NOT: Pau Gasol only had 12 points and 4 boards in this game. He is fully healed from that bruised hip injury and still he struggled. For the past 10 games Gasol only managed to get one double-double on the game loss against the New York Knicks.

Ditto
QUICK LOOK: The Los Angeles Lakers tops the West with a 31-10 win loss record but the Dallas Mavericks are not far behind with a 28-10 record. Sitting on the bottom of the West are the Sacramento Kings with a 14-23 record.
The West playoff race is also close with the 4th to 7th spot changing every game played. It still a long season to go but the Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Traiblazer and Denver Nuggets are all battling for that top four spot. With the Houston Rockets hanging on the 8th spot.
SURPRISES: The Utah Jazz currently sitting in the third spot with 25-15 record they are tied with the Mavericks as the best home team with 20-2. Although they still struggled on the road but maintain an 8-8 record.
The Memphis Grizzlies also rises in the conference and ranks fifth in the conference. Their great teamwork is the main reason of their success as six different players averaged double figures in scoring.
DISAPPOINTMENTS: The biggest disappointments this season are the San Antonio Spurs, if the playoffs start now their not going to be a part of it. Currently ranks 9th with a 19-21 record, the starters playing limited minutes is not really helping the team. Although with this veteran group they still have time to make a run for a playoff spot.
The Denver Nuggets are also struggling this season although they sit in the 7th spot with a 20-18 record. The Carmelo Anthony drama greatly affects the team and with the trade deadline coming we can expect a trade coming soon.
The same is happening with the New Orleans Hornets they have the third worst record in the West behind the Clippers and the Kings. To make matter worst the team’s best player Chris Paul wanted to be traded.
MID SEASON AWARDS
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers takes this spot. Currently leads the league in points per game with 29.4 and shooting .489% from the field. He also averaged 6.2 RPG and leads the team with a 4.6 APG. Also the Lakers are the best team on the league as of now. Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Durant are runner ups for having a great season.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Blake Griffin of the LA Clippers. After an inconsistent first month Griffin finds the right rhythm. He averages 18 PPG and 11.3 RPG. If you also remove Griffin off the team maybe the Clippers wouldn’t win 15 games. Runner up is Wesley Johnson
DEFENSIVE PLAYER: Andrei Kirilenko is back. One of the factors that Jazz is doing so great this season is his defensive plays. Averaging 2.3 SPG and 1.5 BPG, he also grabs 6.0 boards a game and scoring in double digits with 11.6 a game. Even rumors of him being traded it is unlikely to happen. Runner up is Tyson Chandler
MOST IMPROVE: Dorell Wright of the Golden State Warriors. He only averages 7.1 PPG last season with the Miami Heat but now he almost doubles it with 13.3 PPG. He also doubles his rebounding average with 6.3 per game. Runner up is Michael Beasley
SIXTHMAN: Mehmet Okur. Another factor of the Jazz success is him accepting his current role. With Al Jefferson as the starting center still Okur finds way to contribute off the bench. Averaging 10.1 PPG and 6.1 RPG in only 22 minutes of playing time. Runner up is Lamar Odom
COACH OF THE YEAR: Jerry Sloan deserves this one. Without Carlos Boozer he still found ways for the Jazz compete in a high level. He also is the reason for Allen Iverson playing a great season and not affecting the team’s chemistry.
QUICK LOOK: Unlike the West the race to the top in the Eastern Conference is pretty close. The Chicago Bulls stands at the top with a 25-14 record. The Miami Heat and Orlando Magic are a game behind while the Boston Celtics sits at the fourth spot.
At the bottom of the standings lies the Detroit Pistons who recently fired John Kuester as a headcoach. The Washington Wizard had the second worst record while the Toronto Raptors is on third.
SURPRISES: The Chicago Bulls were expected to be a better team than last season after signing Carlos Boozer but not the top team on the East. The Bulls are the second most defensive team in the league and one the best home team. But they are three games behind the .500 mark when playing on the road.
The Indiana Pacers also is one of the top defensive team on the league. Roy Hibbert provides them the inside defense while Danny Granger and Darren Collison provides steady offense. They currently rank fifth in the East with a 21-16 record.
DISAPPOINTMENTS: The New York Knicks looks good when they signed Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton but they still don’t know how to win games. They have a 16-24 record and teams like the New Jersey Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers are on top of them and trying to secure a playoff spot.
Atlanta Hawks couldn’t find their winning touch, currently seventh in the East with a 22-19 record. Joe Johnson is struggling and looks like that huge contract he just signed went for nothing.
MID SEASON AWARDS
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Derrick Rose singlehandedly carried the Bulls on top of the East. He averaged 29.0 PPG, 8.6 APG, 1.5 SPG and 4.9 RPG. He is having the best season so far in his young career, his right there when talking about the top 5 players around the league. Runner up Lebron James
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: John Wall is truly a great player which the Wizards can build on. He is averaging 20.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 6.8 APG and 2.6 SPG. One of the leaders in steals category, the Wizards might be losing right now but they have a great future waiting for them. Runner up Evan Turner
DEFENSIVE PLAYER: Josh Smith is averaging double-double the first time in his career. 17.0 PPG and 11.0 RPG his also doing great defensively with 1.6 SPG and 1.8 BPG. If he is not playing with the Hawks , the team might not be playing for a playoff spot. Runner up Ben Wallace
MOST IMPROVE: Derrick Rose again, last year averaged 20.8 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 6.0 APG, 0.7 SPG compare to this year. Runner up Darren Collison
SIXTHMAN: Jameer Nelson accepts the sixth man role. With Gilbert Arenas starting, Nelson provides the Magic steady leader off the bench and a good scorer too. Averaging 10.5 PPG and 3.3 APG not bad considering he only plays 20 minutes per game. Runner up T.J Ford
COACH OF THE YEAR: Tom Thibodeau on his first year as a headcoach has done a very good job. He is the reason for the Bulls great defense and for some reason he made Rose and Carlos Boozer click on offense. Runner up Doc Rivers
