"Shadowgrinch" Steals Victory From Sit With Rough Play
O'Greene 14, Sit 12January 29, 2011 - Though he gave up 4 inches and seven years of experience, Australian guard William Sit was the odds-on favorite to win the first annual "Human Fund™ No-Name Basketball Classic" (HFNNBC for short). However, the savvy Shad O'Greene, known as the "Shadowgrinch" had a few tricks up his sleeve.
Sit sank the shot for first possession, and looked to be on his way to an easy victory, using his superior speed to score the first five points against the slower O'Greene. The 'Grinch finally got a stop with an emphatic block, and used his size to score four straight points of his own. After that, the scoring slowed down, with the two players now having their bearings on the defensive end. Sit forced O'Greene into perimeter shots (which he airballed every single one of), while O'Greene shut down the paint.
The two players found themselves tied at 10. Sit made a long jumper to win the game, making a grandiose celebration before noticing that he had stepped on the line. Taking it in for a game-winning layup, O'Greene tackled Sit, saying the words "no fouls in street ball". O'Greene made a pair of inside shots to take the lead, before Sit stripped him of the ball, and sank a game-tying layup. The 'Grinch then blocked another Sit shot, then used his size to will his way into the paint, scoring a pair of easy baskets to claim a 14-12 victory.
Sit had some choice words for his opponent after the game. "He can't be pulling that *expletive* during real games. Guy has no class, tackling me to the ground. I don't know if they have rules or even real basketballs in the Phillippines, but if some team is dumb enough to draft him, they will be getting a poor man's Renaldo Balkman." O'Greene received his money, in cash from Sit, pocketing it, and promising that he would donate it as soon as he got home, with a wink.![]()

DeRozan Wins Scoring Duel, Kobe Wins Game![]()
Barkley on Bargs: "That's not turrible." | Looks like Ron Ron's off his meds again...
January 24, 2011 - We lost to the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers. SHOCKER. But I guess you win some, you lose some. With the Raptors, you win some, lose more. Enough doom and gloom though, this was actually a decent game to watch.
Things started off surprisingly well. Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both picked up 2 fouls early on, and sat out the rest of the first. This was our golden opportunity to build a lead against the Lakers. We finished the quarter up 1. Kobe and Pau returned in the second, and with them came the defensive intensity. We fell down by 10 at the half, after a 14 point second quarter.
DeMar DeRozan caught fire in the second half, with him trading baskets with Kobe Bryant. DeRozan would finish with 32 points to Kobe's 26. Unfortunately, we could not buy a stop in the fourth. A late trey by Ron Artest sealed the deal as the Lakers cruised to a 110-97 victory, giving them some breathing room for third place in the West. Meanwhile, we fall to 19-26. Despite the loss, it was great seeing DeRozan play like a star, and Bargnani playing like... a decent starting PF.

Brand, Louis Williams Headed To Milwaukee For Redd
Analysis by Ken Chalmers.January 28, 2011 - The first blockbuster of the mid-season trade period has happened. The struggling Bucks have sent expiring contract and former all-star Michael Redd to the rebuilding Philadelphia 76ers for overpaid has-been PF Elton Brand and young combo guard Louis Williams.
The Bucks, 23-20 have had a decent, but disappointing season. Adding Corey Maggette and Drew Gooden among others to a 46 win team has not vaulted them into contender status. Rather than settle for mediocrity, Bucks GM John Hammond converted expiring Michael Redd into a (probably) starting caliber PF in Brand, and filled the void left by Luke Ridnour's departure with Williams. The Bucks, at least on paper, become a better team. However, the long-term contract of Brand, which runs for three more years at 8-figures is a tough pill to swallow.
This move is purely cap-related for the 15-30 Sixers. Michael Redd is expected to be waived, and Brand's mammoth contract comes off the books. The loss of Williams leaves Jrue Holiday as their sole option at the point guard position. Expect the team to sign a D-Leaguer and punt the rest of the season. While this move looks very bad for Philly in the short-run, they have actually made quite the coup, undoing their big mistake of Summer 2008. Don't be shocked to see a resurgent season from the Sixers before the 2012 Apocalypse.
