Disappointing loss, no question. Hats off indeed to the Knicks for their hot shooting but the bench was awful to begin the second quarter which went a long way in digging that huge hole they found themselves in and then to leave Rose, Noah and Deng on the bench when they had a chance to complete the comeback...baffling.
Steve Kerr praised Thibodeau for having confidence in the guys who made the comeback and I see his point but I disagree; I think in a situation like that you keep the momentum going by bringing in the starters, rested and with more talent (and it's not like they weren't doing good things while they were in the game) and let them take charge. Instead, you have Watson hitting the wall, Johnson thinking he's a star and the game slipping away. One might argue it's good for morale to let those guys know they'll have a chance to play but you know what would be even better for morale? A win, especially after the abysmal second quarter.
On the bright side, Rose's dunk was pretty awesome and the effort in the second half was admirable and what you want to see, even if the results weren't so good this time. Final score was at least respectable, even with the Knicks' hot shooting. If not for that ugly second quarter, they could have had this one. All in all, not the game I was hoping for, for the first Bulls game this season that's been televised here.
