Stealth Bench Finish Off The LA Job
16 December, 2012
Preview | Box Score | Recap | Highlights

Image

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Kobe Byrant was expecting a more impressive game from Reshawn Tyson but came way disappointed from their matchup. “If he (Tyson) wants to talk smack with me, then he better back up his words with his play,” the NBA veteran stated. Tyson rebutted, “We scored about the same but I took more than half of the shots he took. I wouldn’t be saying much if I was him.”

And the young star has a point.

Tyson finished with 20 points on 7 for 12 shooting while Bryant may have finished with 25 points, 8 assists but on 11 for 28 shooting. To further rub salt into the wound, Bryant’s Lakers dropped the game by 20 points.

After winning in the same building on the previous night against the Clippers, the Stealth got off to a sluggish start. Andrew Bogut was the main man for Seattle with 20 points in the first half. “I just wanted to be aggressive out there,” Bogut stated, “We were a bit slow coming out of the gates so I had to pick it up.” Seattle just couldn’t put LA away until the final quarter. The reason for that was unpredictable.

Seattle’s reserves stepped up in the final period and stayed on longer than they expected as they built a double digit lead and got the away side the win. Luis Scola, Trevor Ariza, Aaron Karl, and Jao Wu scored all of their points in the last quarter and helped Seattle win the quarter 36-23. Scola playing with a dislocated finger scored 8 points, Ariza added 8, and Karl and Wu added 4 apiece. “Our bench stepped up and we finished off the Lakers,” Jason Kidd, who was held scoreless but had 9 assists, said, “Kudos to them.”

Notes: Seattle moved 1.5 games ahead of Utah for the Northwest Division lead... Former Stealth SF Adam Morrison finished with 8 points, 6 assits, and 2 blocks. The former Gonzaga Zag gave Stealth Head Coach Will Sit a hug before tip off and later spoke fondly of Sit for giving him a chance to resurrect his career in Seattle. “He traded for me to get me out of Charlotte. That was the best thing to happen to me”...

Great win, but it's strange to see Durant as your third option on offense. I really wouldn't know though, since I haven't been consistently following this association. Those Stealth jerseys are hot though.

Chapter 4

“One win above 500, one win. There’s nowhere else to go but up!” Will Sit was standing in the middle of the home team locker room, “Nowhere else to go but up!”
His assistant coaches were clapping and some of the players were giving each other high fives.
Sheed butted in, “Uh coach, we could go down.”
Sit shot an icy glare at Sheed and said, “Someone get that fool out of here.”
“But...” Sheed tried to make a point before a security guard removed him from the room; he was only trying to be funny.
“See you at practice tomorrow!” Sit yelled out as Sheed was escorted outside.
The players were laughing and in high spirits as Sit talked about the win against the Timberwolves.
“Great defence,” he complimented Ty before saying to Andrew Bogut, “Loved your work tonight big man. You carved them up.”
He walked past Durant and gave him a high five, “This is what I’m talking about. Sharing the rock. Getting everyone good opportunities to score.”
Durant didn’t show much emotion and just nodded. Sit walked past David Lee and merely acknowledged that he was there. Sit walked out of the room flanked by George Karl and team captain Jason Kidd. David Lee, coming off his best game of the season, looked a little dejected after his coach’s snub.

Seattle had been looking for a suitor for Lee for a while. Sit decided to ask the front office to hold off on any trade though as the team was on a roll. Their 9-8 record was soon to become a 14-10 record after a middle of the month clash with the LA Clippers. Ty’s performance was numbing as he wound up with 42 points, 10 assists, and 8 steals. He and Durant would combine to score 22 in a fourth quarter that saw the Clippers fight back from a double digit deficit and nearly post the win. There had been no conflict between the two players for months and a chat between the two, one day after practice, helped to make them become even more cohesive.

* * *

“I want to make it clear that this is your team,” Ty conceded, “I’m not here to step on anyone’s toes. I just want to play ball, I have more to worry about than whose team this is.”
Durant arrogantly replied, “Don’t forget you said that because this is my team. Without me, there is no you. You don’t want to piss off the three time NBA scoring champion.”
“I think it would be best that we learn to feed off of each other so that we can get ready for a championship run. I want to win one for Jason.”
Durant laughed, “You’re not the one winning it for Jason. I am.”
“Then it’s agreed?”
Durant nodded and shook Ty’s hand, “Don’t try to steal my shine, don’t try any funny moves, and I won’t give you any trouble. And don’t think this makes us even. We will never be equals in the league. You’re just a lousy second option and I’m a superstar. If you want to beat your old mate Chara, you’re going to need me on your side.”
Durant left and Ty picked up a basketball and kept on shooting around.
Alone.
In the dark.
He was happy to get it off his chest and knew that there was no doubt he and Durant would be fighting again later in the season. But for now, he could deal with one less bit of drama.

* * *

Fast forward a few weeks and no team in the NBA wanted to come up against the tag team of Durant and Tyson. The duo was playing outstanding basketball. They were both top ten scorers. They weren’t only getting their own points but they were helping Andrew Bogut look like a legit All-Star and David Lee seemed to be either boosting his trade value or earning merit points to stay in Seattle. Their similar styles made it hard for coaches to pick who to double or to allow both to have single coverage. It was a nightmare for opposition coaching staff. Most of the time, they went with double teaming Durant. On this night against the Clippers, Durant seemed to be having a night off as the defence zeroed in on him; allowing Ty to take much of the spotlight. Durant didn’t remain quiet for the whole game and helped Ty prevent a Clippers comeback win.
As the buzzer sounded and the players walked off the court, Ty was held back by one of the local sports reporters for a quick chat, “Great game tonight! What was the key to your 42 points tonight?”
Ty answered, “Just picking my shots. I guess I had the hot hand tonight. Playing smart and being aggressive. Just the usual.”
“You play the Lakers tomorrow;” the sports reporter stated, “Kevin Durant looked a bit under the weather. I heard that he was sick so if he is sick tomorrow, do you think you will be able to carry the team?”
Ty laughed, “I will try my best.”
Ty turned around and ran towards the tunnel. He was given a towel by Sheed who patted him on the back as the two continued to the change room.
“Good game kid,” Sheed congratulated him.
“Better than any game you would have played,” Ty joked.
“Hey you!” Sheed shouted as Ty jogged ahead.

“You old and busted!”
Sheed was yelling from the Stealth bench at Kobe Bryant who was walking towards the halfway line as the officials stopped the game to review a call.
“What did you say Sheed?” Bryant retorted.
Sheed started to dance, “Kobe’s old and busted, Kobe’s old and busted.”
Jack Nicholson looked over at the exchange and tiled his head down so that he could see without looking through his shades as he kept them on. He looked back the other way and decided to mind his own business. Sheed was laughing and Kobe had walked up to him.
“Sheed, you crack me up,” Bryant laughed to hide what he was really feeling; he was getting quite peeved by Sheed’s antics.
“My boys are killing you!” Sheed continued.
Bryant took offense, “Why don’t you come out here and do some of the work too. Or are you too old for that?”
Sheed didn’t say anything and Kobe shook his head. He continued past the scorer’s table and joined his players in a small huddle near their bench. Kobe and his Lakers were helpless as the Stealth breezed to a 20 point win in their second straight game at the Staples Centre. Sheed would continue dancing in the locker room after the game; causing Coach Sit to tell him to ‘sit his ass down.’
“We’re playing great basketball right now,” Sit briefed his team, “Let’s get home and get some rest. Let’s try and keep our run going!”

Since winning against the Lakers, Durant recovered from the flu and came back a force to be reckoned with. Ty and Durant worked seamlessly as they navigated the side through a five game winning streak. With each W, the team moved closer to the top of the Western Conference standings. Ty had 34 points and Durant had 33 in a win against Milwaukee. Against the Knicks, Seattle got a balanced scoring effort from Durant, Lee, Bogut and Ty with Durant leading the way with 26. The streak continued in Utah with Durant notching 38 points and 9 rebounds. Ty added 36 points and 10 assists.
“No one can stop them,” a dejected Nate McMillan told beat writers after his team’s loss to the hottest team in the league, “Durant and Tyson are just too good.”
Durant high fived Tyson in the locker room to the surprise of Andrew Bogut. Durant had scored 30 while Ty had scored 25.
“What was that?” Bogut asked Durant.
Durant replied, “Just encouraging him to play well.”
Bogut seemed dumbfounded. Durant and Ty were requested to conduct the podium interview after the game and both obliged.
“I guess we are in a good space right now,” Ty stated, “Kevin and I have played great basketball for a while now. I’m very confident that I can help him lead this team.”
Durant later added, “The growth of Ty has been great. I can’t praise him enough. He has really helped to make my job a lot easier here.”
The two closed off the interview after a few minutes and Ty got up and walked off in a serious manner while Durant leapt up and started shouting, “My team baby!” The two got on the team bus amid claps, cheers, and high fives from their team mates.
“It’s great to see you two playing as you are,” Sit shook both of their hands.
In the middle of the bus ride, Sit turned to George Karl, “This is what we wanted two years ago. We’ve finally got it.”
Karl was excited, “Perhaps this is the season?”
Sit nodded, “Yes.”
Unfortunately, the good will wouldn’t last long.

“You’re a bust,” Durant was saying to Christopher Blake.
Blake was the number 8 pick of the 2011 NBA Draft for the Charlotte Bobcats. To say he was a good pick would be a massive understatement but for Durant to call him a bust, and to his face, would have hurt his ego a lot. Blake was seething with anger and embarrassment as a player he had respected so much had just disrespected him so bluntly.
Blake was chasing Durant on the defensive end and jumped up as Durant took a leaning jumper. Blake tried to hit Durant but swiped his shooting hand after the ball had been released. The whistle blew as the ball missed its target.
“Can’t stop me,” Durant was up in Blake’s face.
“Try that again and you will be on the ground,” Blake threatened him.
Durant laughed, “I dare you to lay a finger on me. You won’t be in the NBA anymore if you did that.”
“I ain’t scared of thugs like you.”
Durant and Blake kept talking trash even as Durant went to the line to put Seattle up by 8 points with two made free throws. Durant turned and ran towards the other side of the court. Blake followed closely and ran up close to him.
“Don’t test my patience fucker,” Blake warned Durant.
Durant told him to shut up. The Bobcats scored on that possession down the floor and Kidd had brought the rock up and passed the ball to Durant who had an open lane to drive towards the hoop. Durant faked out Mark Moore and made his move to the basket. As he went up into the air for a dunk, Blake came out of nowhere to smash into him hard. Blake’s strong arms made contact with Durant and Durant went sprawling backwards and towards the ground. Durant was on his back and looking up towards the ceiling of the stadium. He felt a bit dazed. And he raised his right arm as high as he could to signal for help.

Sources: Seattle Stealth Offered Elton Brand

December 23, 2012

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – League sources have told ESPN.com that the Philadelphia 76ers have offered the Seattle Stealth aging PF Elton Brand for PF David Lee. It is a potential Christmas present for Seattle and the franchise is expected to carefully analyse their options before making a decision on whether to take the offer.

After weeks of speculation, Lee could be on his way out of the club that signed him to a modest deal after he left the New York Knicks. The talented forward has failed to reach his predicted All-Star status with the club but has been a starter since signing with the club. He helped catapult the team into their first ever postseason campaign under their Stealth moniker and the side was successful reaching last year’s Western Conference Finals.

However, Seattle has recently been under the impression that Lee does not fit into its game plan anymore because his style of play doesn’t fit into the half court game that Head Coach Will Sit wants to implement. Sit has pleaded with his team to slow down the offence in order to accommodate for the aging Jason Kidd. The shift in focus on the tempo of play was a huge departure from George Karl’s fast paced offence and has clearly hampered on Lee’s effectiveness.

Brand has been lacklustre since signing with the 76ers. The former LA Clipper and NBA All-Star has slipped in form season after season and seems to be on the outer. The last straw for Brand was last postseason where he was terribly disappointing as he struggled to score in double digits and was a sieve on defence. It is believed that the Sixers are big fans of Lee’s game because they believe his finesse will fit in nicely with athletic wings Vince Carter and Andre Iguodala.

Both clubs did not respond to phone calls yesterday.

I say dont do the trade. you would be trading your future for a one year glory. It would be better to bench lee for now than to trade for brand. How long is kidd sticking around anyways? Personally i would trade kidd for another aging pg who still has his legs.

I think Brand is much better in the game then he was this season. With the recent play of Lee though, I'd stick with him. Brand could interfere with Bogut's emergence this season too.
