Hornets' Win Streak Hits 22, Tied For 2nd All-Time
December 8th 2011
Aside from setting the still-ongoing record for the best start in NBA history, Chris Paul
and the New Orleans Hornets have just tied another piece of history.
Following their 110-87 victory over the Golden State Warriors, the Hornets have now won 22 straight
games, tying the 2007/08 Houston Rockets for the second longest winning streak in a single season
in NBA history.
The L.A. Lakers own the NBA's longest ever winning streak, set at 33 in the 1971-72 season.
New Orleans was once again led by Chris Paul, who finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists.
He also had plenty of help on the night, with Ben Gordon and David West scoring 21 points apiece. West
also had 10 rebounds while center Emeka Okafor added 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks in the victory.
Stephen Curry had 24 points and 9 assists in the losing effort.
The Hornets will try to go 23-0, and sole possession of the second spot, when they visit the MIami Heat
on Sunday.

to 23 games on Sunday night with a victory over the Miami Heat.
Chris Paul once again led the charge for the Hornets as he finished
with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in the victory. He
was 7 for 13 from the field and 9 for 11 from the charity stripe.
Emeka Okafor had another big night as he dropped 22 points and
12 rebounds.
Dwyane Wade led all scorers with 31 points while rookie Liam Washburn
had 9 points and 8 dimes but the Heat never recovered from a second
quarter torching by CP3 and the Hornets. They were outscored 17 to 29

December 12th 2011
Phoenix Suns forward Grant Hill has announced his plans to retire
at the conclusion of this season.
Hill (39), an 18th year veteran out of Duke University, has had success in his
NBA career despite being plagued by injuries in his early years.
Drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the 3rd overall pick in 1994, Hill won the
1995 co-rookie of the year with Jason Kidd, and was named to the All Rookie
1st team. In the following years of his career, the 6 foot 8 forward was named
to 7 All Star teams, made 4 All NBA Second teams and was named to the All-NBA
first team in 1997.
Hill was also the only three time recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship Award,
winning the honors in 2005, 2008, and 2010. Additionally, he has a gold medal won
as a member of the United States Men Basketball Team at the 1996 Olympic Games.
Over the course of his 18 year career, Hill has averages of 16.8 points, 6.4 rebounds,
4.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game over 974 career games played. He started on 952
of those contests.Hornets lose Collison for 2-4 weeks with Strained Achilles
December 13th 2011
The New Orleans Hornets were able to extend their historic winning streak
to 24 games with a 100-79 win over the Charlotte Bobcats, but it came at a heavy price.
Hornets Sixth man Darren Collison went down early in the second quarter following a
collusion with Bobcats point guard DJ Augustin and had to be helped off the floor, he
did not return and early diagnosis reveals a strained left Achilles tendon.
Collison is expected to miss at least 2 to 4 weeks.
With games against Western Conference powerhouses such as the Spurs (Wed 14th)
and the Thunder (Fri 16th) later on this week, there is a large possibility that the Hornets
could see their streak snapped.
For the season, Collison is averaging 6.7 points and 5.5 assists in 23.4 minutes per game
off the bench for the Hornets.

Yao nets first career triple double as Rockets top Heat
Miami, FL - "The Great Wall of Houston" is more than an appropriate nickname for the 7 foot 6 Yao Ming on Tuesday night.
Yao recorded his first career triple double in dominating fashion, finishing with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and a career high 10 blocks as his Houston Rockets defeated Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat, 106-96. It is the first time a player has recorded a triple double with points, rebounds and blocked shots since Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard achieved this feat back on November 12, 2008 with 30 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks.
"He was literally blocking every shot tonight" teammate Shane Battier said "When you are defending and you know you have someone like Yao behind you, it makes your job that much easier"
Yao went 10 for 19 from the field and 7 for 8 from the line in his 31 minutes of play, as he went back and forth with Miami's superstar Dwyane Wade, who led his team with a game high 29 points and 8 assists on 12 for 24 shooting.
"We tried our best but Yao just had one of those nights" said Wade "Really can't do anything about it but move on"
Michael Beasley had 24 points and 8 rebounds for Miami while Jermaine O'Neal notched a double double of 10 points and 12 rebounds despite being completely outplayed by the 7 foot 6 giant.
For the Rockets, 4 other players scored in double figures aside from Yao, with Antawn Jamison leading the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Kevin Martin and Trevor Ariza added 16 and 14 points respectively.
It was also a match-up of two top rookies, as Martti Must of the Rockets and Liam Washburn of the Heat battled it out on the court. Washburn finished with 17 points and 7 assists but the Arizona big man had the better hand, with 17 points, 8 rebounds in just 16 minutes, and also the bragging rights of the victory.
"Always fun to go against Liam" Must said following the game "Brings us back to the college days of the Arizona - Washington games"
"He's much better and certainly more likable than that Sit dude" Must added
After trailing for much of the first half, the Rockets came alive in the second. Yao recorded 6 of his 10 blocks in the 3rd quarter (He had 3 in the first half) and led the Rockets to a 8-0 run to end the period. Houston rode the momentum and never looked back.
Following the win, the Rockets now improve to 17-6 while the Heat go down to 13-9.

Durant, Thunder Snap Hornets Win Streak at 25
December 16th 2011
In dramatic fashion, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder
becomes the first team to hand the New Orleans Hornets a loss in the 2011/12
Season, ending their historic 25 game winning streak with a 100-99 victory in
Oklahoma City.
Durant was just 6 for 15 for 14 points and 8 rebounds, but hit the biggest shot of
the night, as his 18 foot jumper at the buzzer gets the friendly bounce and rolls in.
David Lee had 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Thunder squad and Russell
Westbrook added 18 points and 11 assists.
Chris Paul led the way for New Orleans with 21 points, 7 assists and 4 steals,
but his backcourt partner Ben Gordon was not having a good game offensively,
going just 3 for 11 from the field, finishing with 13 points.
"There are going to be nights like these, we just have to play better defense"
said Paul after the game "It's too bad that the streak stopped but it's just time
for us to focus on the next game now"
The Hornets are now 25-1 while OKC are 17-7.Pacers announce coaching change, fires Jim O'Brien
December 16th 2011
Following yet another loss, the Indiana Pacers have decided to
fire head coach Jim O'Brien.
The Pacers, currently 5-19, has yet to have a winning season behind O'Brien's
leadership on the sidelines in the past 4 seasons he has spent with the team.
The Pacers extended his contract back in 2009 and resigned him this season,
but apparently the patience of team president Larry Bird is waning.
O'Brien will be replaced by Darryl Monroe as the team looks to bounce back
from their terrible start to the season.
