for them to get him at pick 19 but there were a lot of Knicks faithful hoping and wishing. Earlier in the week Sit was the one who got his handlers to send out a memo to those teams interested in him that he refused to be pigeon holed as a point guard.

His agent even sent a statement to the press.

William Sit would like to announce that he is a shooting guard first and does not consider himself to be a point guard. This is a warning to teams that want to pick him to play a playmakers role. Sit’s skills are all-offensive and he requests an opportunity to play for a terrible offensive team so that he can utilise his abilities to the best interests of all parties and of course – the worst interests of all opposition teams.

The Portland Trailblazers were very interested in Sit leading up to the Draft and there were murmurs that the Philadelphia 76ers were in the same boat after Sit tried out for them twice. However, both teams back off verbal promises to snap up sit after 2-guard-gate. That set up the Knicks in a good position as they were the only team crazy enough to like the outspoken Sit and had a genuine need for a scoring guard.

Then the Wizards swooped in, surprising the commissioner, Sit and the rest of the league. Stern He was surprised to see the Asian-Australian with the bad hairdo and a tendency for outlandish comments through the media being drafted so high.

Sit’s surprise at his draft position and destination was evident as he shook Stern’s hand and you could make out that he said to him, “I did not expect this.” Stern just politely nodded and smiled. When Sit did an interview off the stage, he was a little bit more composed and back to his usual self.

“This is a surprise,” Sit stated, “Not to say it is an unpleasant one but it is still a surprise.”

Sit’s drafting makes sense because Young is, as Sit alluded to, expected to leave Washington in a bid to play for another team. Young has been linked to the Clippers and it is understood a move back to the West Coast is in his plans.

Sit wasn’t shy about listing his intentions as a new member of the Wizards, “I think that the team drafting Sit is a sign that Nick Young is not going to stay. I think it’s a great choice to draft Sit as he is better than Nick Young.” He also responded to the question of what he brought to the table, “I’m a great scorer and I’m also a lock down defender.”

When Sit was asked about why he referred to himself in the third person, he replied, “This is how a superstar talks.”
