Pulled out Afterlife by LucasArts for a touch of nostalgia last night.

Not quite as difficult once you get the hang of it and stick to making one realm profitable first. It's surprising it wasn't better received, it's not half as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be.

Crap. Now I want to play that again.

See? You can't shelve it forever. I demand a remake!

......
Classic games...
My computer doesn't even have a floppy disk drive, let alone 5.25" floppy disk drive.
All my old PC of course went broken, so even if I had those old games shelved, I wouldn't have ways to play them.
You are lucky, Andrew. Those classic game days were the best. First PC game I've played was prince of persia in black and white. That was awesome back then.

That one's on CD, though I have to run it in Windows 95 compatibility. It ran fine on my old machine under XP, which I'm still running on my current PC but am now having some compatibility problems with as far as the old games are concerned. Fortunately, compatibility mode and DOSBox are proving to be viable solutions, though I actually have a couple of old Windows 98 machines for some true retro gaming (and for a couple I've never been able to get to run under XP).

Makes me wanna put Monkey Island 1-3 on my harddrive, but I whilst the third one is definitely too easy once played, I find the first two really difficult to get through.

Love the first two, MI2 is probably my favourite. They're remaking that as well, it'll be out later this year.
Fri Apr 23, 2010 3:00 am
Borderlands
Episodes from Liberty City
Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena and the original / remake Escape from Butcher Bay
MLB 2K10
NBA 2K10 - not sure if I will continue this. I just finished my 1st Association season and the patch screwed up the 3pt rating for many big men giving them all a 92.
Mass Effect 2
i still need to finish Assassin's Creed 2. Haven't even turned the 360 on since I got my computer back.
My bro bought a PS3 in an attempt to try something different (he's finally getting bored of his PC MMO's and QuakeLive) so I will probably get to play some Uncharted 2.

I got the key code for my free copy of Assassin's Creed upon buying my i5 CPU, and it's alright so far, I was hoping for more visual improvements (another obvious console port) but I guess you can't complain with such large maps and crowded places. It's still fun to jump all over the place and climb crazy tall structures.

Back to GTA IV. Finally on the final mission... The first parts with the chasing and gun fight are easy and tedious. However, after beating it the first time (and then losing because I forgot how to fly planes), I have always choked on the motorcycle part, either going the wrong way or riding it into some water. Frustrating.
EDIT: Minutes later I beat it. Easy mission, but lack of checkpoint system made it harder.

How is it compared to the first game? I liked the first one but like a lot of people I found it a bit too repetitive. I've heard the second one is supposed to be better in that regard, so I might pick it up sometime.

I found it quite annoying that you always had to start in front of the building since I screwed it up like 10 times with the motorcycle either not knowing where to go or just loosing control. Quite satisfying to kill the guy in the end, but maybe not spectacular enough.

I'm still early in the game but it does look like it's gonna be pretty repetitive as well. Maybe a bit less though, as they did add a few features here and there to make it make it more of a GTA kind of experience I guess (being able to buy stuff now, to slightly change your look, to loot bodies, etc.). The gameplay is essentially the same but they did make an effort to make it less of a routine compared to #1. I like it so far.

NBA 2K10 since I'm totally done with Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. Stuck in the NBDL even with an overall rating of 60 and teammate grade of A+ in 70+ games. I believe that the "2kGlitch" got my player.

Bought FEAR 2 for 10 bucks, hadn't had a chance to play it yet. The demo didn't leave me in awe and the reviews were not fantastic, but I'm hoping it'll still be fun to play.
EDIT: it really is fun to play in fact. Just like the first FEAR, it probably has the best FPS mechanisms in the gaming industry and the firefights are as visceral and intense as it gets. The story is what it is and the engine shows its age, but it's still a great shooter to play.

I see, thanks for the impressions.

I might rent it on 360 first and see how I like it, as I said I did like the first one and it's no doubt an impressive and creative game in many respects, but the repetitiveness did taint it somewhat for me.

After playing a few more hours, I can certainly confirm that it's a much more diversified experience all around. The combat is very similar to what it was in the 1st game, but they did add lots of little things to make it make it less repetitive, like the numerous side-quests, the inventory, the enigmas to solve, etc. The art direction is quite amazing too. Lots of fun so far, and impressive work from Ubisoft for once.

if you dont mind the DRM ive heard its a great game...ill just never get a pc copy due to that satanic DRM
Mon Apr 26, 2010 3:07 am
Yeah, I hate that Ubi went that far and forces you to be online at all times to play this singleplayer game, it's everything that's wrong these days with PC gaming. It doesn't give you a choice at all, you NEED to create an account on the Ubisoft website and stay online just to be able to launch the game...
That being said, you see the game being given a lot of 1/5 or 2/5 reviews on sites like amazon just because of the DRM thing, not based on what the game has to offer, which is really pathetic. The game itself is amazing, and even I, who hates having to be online to play, see no problem in doing so here. It's well worth it.
Mon Apr 26, 2010 4:09 pm
I forgot about that. I guess it's a minor hassle when it comes down to it as my PC's always online anyway and I'm sure it doesn't take long to set up that account, but if I do pick it up perhaps I will opt for the 360 version. As I said I might rent the 360 version first anyway.

Rented Episodes From Liberty City. Played a little Lost & Damned, and didn't care for it, but I've been digging Ballad of Gay Tony. Missions are funner than in the regular game, and the new radio and cars are great. (the Comet is sick!)
EDIT: This helicopter mission makes me want to choke a bitch.

Finished the "So Blonde" point and click adventure game. Expected more since this was a first clicking adventure game in a long long time, but rather it was dull and boring. Relied on the walkthrough the whole time, so it was a breeze, like watching a movie. Only if it was half good as Monkey Island...
Mon May 03, 2010 6:31 pm
Monkey Island sets the bar pretty high.
Still the same rotation for me, though I need to pick up my 06 Dynasty again. Been trying to progress a little further in Afterlife most recently, in the hopes of seeing some of the stuff I've never had the patience for in the past.
