Hyperize. wrote:Clever caption about Gay's straight game. And good luck in these last few games man, they shouldn't be too much trouble.

Kind of funny how I thought of that, a "Rudy Gay was the Player of the Game" or something similar to that just sounds boring, so it's fun using clever captions every now and then.

The last few games shouldn't be too hard, except maybe the Suns, but other than that the other games should be easy.
Thierry. wrote:OT win against an eliminated team, lol, but great triumph. Yao still dominant!

I feel ashamed of myself for having to go to OT against the Pacers  . But we dominated them in OT, where it mattered most. :)
Clutch wrote:
"Just because we have the highest place in the playoffs doesn't mean you can goof off this game, we need momentum and confidence going into the playoffs," were Rick Adelman's words at halftime.

yeah man, listen to coach! who do you guys think they are... LA? :P

you momentum is screwed atm... that game vs Indy was terrible, then spankage at the hands of the Grizz? :? Yao's the man, but he can't be expected to win it all by himself!

In the Grizzlies game, I didn't try to win that much until the end, where I was down and said "Oh crap, they're actually beating me, I should start trying my best now," . It was a case of too little too late and they wanted and needed the W more than I. The Pacers game was bad because we struggled to score buckets in the first 3 three quarters, but we got our act together.

It's not uncommon for a team in your position to drop a couple of games in real life. So long as you're on top of your game when the games really start to matter, you'll be fine.

Isn't that what the Cavaliers did this past season? They rested LeBron James and went on a 4-game losing streak to cap off the season? I should do that too  jk.

3-game recap

[62-15] Houston Rockets 101-99 Utah Jazz [31-47]

Image
Trevor Ariza showed an outburst of superstar this game.

The Rockets continue to struggle with eliminated teams, blowing an 18-point lead in the 2nd quarter. The Rockets just couldn't play any defense, and look to just be goofing off as the regular season is about to come to a close. But a clutch shot by K-Mart found the Rockets up by 4, and the Jazz scored a buzzer-beating lay-up, which is why the Rockets won by 2.

[63-15] Houston Rockets 97-79 Charlotte Bobcats [39-39]

Image
The Bobcats were given too many easy buckets early on.

The Rockets struggled yet again, but just in the 1st three quarters. An atrocious 4th quarter got the Bobcats out of the game as the Rockets went on a 16-0 run, and despite many offensive boards, the 'Cats couldn't get anything to go. The Bobcats will need to search for answers elsewhere if they want their first spot in the playoffs.

Not even the best bench in the NBA could get the Suns to set.

This has the potential to go down as the best game in the regular season. No team got out to double-digit leads, and the lead changed almost every 5 minutes. The Rockets struggled early on, but got their act together in the 2nd. The Suns shot poorly early on too, but kept themselves in the game with second chance points. However, the Suns' best offense showed in the 2nd half. They scored field goal after field goal, and the Rockets looked like they were just floating in space.

In the 4th, things started to heat up, Trevor Ariza was the key to a Rockets' comeback, and gave them a slight lead with 2 minutes left. The Suns managed to go up by 5, but after a 3 made my K-Mart, the Suns looked stunned. A missed shot by Amar'e was good news for the Rockets, but Yao did not box out on Channing Frye, and gave him the easy basket, game over for the Rockets. The Rockets scored additional useless baskets, while having to settle for Steve Nash to head to the line, and the Rockets lose, and tie the season series against the Suns.

"I am very disappointed in Yao, having the most rebounds in the NBA, and not being able to get one at a crucial moment like that just demoralizes the team's confidence, momentum, and more importantly, Rockets fans," were Rick Adelman's words after the game. Yao disappeared after shaking hands with the Suns team.

I think Clutch, the Rockets' mascot, deserves some credit for the Rockets' successful season.

News Flash: The West now has 8 teams with a clinched playoff berth. Along with Houston, Los Angeles (Lakers), Phoenix, San Antonio, and Dallas; Portland, Denver, and New Orleans will be joining them in the ring hunt.

Also note: Along with Cleveland and Chicago; Boston, New York, Orlando, and Miami are joining the hunt for the coveted championship in the East.

2 more games in the regular season, the recap of them will hopefully be up by the end of tomorrow.

Thanks. :D That 16-0 run killed them in the 4th, I think they lost confidence. The Suns game was frustrating, I kept swearing at my TV.

Tough loss against the Suns, no surprises with Nash posting his usual impressive stat line. Rick Adelman isn't mincing words.

Treat for the Readers

I don't know if many people would consider this a treat, but this is a thank you for all those reading my dynasty. :D I'd like to share my experience of watching an NBA game live with my readers.

Background: In the 2009-10 season, on November 27, 2009, I went to see my second ever NBA game! (I had gone to one when I was 3, but I don't remember. ). It was the Houston Rockets vs. the San Antonio Spurs. I went with my Dad, a friend, and his Dad. It was a positive experience, and a very good game. The Rockets were up at halftime, but a 7 minute scoring drought by the Rockets helped the Spurs go up by 12. In the 4th, the Rockets battled to come back, with Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola, and Trevor Ariza leading the pack. The Rockets lost 92-84, but it was cool watching my two favorite teams in the NBA. I had decent seats, they weren't floor seats, they were around 20 rows up from the court. Here's some pictures of the game:

The Spurs practicing before the game.

NBA stats and recap of the game here.

This is the only video I took, as my camera didn't have much space left.

Not to worry, I don't like losing.

Nash is one of my least favorite players in NBA video games. Rick is a coach you don't want to anger, just get coached by Nate McMillan instead.

2-game Recap

[64-16] Houston Rockets 100-81 Sacramento Kings [32-48]

Image
The Rockets took advantage of this blowout and rested the starters.

This was a dominant performance for the Rockets. In the 2nd quarter, they were up by 20+ points. In the second half, the Rockets bench had a huge chunk of minutes, and helped to maintain the lead as the Kings just couldn't get anything to fall offensively, and were massacred in front of their home crowd.

The Rockets are ready for the playoffs.

Even though both of these teams have their place locked in the playoffs, they still played with intensity. Why? These two teams will be facing each other in the first round of the playoffs. The Rockets set out to a 23-point lead in the 1st half. This looked to be another massacre delivered by the Rockets. However, in the 4th quarter, the Hornets battled back, pounding on the 20 point deficit to 18, then 15, then 13... They came within 10 with a minute remaining, but nothing could be done to overcome the Rockets as they now head into the playoffs strong.

Rick Adelman's words after the game: "I am very proud of what this team has done. It is a great feeling to be coaching the best team in the NBA. The momentum won from this game will surely carry over to our series against the Hornets."

Thanks for the feedback! :D 66-16 was the record of the Cavs in the 2008-2009 season, I'm sure you can relate to that. I'll try to get as far as I can in the playoffs, as long as Yao keeps putting up great performances.

End of Season Review

After a very strong regular season, the Rockets head into the playoffs strong. One has to wonder however, that the Rockets started losing more after the All-Star break. For the first 41 games of the regular season, the Rockets went 36-5, and the last 41 games, the Rockets went 30-11. More struggle in the second half of the regular season, but hopefully that doesn't carry over towards the playoffs. Also, the Rockets only lost 3 home games this season, making Houston the hardest place to be on the road in the NBA. The following is a review/scouting report of each player on the Rockets roster, and the team leaders in certain stat categories.

IR Players
Jermaine Taylor- He spent the biggest part of the season on IR, he only got to play in 4 games. Though he is a SG, he is a pass first kind of guy. With one year left on his contract, he has time to improve so he can get re-signed by the Rockets after the 10-11 season.

David Andersen- He spent the first 20 games of the season inactive, but after the injuries to Scola and Jeffries, he made his debut and did not upset. He is a shooter, something you don't see in 7-foot players, and he can also get to the basket with ease. He is a tough presence on the post and the perimeter, offensively and defensively. He has a bright future not just in the NBA, but on the Houston Rockets.

The Bench
Jared Jeffries- A good shot blocker and rebounder, that isn't his only strength. He can score on the low post, and shoot from the outside. He is too fast for most PF's and C's, and too strong for SF's, so he is a tough matchup on the offensive end. His contract expires after this season, and there is no guarantee that the Rockets will resign him.

Jordan Hill- Though he really doesn't score consistently, he is a dominant player on the low post, and is not scared to block shots. As a rookie, he is still adapting to the NBA, but with the Rockets playing Halfcourt offense, it benefited him as he's not a very fast player. He has a decent mid-range shot, and if he leaves the Rockets, he can fit in with many other teams in the NBA.

Kyle Lowry- If you talk about players who can get to the basket with ease, you have to put Lowry in the conversation. Using screens, and his speed, he caused nightmares for most teams, and if the paint wasn't empty, he can still get to the foul line, where he shot over 85% this season. He did very well in backing up Aaron Brooks this season, and was second on the team in APG.

Donte Greene- Acquired in a mid-season trade, Daryl Morey hit the jackpot. He is a young player, still with a lot to learn, but he is an effective three-point shooter. He can also get to the basket and shoot some long 2's. With 4 years left on the Rockets, one day, he might earn a starting role.

Chuck Hayes- Not a scorer. But he is strong and quick. He did an excellent job backing up Yao this season, despite being undersized for the C position at only 6"6". However, with his rock body, you can't score on the low post, and the Chuckwagon did an excellent job in forcing other Centers out on the perimeter.

Chase Budinger- Acquired in the second round of the draft by the Pistons, then traded to Houston, Daryl Morey once again hit jackpot. He is comparable to Donte Greene, effective shooter, and can get to the basket. When there is a game-winning shot to be made, and K-Mart isn't around, Bud will take it. An upcoming free agent, he is one the top priorities for Houston to re-sign.

Shane Battier- The best on-ball defender on the team, and probably in the NBA. He is an effective shooter, and can get to the basket, but he is relied upon to match up against players like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Shane is the reason superstars in the NBA hate going up against Houston.

The Starters
Trevor Ariza- On his first year of his 5-year contract, he didn't show much to impress. He did have games where he would just burst into scoring rampages. He needs to work on his outside shot, but he is effective in getting to basket and drawing fouls. Hopefully in the next 4 years, he can impress.

Luis Scola- A very underrated player, him and Aaron Brooks utilize the pick-and-roll almost as well as the Nash-Amar'e combo. You see him scoring on the low post or on the perimeter, so dunks aren't really part of his game. It was disappointing to see a hard worker like him go down with an injury early in the season, but he made a good recovery and came back stronger.

Aaron Brooks- He makes up 33% of the Big 3. A good outside shooter, he is a pass-first kind of player. He goes well with any player on this team, but Kevin Martin was the one who helped him towards his 7.2 APG. If he continue his playmaking skills in the playoffs, he is sure to help lift this team to a championship.

Yao Ming- Another part of the Big 3, he is the bigger part. At 7"6", he can reach over anyone for rebounds, and this season he averaged a career high 11.7 RPG. With a decent outside shot, he is another great option for the pick-and-roll play. He's at his best when he's receiving alley-oops from AB. With an expiring contract, he is Rockets' first priority to re-sign this off-season.

Kevin Martin- The best scorer in the game. He earned his first scoring title, averaging a career high 29.3 PPG, shooting nearly 50% from the field! He made the most FT's in the NBA this season, and the most Field Goals. Breaking 2 franchise records this season, he is sure to go well in the playoffs.

Team Stats-
*PPG- Kevin Martin (29.3) Yao Ming (14.6) Aaron Brooks (13.5) Chase Budinger (7.5) Luis Scola (6.5)
RPG- Yao Ming (11.7) Luis Scola (5.6) Jared Jeffries (4.2) Chuck Hayes (3.6) Jordan Hill (3.1)
*APG- Aaron Brooks (7.2) Kyle Lowry (4.7) Kevin Martin (3.1) Shane Battier and Trevor Ariza (1.4)
BPG- Yao Ming (1.7) Luis Scola, Jared Jeffries, and Chuck Hayes (.7) Jordan Hill (.5)
*FG%- Yao Ming (51.6) David Andersen (49.7) Kevin Martin (49.2) Aaron Brooks (48.2) Jordan Hill (45.7)
*3P%- David Andersen (52.6) Chase Budinger (44) Aaron Brooks (41.9) Kevin Martin and Shane Battier (41)
MPG (out of 36 minutes)- Kevin Martin (24.7) Yao Ming (23) Aaron Brooks (21.7) Luis Scola (18.8) Trevor Ariza (17)

*-Notes that the Rockets led that category as a team.

So those are the awards. The Rockets got some awards in Yao Ming, Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger, and Rick Adelman. The All-Rookie Teams are loaded with PG's, but the 2009 Draft class featured some very good Point Guards, so there's your result. Now here are my predictions for the awards I didn't get to see-

Sixth Man of the Year-?
Defensive Player of the Year- Dwight Howard- looking at his stats, there's no question
Rookie of the Year- Tyreke Evans- same case as Mr. Howard
Most Improved Player- ? - Aaron Brooks could've been a contender, but again, I feel stupid to have accidentally pressed a button, AGAIN.

Next is the playoffs preview. Thank you all for those who have read my dynasty.
