Backcourt: Despite trading Kirk Hinrich to the Hawks for Defensive Player of the Year Josh Smith, the Bulls have upgraded the point guard positions with the acquisitions of Jason Williams, Dwyane Wade (who can play the point) as well as their prized rookie Evan Turner (like Wade, can play the point). Derrick Rose is now an All-Star and has been recognized as a top 5 point guard with his All-NBA Third team selection last season despite the Bulls' horrid record. Rose is unquestionably the team’s present and future at the position and his growth as a leader and a point guard will only continue with the former Sacramento star Jason Williams on-board.
In the 09-10 season, Rose averaged team-highs of 23.2 points and 7.7 assists per game. While undoubtedly his skill level has improved, expect both areas to experience dips as he would now be sharing the ball with the great Dwyane Wade on offense. Both Rose and Wade operates with isolation as well as pick and rolls so the ball should be in either one's hands 80% of the time during their time on the floor.
As traditional, back-to-the-basket centers become extinct, point guards are on the rise. Every team is looking for their own Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Steve Nash and the Bulls have certainly found their franchise cornerstone. If he can reduce his turnovers, his on/off court numbers will improve. Rose averaged a team high 3.9 turnovers in the 09-10 campaign, but with Jason Williams here to teach him, expect this to fall rapidly.
As for the 2-guard spot, the Bulls have great depth with the undisputed starter in Dwyane Wade and sixth man in Evan Turner. The Athletic James White and 3 point shooter Kyle Korver could also play spot minutes at this spot if that is the need of the team (e.g. Injuries)
What Wade brings to this team is his invaluable all-rounded game, besides having the ability to average 30 points a night, Wade is one of the best defenders in the NBA, and should help the Bulls improve their defensive efficiency into one of the league's best. Additionally, as the former NBA Finals MVP, Wade carries with him the experience and poise of a champion, his years of up and down following injuries are also valuable experiences that would benefit the Bulls greatly.
Frontcourt: The Bulls frontcourt is as stacked as their backcourt. With the addition of All-Star and DPOY Josh Smith joining forces with fellow All-Star Luol Deng and the hardworking Joakim Noah. Smith brings to the Bulls his tremendous athletic ability on defense that they have lacked since letting Tyrus Thomas go, his Shot Blocking ability and awareness on defense that gets him all the steals and rejections are second to none. Expect him to Anchor the Bulls defense much like how Kevin Garnett once anchored the Boston defense upon his arrival there.
Furthermore, the Bulls have great depth up front with Taj Gibson being the primary backup, and with the resigning of veteran Brad Miller, who brings toughness, leadership, great court vision and his ability to stretch the floor. The Bulls have also added former number 1 overall pick Kwame Brown, who has had a career of being labeled as a bust, but should be able to contribute off the bench. Former Jazz Kyle Korver brings valuable three point shooting that the Bulls otherwise lack severely.
Injuries are a concern, as Brad Miller and Joakim Noah has already taken turns in receiving light injuries during training camp. Vinny Del Negro would need to monitor their situations carefully as come playoff time, they would be needed desperately.
Deng and Smith's offensive numbers would drop as the offense would be entirely in Rose and Wade's hands, but don't be surprised if they are able to make the All-Star team once again with their defense and team success, these two are both All-Star materials, especially in the thinned Eastern Conference.
Season Forecast: Even with the major changes that would require time for the new guys to get comfortable. The Bulls are way too talented to be thinking a lower seeded playoff entry. They have the talent, they have the youth, and they have the required experience. With the balance of power in Cleveland shifting to the West (LeBron headed to Kings), the spot is vacant for Chicago to take, even with the Wizards upgrading with Bosh and the Heat getting a solid group in Boozer, Salmons, Beasley and O'Neal; 50+ wins and a top 3 seed should be an ideal goal for the Bulls.
Offense: B
The addition of Wade and Turner adds to Chicago's backcourt firepower, but interior scoring is still a concern yet addressed.
Defense: A
With Smith and Wade on-board and Rose improving on the defensive end, Chicago is set here.
Experience: B
Vinny's coaching is still of concern, but the players are experienced enough, even if most are still under 30 or even under 25.
Health: C
Minor injuries arriving one after the other even before the season began, the Bulls might want to hire Tim Grover just to be safe.

Lamrock wrote:Your team is fantastic! I hate D-Wade more than any other in this league, so you'll be hard to root for, but I like Turner and the rest of the squad. J-Smoove was a great, if somewhat unrealistic pickup.
