NEW YORK -- Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, winner of the 2010-11 Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors, and guard Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers headline the NBA All-Defensive First Team, the NBA announced today. By totaling 55 points overall, including 27 First Team votes, Howard edged Bryant (53 points overall and 24 First Team votes) as the leading vote-getter.
Also selected to the All-Defensive First Team are forward Gerald Wallace of the Charlotte Bobcats (47 points), New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul (36 points) and San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan (35 points).
Howard led the league in rebounds (14.1 rpg) and blocks (3.4 bpg), and is only the fifth player to lead the league in both categories in the same season (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, L.A. Lakers, 1975-76; Bill Walton, Portland 1976-77; Hakeem Olajuwon, Houston, 1989-90; Ben Wallace, Detroit, 2001-02). He accomplished this feat for the third consecutive season.
The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of last season's Defensive Player of the year, Josh Smith of the Chicago Bulls, guards Dwyane Wade of the Chicago Bulls and Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, forward Lebron James of the Sacramento Kings, as well as center of the Detroit Pistons Ben Wallace.
The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.

Allen, Rondo powers Celtics past Bulls in Game 7
Chicago, IL - After yet another gruelling series between these two franchises, the outcome has appeared.
It was the same as last time.
Behind the efforts of Ray Allen and a brilliant game from Rajon Rondo, the Boston Celtics eliminate the Chicago Bulls in an epic game 7 showdown, 100-90.
Just so you know, the Celtics won by 10 in their previous game 7 matchup, 109-99.
"I don't believe in curses or fate or nothing like that." said Derrick Rose "We just didn't play good enough to win, it's disappointing"
Following a mediocre 16 point performance in their game 6 loss, Ray Allen bounced back and caught fire offensively. He scored 14 of the Celtics 20 first quarter points and proceeded to finish the game with a game high 34 points on 11 for 25 shooting. Allen was also 5 for 10 from three and 7 for 8 from the free throw line in his 33 minutes of play.
"It's a do or die game" said Allen "I ain't going to let my team down"
Speaking of redemption games, Rajon Rondo also bounced back from a 1 for 9 game 6 performance by dropping 23 points on 9 for 11 shooting from the field, by far his most efficient and best game offensively in this series. He also had 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the win.
"Coach told me to be aggresive and attack" said Rondo "So thats what i did and the shots were falling for me, what can I say"
Paul Pierce added 17 points while Kevin Garnett posted a 13 point, 14 rebound double double in the series winning victory.
For the Bulls, Dwyane Wade finally had an efficient night on the offensive end, going for a team-high 25 points on 10 for 20 shooting from the field. Joakim Noah had another big effort on the glass as he finished with a game high 16 boards alongside his 11 points.
Reserve center Brad Miller also chipped in with a double double while Anthony Morrow had 12 points in 8 minutes of play.
However, the rest of the Bulls struggled.
Derrick Rose was 7 for 17 from the field in his 18 point, 9 assist effort, Josh Smith was outright terrible as he went 1 for 9 for 5 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.
Kyle Korver struggled again with his outside shot, connecting on just 1 of 5 from three, and it was in this crucial game that the rookie Evan Turner turned into a brick layer.
Turner had 4 points on 2 for 7 shooting in 13 minutes off the bench and shot very questionable shots.
"I suspect the pressure was getting to him a bit" said coach Byron Scott "He is a rookie afterall"
The Celtics now move on to the Eastern Conference Finals as they will face off against Dwight Howard and his Orlando Magic squad.
