The Letting Off Steam Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

That one was you shadow

As for the present receiving thread, I know there will be one, I was only being facetious. Given the festive season I'd like to see more people follow Jao's lead & say what they gave rather than what they received.

Jao, you'll notice my post two years back was more about what I gave than what I received

Merry Xmas all :P

Yep. Unfortunately I had imported a Japanese one to save a few hundred bucks since they were so expensive back then. Generally if your PS3 breaks, you pay Sony Australia $150 to repair it I believe. Wish I had of spent the extra & got a local PAL console as Sony Australia wouldn't touch it because Japanese NTSC model.

I ended up buying a new one locally with warranty & haven't had any problems to date in the two plus years that I've owned it. Fingers crossed that continues. I think early model ones are more prone to have red light issue.

As for your situation, if you've got a US console, I'd suggest contacting Sony US. I know it's out of warranty but they might have a repair option like they do in Australia.

Stupid smartphones and their weak ass batteries...I love the MyTouch 4G that I bought recently, but I can't believe how much juice that thing utilizes. I don't even use it that much, I don't send texts or anything, I have wifi/GPS disabled, but I still lose at least 10% of my battery after not even 5 min online or on the Android market.
I downloaded a task killer app to try to get rid of useless programs in the background but I' don't think it'll do the trick, so I guess I'm gonna have to recharge that thing every fucking day...

i don't know about sending it in. there's no guarantee that they can fix it. at this point, i'm taking it apart and seeing if i can fix it myself, otherwise, im calling it a loss and then opening up the disc drive to get my cod mw2 out of there.

Yep, that's more or less what I did. I didn't want to pay someone to have a look when they couldn't guarantee it. So I opened it up & had a look. A lot jammed in there but I couldn't work out problem with mine. Might've helped if I had proper electrical testing gear, but ahh well. Good luck.

yeah i don't know if my roommate has the right parts, i.e. a heat gun & thermal glue, but hey it's worth a shot. i was really bummed at 1st since ive had mine since a month after the US release date so i got a backwards compatible 20 gig but since there are much better games now than when they first launched, i don't mind not having BC especially because i don't play my ps2 games anymore. i heard they came out with a white one, i wonder if stores are selling those.

oh and more great news in my life. my dinner date i had planned tonight with this girl i knew from college was messed up since she was coming back from vegas today and then it got turned into a movie with "maybe some drinks after" into a makeshift (read:uncomfortable) double date with her sister and her bf which ended as soon as the movie did. i feel like someone just took my lunch money or something. :?

Never expect sex/hooking up, chicks can sense it and it turns them off.

i wasnt even expecting it though. i was just happy to have a girl that talks to me lol. i mean, usually a movie is accompanied by something else to allow you to get some face time and talk or whatever but we went to a 10pm showing so we got out at midnight and obviously there's nothing open then plus i tihnk her sister had work in the morning so she wanted to go home

That's why I'm not really a fan of movies for dates. No chance to chat.

Thanks Pdub. I had actually checked this thread yesterday, and that's what made me decide to download a task killing app. It does seem to keep things a bit cleaner, but it's far from ideal, since most programs keep popping back on a constant basis, that sorta defeats the purpose...

My PC completely crashed on me last night...I was listening to some music on myspace when I got an AVG warning (didn't look as usual so that was probably the virus itself), and the next thing I know I get the fucking BSOD. Haven't been able to reboot since then, I can't even access safe mode. I tried using the Windows installation DVD to do some repair but nothing will work, it just won't reboot anymore... :furious:

Wow that's fucked. The worst thing about being a tech guy (I figure you are too since you build computers) is that when something like that happens it's nearly pointless going to an "expert" because they won't have much more of an idea than you will.
