I've never liked Derrick Rose. He's always been an overrated player, beating out more deserved players for awards, and later, all-star nods. However, what I dislike the most is his stupidity. Obviously his academic failures and inarticulate interviews are a good indicator, but for me, here's the biggest:
RealGM wrote:Derrick Rose reportedly preferred the Bulls to sign Joe Johnson instead of LeBron James, according to multiple people that spoke with Brian Windhorst.
Both Rose and Johnson are represented by Arn Tellem.
C'mon son. Then again, its a lot easier to be "the man" on the team when the highest paid player is an aging, mediocre shooting guard, as opposed to the best player in the NBA.

You don't think your dislike for him causes you to underrate him a bit?
Wed Jul 07, 2010 7:53 am
Always been an overrated player? He's 21 years old for goodness sakes. He's only just starting out.
You're making it sound like he's 30 years old or something...
No doubt we're not watching the same Derrick Rose.

i have to take Confusious side in this.I tottally agree with that.
He's just too young too be judged as overrated or underrated players

If I say that Derrick Rose is the best player in NBA history am I overrating him?
Or is that not possible because of his age?

There's a difference between calling someone the best in the league when they haven't had enough time to establish themselves in the league vs. someone who just flat out refuses to give him a chance because he has all that first overall pick hype wrapped up around him.

You're going to have to properly rate Derrick Rose, and make everyone else do so before we can decide if he's overrated or not.

Yes,if you say that Rose is the best player in the NBA history of course you overrate him and by far.
Actually,to make safe impressions from a player he has to be in the league at least 5-6 years for me.
Otherwise you can't judge him.He maybe just a good player in the begining and then be the league's star and vice versa.
The same goes with Beasley as well to give another example. We have to wait a few years more before calling him a fail or not
And what's the point with my Avatar?

So, it's now looking like Bosh will join Wade in Miami. Here's hoping the Bulls land LeBron, otherwise I think it's going to be a very disappointing offseason.
Thu Jul 08, 2010 12:52 am
If the Bulls lose out on LeBron, I fear they might overpay for Carlos Boozer. It would be a good signing (If they don't overpay), but definitely not the outcome the Bulls hoped for when the off-season started.
They still have tons of cap space and the exciting young core of Rose and Noah, so LeBron is still a big possibility.
Thu Jul 08, 2010 2:01 am
wow the bulls have the best team set up to win right now with any of the major free agents. infact if 2 of the top 4 joined them i dont see how they do not end up with a ring or 2, probably more. despite that it is starting to look like the bulls are gonna come away with none of the top guys and will probably over pay for the 2nd tier free agents. bad news for bulls fans
Thu Jul 08, 2010 6:31 am
If Bosh hadn't of decided on Heat, I could've honestly seen Wade going to Bulls. I guess nobody wants to play with an overrated point guard who would prefer to play with Joe Johnson over Lebron James
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:01 am
I believe that bulls in the case they fail to sign lebron must move quickly. Sign Allen(he,s still free agent, right?) with 4-5 millions Boozer with 15 maybe and add maybe t-mac and other quality players in balanced salaries, and
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:04 am
haha, eat this bulls fans!
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:06 am
i can see the bulls going after allen now. they are gonna need to send some money his way to do it though. if its equal amount no way he leaves. i am starting to think that the celtics wont offer allen that much though and he will be moving on. we need to keep him and add 2 more players if we want to be back next year
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:08 am
So the Bulls got Boozer.
I think the Bulls off-seaspm can be considered a disappointment, at least so far. They didn't get Amar'e, Bosh and Wade and I think this move shows they are not hoping to land LeBron. If they can get say a Ray Allen also, they would still be a top 4 team in the East, as long as they can get some bench guys.
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:27 am
Boozer? It's an assumption or a done deal? Maybe this can help James to go to the bulls?
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:31 am
Boozer is a confirmed deal. Even before Lebron
Rose
<insert sg here>
Deng
Booz
Noah
isnt a bad starting 5, and even a great one if Rose becomes great instead of just good.
But we'll see if they can manage to convince lebron to come, but im not sure their pitch was as good as they thought.
Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:41 am
So the key now is the work on the key players. Work on Rose and Noah, hope deng will play as he can for the first time the last years and get a Sg which is dangerous like Allen is and the team is strong and has the ability to do something and maybe make a trade in the season which will help the team further
Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:44 am
i see the bulls really going after ray allen now. i am sure they will offer more than the celtics. damn it all. they wont sign him til lebron is gone though
Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:08 am
I like the move, as injury prone as Boozer is. If LBJ doesn't go to Chi-Town, its hard to see the team being any better than 5th in the East, with their top 3 players all being fringe all-stars.
Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:23 am
most important thing: The Bulls are being reported as STILL having cap to offer a max contract...
Dirk, Amar'e, and now Bosh were off the market. Getting Boozer, the next best PF, was the next best decision to make. the Bulls finally get their post scoring guy and is great for the pick-n-roll. but you gotta take the bad with the good. the injury issue and possibly work ethic are legit concerns
The Boozer acquisition still keeps the Bulls in the LBJ running: they can still offer him the max, have a talented roster, and will have the MLE to acquire a SG and/or other ring chasers

You know i thought he was super injury prone too...then i looked
2002-2003 81 G
2003-2004 75 G
2004-2005 51 G
2005-2006 33 G
2006-2007 74 G
2007-2008 81 G
2008-2009-37 G
2009-2010 78 G
I mean yeah there's three low seasons but the rest he's in 70 plus games. Hows that make him injury prone?
Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:35 am
Well, he's missed an average of 23 games a year as a member of the Jazz. A guy like Greg Oden playing 72% of his games would be a godsend, but the Bulls are giving 16 mil a year to a guy who'll likely miss at least quarter of any given season (and could very well become more injury prone as time goes on!). It was a necessary move, but Bosh and Amar'e are definitely safer bets (though Bosh's knee is troublesome)

The X wrote:I guess nobody wants to play with an overrated point guard who would prefer to play with Joe Johnson over Lebron James

Again, who's overrating him? Who's calling him the best point guard in the NBA or anything like that? If anything, I'd say he's being underrated by folks like yourself who seem to be writing him off as an awful player with no redeeming qualities or talents. As for the reports about him preferring Joe Johnson, sure that's a misguided thought if true, but why are we placing so much stock in one report when so many insiders have claimed so many things this offseason? I'm not saying he's the smartest guy around nor the best point guard in the league or that he doesn't have room for improvement, but I just feel there's a willingness to accentuate the negative when it comes to Rose.
As for the Boozer signing, I like it. As air gordon said, he was the next best power forward available though I wouldn't have minded David Lee. If they've still got room to offer a max contract then perhaps all hope of LeBron isn't lost - guess we'll find out soon enough - but they won't be coming away empty handed. Good work PaxMan, good work; now let's see what else you can do this offseason.
