I think it's pretty weird for N.O.H to give Thib a deadline on his decision. since when do organizations impose their own deadlines? (ahem Ben Gordon) why are they playing hardball? the hornets aren't the only team that is coach-less

It said (or implied) in some reports that Thibodeau is just using the Hornets offer as a leverage for the other teams that he wants to sign with (Nets, Bulls).
I guess this is the Hornet's way of finding out if Thibodeau is really serious with them or not.

It might've woken them up a little. If Thibodeau is just using the Hornets as leverage, it seems to be working.

Ferry's departure Friday after five seasons occurred two weeks after the club fired coach Mike Brown following the team's second-round loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs. if he was their #1 choice all along, why wait last minute? OR how about Forman's comment about hiring a coach with nba coaching experience

Thibs is said to be well liked/respected by the players. great defensive schemes. Jeff Van Gundy said he's not just a defense guy/knows offense as well.

Thibs would be one big step forward for luring James. We all know that Thibs constructed Boston's entire defensive scheme, and we also know James demands his team play defense... I don't know, I could certainly see one landing the other. It'd help if we could sign Bosh while James is visiting NY/NJ, and by the time he visits Chicago, he'll know where he belongs.

Deng and Hinrich would have to go to make this plausible.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Boston Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau has reportedly accepted the Chicago Bulls' offer of a three-year contract to become the team's next head coach.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the hire will be made official following the conclusion of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Thibodeau's Celtics.

A little, though supposedly the Bulls were his first choice so I guess he was just using the Hornets as leverage, in which case it definitely worked.

As for the hiring itself, he certainly comes with high recommendations so fingers crossed he's as good as advertised now that he's finally in a head coaching role.

Didn't he also turn down the Knicks offer? I think that speaks volumes about how he views this team. I can only hope Lebron and Bosh follow suit.

though IIRC only one of two has to go to for the Bulls to take on 2 max contracts.. most likely one will be in the from of a sign and trade.

Some league executives don’t even believe Bulls general manager Gar Forman was sold on Thibodeau, but it doesn’t matter. Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf was. Everything is happening on the ownership level now,.....

I'd take Calderon over Hedo if it came down to it. If nothing else, it's a slightly smaller salary, runs a year less and he's a couple of years younger.

You wouldn't have to take either unless there was another team willing to take on the contracts for the right to pay Bosh more money per year. Any team that would is taking themselves out of the free agent market for the rest of the class.

Absolutely, I'd hope it doesn't come down to that. If it did though, I'd probably take Calderon.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's reaction to the whole Izzo/LeBron fiasco.

There's nothing wrong with LeBron James keeping in the background during the Cavs' search for a new coach. Even if he's the ultimate power on the team, he's smart not to make that too obvious. But to refuse a phone call from a guy whose name is already penciled in at the Hall of Fame?

LeBron wouldn't have to say, "Tom, I love what you've done at Michigan State, and I want to be part of what you do with the Cavs." He wouldn't have to say, "Tom, I love what you've done at Michigan State, but I'd prefer playing for someone with NBA experience." He wouldn't have to commit himself either way. He could have said, "Tom, I appreciate the call, but I haven't made up my mind and won't until much later."

He didn't have to say even that, of course, but taking the call would have been the decent thing to do. And the fact that he didn't do suggests, to us, that this decision is going to be driven by the coldest of calculations, not by any sentiments of loyalty or obligation.

I think it's pretty obvious he was giving Izzo the thumbs down without explicitly saying so, but I don't think it affects the situation with the Bulls or works to their advantage.
