http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=31092 < These folks had it too, seems a firmware upgrade helped them out too.

Thanks Jackal. Unfortunately, it looks like this was a slightly different issue, since those peeps were getting hissing sounds and did not really mention an AV receiver.

The new firmware did not do shit, whether I set the HDMI sound to mute or not. Once again I got the sound for all the previews (which is apparently because they're never with full-blown HD sound), but nothing during the movie. Since I don't really feel like buying a new blu-ray player or surround sound system, I think my last resort is to stop using the HDMI cable from the blu-ray to the TV, and use the regular RCA analog cables instead, but the visual quality will obviously not be the same... :(

EDIT: just saw this, sorry to hear about that Pdub, hope everything will be okay.

He didn't want to go to the hospital even though the paramedics were urging him to. They think he may have been having a seizure, which could be true, although I did find a pack of french fries on the ground near the trash can where he had fell. He seems pretty coherent, although I don't believe his story about "getting into that position to try and lodge the french fry out" since he was on his back and his glasses had fallen off several feet away and that my sister said she heard a crash from him falling.

Now he just told me that his fall had straightened his glasses, but I was the one who did that after finding them. Maybe he had a small seizure causing him to choke, or maybe he was choking and it caused a seizure. Either way, no more french fries. And hopefully seizures.

Scary stuff, hope he's alright.

Isn't there an option on the actual blu-ray discs' menu to change the type of audio output? Like setting a DVD to use DTS or Dolby Pro Logic or LPCM or DD5.1?

Wow that sucks... my mum thought she might've had a small heart attack a few weeks back but refused to go to the hospital :? said she had too many other things to do that day. Old people are stupid.

Like setting a DVD to use DTS or Dolby Pro Logic or LPCM or DD5.1?

I think that actually did the trick. I set it to HD LPCM, where it asks to set the speaker size and all that crap, and it was finally working, at least with that blu-ray I had last night. Hopefully, it's problem solved. Thanks for the help Pdub.

Glad to help. You aren't just getting sound but the proper multi-channel surround, correct?

I believe so, I need to wait til I receive a new blu-ray to make sure, but I think I was finally getting some 5.1 sound that way. Not the optimal quality though, as explained by this expert in this other forum I went to. I'm starting to understand how it works now, but I still can't believe how complicated getting proper audio can be...

I think some people are just afraid/wary of doctors and hospitals or would simply prefer not to get things checked out in case the news is really bad. I know a few people like that, fortunately they usually get checked when they're really in discomfort.

on-topic: Read a few threads in the 2K10 patching section. I suddenly have the urge to kill for some unexplained reason.
