Rondo's triple double not enough as Bulls even series
Boston, MA - Rising Celtic star Rajon Rondo had a statline of 14 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists for his 6th career playoff triple double.
Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly enough to defeat the gritty Bulls.
With Dwyane Wade somewhat making a bounceback from his struggles in game 3 and scoring a game high 28 points, the Chicago Bulls managed to take a 112-99 game 4 victory to tie the series up at 2 games apiece.
Wade went 9 for 21 from the field, 1 for 3 from beyond the arc and 9 for 10 from the free throw line. He also added 4 steals.
"I had a real bad break in game 3" said Wade "So I made sure it won't happen again tonight"
Derrick Rose had another solid outing, finishing with 26 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds on 7 for 21 shooting. He was a perfect 12 for 12 from the charity stripe as the entire Bulls team redeemed themselves at the line, making a total of 30 out of 32 attempts whereas in game 3, the team connected on just 15 of their 25 attempts.
"After the game 3 fiasco at the line, we went back and paid more attention to it" said Byron Scott "I'm glad the guys made the effort and we were able to knock those freebies down tonight"
The game also marked the return of Bulls rookie Evan Turner, who quickly found his groove and knocked down 4 of his 8 field goal attempts, finishing with 11 points off the Chicago bench.
Additionally, Chicago big men Joakim Noah, Josh Smith and Brad Miller all recorded double-doubles as the Bulls once again held the rebounding edge.
"They outworked us again there" said Celtics forward Kevin Garnett "We gotta work harder there"
"You know something's wrong when your point guard has the most rebounds from your team" Garnett added
Paul Pierce led the way for the Cs once again, finishing with 23 points while Ray Allen added 20 of his own, including 4 for 7 from three. However, Kevin Garnett struggled offensively as a result of the
defensive efforts of Bulls forward Josh Smith, and was held to just 10 points and 9 rebounds on 3 for 10 shooting.
The Bulls, who were without the injured Luol Deng, came out and jumped the Celtics from the very start, holding a 13 point lead going into the half and was able to sustain it with strong defensive plays in
the second half. They also made the point of attacking the basket, as evident in their 44 points in the paint and 32 free throw attempts.
Game 5 will take place in the United Center, Chicago IL as the series now morphs into a best-of-three.

TheMC5 wrote:Your big men DOMINATED the boards. Pierce didn't light you up as bad as I thought he would either, though 11-19 shooting is pretty nice. And Rondo is a playoff triple-double machine! You gotta steal at least 1 on the road now...

Oh shit, you do too. Somehow I thought Celtics had the higher seed, despite the obvious green all over the court in the pics from games 3 and 4. D'oh!

Allen's three helps Boston take 3-2 series lead
Chicago, IL - He did it in the 2009 first round series.
He did it again tonight.
Ray Allen made a go-ahead three point basket with less than 2 seconds remaining and finished with a game high 28 points to lead the Boston Celtics to a 90-89 game 5 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
Despite having offensive struggles all game long, Chicago almost had the victory as they fought back hard after being dominated in the first quarter, taking back the lead in the 3rd and held it until Allen knocked down the long range bomb.
Dwyane Wade led the charge for the Bulls with 19 points, but he was a miserable 7 for 26 from the field as the Celtics once again played aggresive defense on the superstar guard. Wade's backcourt partner, Derrick Rose did not fare well either, as he went 6 for 16 from the field, finishing with 13 points and 10 assists.
As a whole, the Bulls were only 39% from the field (37/93) and saw their Free Throw percentage dipping down to 68% after a 30 for 32 performance in game 4.
"The rim seemed like it was sealed tonight" Bulls coach Byron Scott said "Our shots just wasn't falling."
Center Joakim Noah once again dominated on the boards with a game high 17 along with his 13 points and 2 blocks, but for the first time the Celtics were the ones winning the battle on the glass, outrebounding Chicago 52 to 44.
Behind Allen's 12 for 26 shooting, which included a near-perfect 4 for 5 from three, the Celtics bombed away from long range, knocking down 7 of their 15 attempts and going for an overall 36 for 87 from the field.
Paul Pierce dropped in 26 points along with 6 rebounds, Kevin Garnett notched a double double of 14 points and led the way for the Celtics with 13 rebounds while Rajon Rondo took home Player of the Game honors following a 4 point, 11 rebound, and 15 assist performance.
"He was great all-round" said Doc Rivers "You love those kinds of (rebounding) efforts from your little guy"
For the most part, the Bulls played excellent interior defense and posted 10 block shots. Led by Josh Smith and (surprisingly) Brad Miller, who had 3 blocks each, Chicago held back Boston's inside game.
However, it was the perimeter offense of the Celtics that proved to be fatal.
With the absence of Luol Deng, Paul Pierce just cannot be stopped by Chicago, that is to be expected; but it was the inability of Dwyane Wade - and excellent defender - to stop, or even slow down Ray Allen's offensive onslaught that is drawing raised eyebrows.
This was especially evident with the game winning shot from (arguably) the best shooter ever to lace it up. In that play, Wade did challenge the shot, but he was nearly half a foot away from Allen. This of course was more than enough for Sugar Ray to find the basket.
"I think it was just an error in judgement from him, to be honest" said Bryon Scott "We'll go over film and address the issue, he'll work it out"
That better be the case, because the season is on the line for the Bulls in the next game.
Ray Ray does it again for the Celtics, winning the game with this three point bomb
