New League Announced
July 19th, 2011

Image

NEW YORK - Two days after the Chicago Bulls were crowned the NBA champions; Commissioner David Stern announced the cancellation of the 2011-2012 NBA season. Now just a month into the lockout, it is reported that NBA players Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have come together to create their own league played on the streets. Oklahoma City Thunder teammates Durant and Westbrook, along with 2010 FIBA World Champion teammate Rose, announced their new league titled the "Blacktop Basketball Association". Also a part of developing the league will be recently retired NBA player Shaquille O’Neal, who was named League Commissioner.

The league will consist of 16 teams, 64 players and will be enforced with 4-on-4 play. The 64 players, who will only consist of guys from either the 2007 NBA Draft or 2008 NBA Draft, will be selected through a draft. The draft will be constructed out of 4 rounds, 16 selections each round. Round 1 will be determined by Shaquille O'Neal, who will select his top 16 players. The 16 players chosen will determine the location of where his team will be based out of, preferably by their hometown. The player will then become the team's captain and will choose the rest of their team's picks in the draft. Once the draft is over scheduling will begin and teams will be split up into 2 conferences, 4 divisions. If injuries are to occur during the season, teams can sign players who were not chosen in the draft.

“Of course we have no knowledge of how long this lockout will last, but for now we are just creating a league where players can continue competing at a high level,” exclaimed Shaquille O’Neal. “We are definitely looking at the possibility of bringing in other players from different drafts classes if we are able to last a whole season. If the lockout does indeed continue over a year, then we may look at having our own rookie draft made up of players from the 2009 draft.”

Something like this in real life isn't quite far off as FIBA has been experimenting 3 on 3 games in their comps.

Good luck with this D (Y)

The power forwards spot is the weakest in the draft , by far.

Love , Ibaka , Landry and Davis are in mi opinion the only really god PF's in the draft.

On shooting guard you have Mayo , Gordon , Young , Lee , Afflalo and over-rated Fernandez

Thompson is only solid , Splitter isn'treally that good , Speights is becoming a good player this year , Hickson is absolutely terrible this season.

The thing is though this is 4 on 4. Small Forwards will play the 2 or 3, depending on what the team's style will be. Some may roll with double Small Forwards, who knows?
