TEAM REPORTS

The Los Angeles Lakers have shown that they are still the best team in the league. The defending champ currently sits on the top with the best record.

The Lakers started the month of December with a win against the Houston Rockets, where Kobe Bryant exploded for 44 points. Bryant had another two 40+ point games against the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers; he was really on fire this month and averaged 29.3 points per game on 50.2% shooting. Even though Bryant had these high scoring games he did averaged 5.3 assists per game this month.

Pau Gasol also is having a great season so far but he suffered an injury in the middle of the month. Good thing Lamar Odom and the others have step up their game to continue the Lakers dominance.

The highlight of this month is their game against the Heat on Christmas day, the Lakers managed to win that after a couple of blow out loss against the Bulls, Clippers and Raptors. After the win against the Heat the team went on a 5 games winning streak, the team also welcome back starting center Andrew Bynum. With Bynum’s return the Lakers defense has greatly improved and they end the year of 2010 with a positive note.

Did you start that while I had no Inet? I really like your layouts. This one will be interesting in the Playoffs. I hope you will face some good old opponents like the Suns or the Cs in the Finals. Keep it up.

hova-, Yes I did, the Suns are struggling in this league in the West only Dallas and the Lakers are dominating you will see it in the next post.
Thierry •, More offense? I think 8.5 is good enough for Artest he is a defensive player.
mandich, Nope, Fisher has more minutes too. But I'm more comfortable on using Blake so that maybe the reason for the better stats.

I'd also like to see Artest averaging in double figures. Kobe can give 5ppg to Artest :P

Just because Artest is playing shite IRL offensively doesn't mean it has to be the case here

If you're more comfortable using Blake why don't you reduce his minutes? Don't drop him to the bench, just even out the minutes a little more. Nice recap by the way, 2 months down.

STORIES AROUND THE LEAGUE

Image

Pesky Bulls
With Derek Rose having a MVP caliber season the Bulls sees themselves as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. But it is not only because of Rose, the Bulls defense has greatly improved. The team is second in the league in points allowed per game with 91.7. There is no doubt that Tom Thibodeau is one of the factor for their improved defense and if this continue he will be one of the candidates for coach of the year award.

New Team Rising
The San Antonio Spurs are falling while the Memphis Grizzlies rises, when the two met the Grizzlies won the game and that started to a 5 games winning streak and still counting. In those games Rudy Gay averaged 26.4 PPG and 9.0 RPG. Zach Randolph is still a walking double-double with 17.6 PPG and 10.7 RPG this season. The Grizzlies are hoping they can reach the playoffs since the Pau Gasol era.

More Problems for the Knicks
The New York Knicks so far is a disappointment, acquiring Raymond Felton and Amare Stoudemire hopes are high for this team. But it seems that they can’t play with each other, defense and rebounding are their main problem. Wilson Chandler is the best rebounder in the team with 7.9 RPG but sadly he will be out for the rest of the season due to broken patella.

Melo Situation
With the year ending Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets are still finding a way for them to solve the problem. Anthony has no desire to sign a contract extension with the team and he is playing not that good compare to last season, that performance affected the team as they are currently struggling to win games. It was rumored that Melo will be going to the New Jersey Nets or the New York Knicks.

December Reports: Part Three

Postby dare on Wed Jan 19, 2011 12:00 pm

R2MVP

1. Kobe Bryant, SG, LA Lakers (27-6)
30.3 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 4.3 APG, 1.7 SPG, .500 FG%, .333 3P%, .889 FT%, 34.8 MPG

Last Month: N/A

His on a mission, he is showing how hungry he is for that sixth ring. He is almost carrying the team alone with Pau Gasol playing with an injury. He leads the league in scoring and doing it efficiently, most important of all the team is winning and currently on top of the league.

2. Lebron James, SF, Miami Heat (22-12)
24.7 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 6.6 APG, 2.1 SPG, .489 FG%, .275 3P%, .769 FT%, 38.8 MPG

Last Month: N/A

We all expect that Lebron’s number is going down with him playing besides Wade and Bosh but he still show that he is the man in any team whether he have great players around him or not. He leads the Heat team in score, rebounds, assists and steals per game.

3. Dirk Nowitzki, PF, Dallas Maverick (25-6)
26.8 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 0.8 APG, 1.3 SPG, .501 FG%, .346 3P%, .925 FT%, 34.5 MPG

Last Month: N/A

He would have been on no.2 spot but he is playing very poorly on the last 5 games, he only averaged 21.2 PPG and 6.7 RPG in those 5 games including a 6 points and one rebound loss against the Spurs. But he is also the reason why the Mavericks are only 1 game behind the Lakers.

4. Derrick Rose, PG, Chicago Bulls (20-11)
29.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 8.9 APG, 1.6 SPG, 1.0 BPG, .527 FG%, .387 3P%, .813 FT%, 39.7 MPG

Last Month: N/A

Bulls’ fans might get angry to see Rose on this spot. The thing is Rose only started to play well on the month of December but if he continues his stellar plays then it is not impossible to see another guy in a Bulls uniform to take the MVP since you know who.

5. Brandon Roy, SG, Portland Traiblazers (18-15)
27.7 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 5.0 APG, 1.5 SPG, .518 FG%, .400 3P%, .812 FT%, 36.9 MPG

Last Month: N/A

Well the Blazers are on a two games losing streak but during their six games winning streak Roy averaged 32.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 6.3 APG. He also scored 30 and 32 in the last two losses. So in the last 8 games Roy is playing great basketball with a handicap. Yes he is playing with a sore knee and a bruised hip.

On the bubble: Kevin Durant, SF Oklahoma City Thunder | Deron Williams, PG Utah Jazz | Dwight Howard, C Orlando Magic | Dwayne Wade, SG Miami Heat | Josh Smith, SF Atlanta Hawks

Rookie Rankings

1. John Wall, PG, Washington Wizards
20.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 6.8 APG, 2.5 SPG, 0.3 BPG, .472 FG%, .313 3P%, .725 FT%, 39.2 MPG

Last Month: N/A | (Drafted 1 by Washington)

Really becomes the star and the leader of the Wizards after the Arenas trade. Leads all rookies in score, assists and steals. Hopefully the Wizards can build a great team around him.

2. Blake Griffin, PF, LA Clippers
13.1 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.1 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.3 BPG, .476 FG%, .000 3P%, .613 FT%, 33.5 MPG

Last Month: N/A | (Drafted 1 by Clippers 2009 draft)

Struggled early in the season and a bit inconsistent but for the past six games he averaged 22.1 PPG and 13.3 RPG. When he scored at least 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds the Clippers are 12-0, coincidentally the Clippers only have 12 wins so far.

3. Wesley Johnson, SF, Minnesota Timberwolves
11.7 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.2 BPG, .422 FG%, .304 3P%, .564 FT%, 35.9 MPG

Last Month: N/A | (Drafted 4 by Minnesota)

One of the most all around players in the league, Johnson leads all rookies in blocked shots. But he needs to shake of the rust on those freebies.

4. Evan Turner, SG, Philadelphia 76ers
8.1 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.7 BPG, .434 FG%, .175 3P%, .759 FT%, 21.7 MPG

Last Month: N/A | (Drafted 2 by Philadelphia)

So far having a great job as the 76ers sixth man, he still finding what he can do as a player. But for a player that can play three different positions it might not be not much of a problem.

5. Al-Farouq Aminu, PG, Washington Wizards
7.2 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.9 BPG, .438 FG%, .393 3P%, .725 FT%, 31.7 MPG

Last Month: N/A | (Drafted 8 by Clippers)

Starting besides Griffin, he provides the Clippers with great energy. The numbers might now show it but he is doing a great job defensively as a rookie.

Heat-Lakers notebook
By: NBA.com
Posted January 2,2011

THE FACTS: The Lakers started the new year right with a dominating performance against the Memphis Grizzlies. Kobe Bryant led the way with 24 points, 3 boards and 3 assists. Pau Gasol outplayed his brother in this game and finished with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Lamar Odom added 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Zach Randolph almost had a double-double with 23 points and 9 boards, O.J Mayo added 22 points but the rest of the team did not contribute much. Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay were non factors in this game as the Memphis ended their 6 games winnings streak.

TURNING POINT: The Lakers strong first quarter really gave them that edge. They outscored the Grizzlies 27-12 then they outscored them again 27-16 in the third quarter and that sealed the deal.

HOT: Ron Artest only scored 6 points but his great defense really sticks out and that is a big part of their dominating win.

NOT: Rudy Gay struggled through out the entire game because of Artest defense. He shot 1-15 from the field and only score 6 points. Also Shannon Brown did not hit any shot he goes 0-8 in this and 6-32 in the last three games.

NOTABLE: Brown was criticized by Phil Jackson for not playing good in the last couple of games. His contract might be bugging him and he is planning to test the market this summer.

Derek Fisher out for the rest of the season

Image

Derek Fisher season is over, as he suffered a torn MCL in the third quarter against the New York Knicks. It happened when he goes for a layup and he loses his balance and landed awkwardly.

“Were gonna miss him. He was the heart and soul of this team, everybody knows that.” Kobe Bryant said. Bryant is the closest to Fisher as they entered the league at the same time. He and Ron Artest helped Fisher to go to the locker room. The Lakers fans clapped their hands as one of the most important player in the purple and gold uniform leaves the court.
