Tyreke Evans wasn't keeping track of how many shots he was taking; all he knew was his team needed some offense, and he was feeling good. The rookie from Memphis scored 14 of his career-high 21 points in the first half and the Sacramento Kings beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 99-88 on Monday night for their second win in four games. “I have no idea how many shots it was, I was just shooting,” Evans said. “I tell people all the time if the shot is there I'm going to take it. I missed a couple of easy shots in the first half, and they were good shots. They were shots that were given to me, so I just continued to take them in the second half but I wasn't so lucky.” Hilton Armstrong, starting in place of the injured Spencer Hawes, recorded 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Kevin Martin added 20 points and Jason Thompson had 14 and 13 rebounds.

“Winning games at home is a must,” Armstrong said. “Tyreke was knocking down shots so we continued to go to him later. He took over on the offensive end. There were a lot of good things since we weren't playing with Spencer.” Rudy Gay scored 19 points to lead the Grizzlies, who lost their first game in four contests. Marc Gasol and Michael Conley added 12 points apiece for Memphis, with the center posting 13 rebounds and the Ohio State guard racking up 8 dimes despite playing with a twisted ankle. “I thought we tried to do the right thing,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “It was tough to establish a low post game and we struggled to score.” Kings reserve Donte Greene had 11 points in 9 minutes in another positive note.

Evans made four of his first 6 shots in the first quarter. “They were doubling Kevin (Martin) on the pick-and-rolls and he was making great decisions in passing the ball. The other guys were finding me, and it was just one of those nights where you feel good.” Kings coach Paul Westphal said: “We had a lot of great performances tonight. Hilton was tremendous with his play tonight, and he blocked two shots. Obviously Tyreke had it rolling in the first half.” Sacramento led at halftime, 57-41, and 81-58 after three periods; Memphis posted a 30-18 fourth quarter but wasn't enough.

Also, I'm in favour of Arenas out of those 3, as I don't think the Pacers would do that kind of deal in real life and I like Wallace sticking with Charlotte as well. Arenas of course has very bad contract, but in right conditions could be a star again and I would like to see Evans-Arenas duo in the backcourt (by the way, who would you start at the point then?).

The Atlanta Hawks had the misfortune of playing Sacramento one night after their win against Memphis. One day before, they suffered their worst loss in a long time against San Antonio. Almost everything the Kings did poorly against the Spurs, they did well in a 100-65 romp over the Hawks on Wednesday night. Kevin Martin scored 31 points, Tyreke Evans had 18 and four others reached double figures as the Kings shot a season-high 48 percent from the field. Sacramento eclipsed the 100-point mark thanks to 8-of-18 shooting from 3-point range -- 44 percent. Atlanta only shot 2-of-16 (12.5 percent) from 3-point land. “We know what we're capable of, and to have a game like that against the Spurs, it was very disappointing for everybody,” Martin said. “We just tried to make amends for that night.” The Hawks swept last season’s series 2-0 with an average of 13.5 points.

“We're not a good defensive team, everyone knows that,” Sacramento coach Paul Westphal said. “But I thought that tonight, we were good at defense.” Joe Johnson led Atlanta with 16 points and Josh Smith added 15 -- the only two Hawks in double figures -- but from the middle of the second quarter on, Atlanta trailed by double digits and never made a serious run at the Kings. “I didn't think we got into it at all,” Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. “Our last wins looked like it took a little more out of us than it should have. I thought that we would be a lot more ready than we were tonight. After losing the way they did against San Antonio like that, Sacramento was going to come in here ready to play.” Atlanta didn't have one single bright spot. Kings center Hilton Armstrong continues to post good stats in place of the injured Spencer Hawes: 12 and 9 bounds.

The Kings took the lead for good at 16-13 on a 3-point play by rookie Omri Casspi midway through the first quarter and led 24-15 by the end of the period. The Hawks twice cut the lead to three points -- the final time at 30-27 with 8:09 left before halftime --, but Sacramento used a 19-4 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from Evans, Andres Nocioni (11 points) and Martin, to go up 49-31. Down by 17 at halftime, Atlanta came no closer in the second half. The Kings stretched their lead to 23 points by midway through the third period and it peaked at 33 points. “When the ball is moving and the guys are making the open shots it makes everything else seem easy,” said Casspi, who scored 11 points staying perfect from the floor, 3-of-3 and 1-of-1 from beyond the arc. “It's great to have nights like this, especially after the loss against San Antonio. We were basically the exact opposite of that contest.” Sacramento finished the game with 22 assists in 38 field goals, led by Evans, who had 5. “The biggest thing for us tonight was sharing the ball,” he said. "When your shots are open it's more likely that they're going in.”

Last season was the first year in which Kevin Martin was allowed to have the keys to the organization. He was coming off of a 23.7 points per game scoring season (good for sixth in the league) and shot over 40% from three-point land. He had a brand new contract extension of five years and just over $50 million and seemed to be ready to be the number one scoring option for this franchise. And when he was healthy, he handled that pressure just fine. He made over two three-pointers per game, got to the free throw line 10.3 times per game, and averaged a career-high 24.6 points per game. But he only played in 51 contests. In fact, over the past two seasons he’s missed 52 games and seen his season point total, field goal percentage, and efficiency field goal percentage decline each year of the past three. He’s the cornerstone of this organization right now, but there have to be doubts whether or not he should be the number one guy. And if you start to believe that his slight build will cause injuries, which overshadows his ability to rival Carmelo Anthony as the best pure scorer in the NBA, then, is there a certain point you begin to consider dealing him in order to maximize the return? The Kings did something similar (although with a much different team makeup) years ago with Peja Stojakovic. At the time, the Kings were worried about having to overpay Peja, but Sacramento isn’t locked into a bad contract by any means with Martin: his $44 million left over the next four years is a bargain for someone that can average the taller side of 20 points per game. But if you can get the type of return for him now, like the Kings did with Peja in acquiring Ron Artest, you have to entertain the option of trading him in order to keep the rebuilding process going.

Now, I realize how ridiculous this sounds. Why deal a guy with a manageable contract who scores this easily? There are two reasons. First, outside of Beno Udrih’s signing last summer, the former GM (I've been here for only a couple of weeks) has been pretty good at acquiring players through free agency. Assuming we don’t overpay for a free agent this summer, we’re going to have an obscene amount of cap space in the vaunted summer of 2010 (that's the idea). Adding an $11 million cushion to that already burgeoning cap space could be invaluable. I’m not saying that we absolutely should trade Martin, but he’s obviously not over the hill or a part of the team that needs to be jettisoned. But in a situation like ours, with the team having good cap flexibility and one of the best front offices in the league, keeping our options open to anything should be a must. And Martin is probably the guy that brings in the most value. So I’ve come up with five potential trade scenarios that I could do before the trade deadline -- or in the offseason -- in order to fix our issue at the point guard position, acquire more young talent to build with, and, most important, keep the cap space growing to add the bevy of talent available in 2010. I must say, these are not rumors by any means -– only ideas that me, as the owner and general manager, I'm sharing with you fans.


• 1) Kings trade Kevin Martin, Sean May & Kenny Thomas to the Mavericks
in exchange for Jason Terry, Shawn Marion and Rodrigue Beaubois (Trade Breakdown)

This one seems a bit risky, and a bit of stretch, and maybe lopsided for us when you look at it at the first time, but consider this: both Terry and Marion are averaging career-lows since their rookie seasons, but they would bring their explosiveness to the squad and also adding the rookie Beaubois to the equation, I think it's fair for both teams, also considering we are letting May go and Thomas' expiring contract, and that would also put Terry at the point guard position, maybe not his favourite, but he would be some kind of mentor to Udrih and Rodriguez. We’d clearly be giving up some talent by going from a good scorer like Martin to someone in Marion who has been a disappointment in Miami and Toronto, but his rebounding ability, solid passing and outside game could be big steps towards getting this team back towards respectability. That would boost us a lineup of Terry, Evans, Marion, Thompson and Hawes. That is not a bad roster to add on a veteran or two, or we could fill with veteran minimum contracts and wait to spend the cash next summer; a deal with Udrih would come next to make room for Beaubois. Martin would form a deadly duo with Dirk Nowitzki.


• 2) Kings trade Kevin Martin, Kenny Thomas & Andrés Nocioni to the Rockets
in exchange for Tracy McGrady & Aaron Brooks (Trade Breakdown)

This is a trade idea that is more about clearing long-term cap relief (a really big cap relief), while acquiring yet a potentially very valuable role player in Brooks. I'm sure some of you will call me crazy for trading a talent like Martin away, and specially for T-Mac who suffered this devastating injuries in the past years, but this move would alleviate close to $24 million from our cap next summer as McGrady's contract expires this June. That would give us the pole position for the free agent heaven of 2010. Just imagine: Brooks, Evans, LeBron (yeah, I'm dreaming here), Thompson and Hawes. Houston would let Kyle Lowry do the point, Martin and Trevor Ariza for a huge backcourt, and Luis Scola and Yao Ming (when he returns) for a great Starting 5.


• 3) Kings trade Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia, Ime Udoka and the draft rights to Dejan Bodiroga to the Bobcats
in exchange for Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton and Alexis Ajinca (Trade Breakdown)

The Kings would take a little hit in the first year of this deal in terms of scoring and production, but they would benefit in the long run. We would be able to shift Tyreke to the shooting guard position, Felton at the point (with Sergio Rodriguez and Udrih as backups) and Wallace at SF, along Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes (when he comes back from his injury). So we would go into the 2009-2010 season with a young core of Thompson, Hawes, Donte Greene, Sean May and Jon Brockman, not a bad coreby any means and something the Kings could either let develop together like a young Blazers team, or trade away for veterans like Boston pulled off two years ago. Not to mention, we’d have a lot in cap space next summer with Felton going off the books. For Charlotte, they’d probably do it in order to jump at the chance of putting D.J. Augustin, Martin, Stephen Jackson, and Boris Diaw on the floor together, along Bodiroga in the future.


• 4) Kings trade Kevin Martin, Andrés Nocioni & Sean May to the Pacers
in exchange for Danny Granger, T.J. Ford & Luther Head (Trade Breakdown)

Some sources says the Pacers have allegedly been shopping Granger around, but they’re denying those rumors. So what do the Kings get out of this? I think Granger, if he gets traded, would only want to play for a championship, and, clearly, Sacramento won’t be that next year. But, Ford's deal is up after this coming season and in my opinion I'd let him go, as he has a $8.5 million expiring contract. Well, it gives us even more cap space from dealing Martin for an expiring deal. But, supposing Granger won't be traded, if we’re not getting young talent for Martin, in addition to the cap space, would it even be worth it? Maybe some of you will call this a terrible idea and just a laughable trade thought, but it works under the CBA. Also, I don't know if Indiana would trade Ford considering the only true point guard left in their roster is Earl Watson...


• 5) Kings trade Kevin Martin, Kenny Thomas, Andrés Nocioni & Beno Udrih to the Wizards
in exchange for Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, Mike James & Dominic McGuire (Trade Breakdown)

This actually seems like the most fair for both sides trade to me. Considering Washington's attempt to void the remainder of Arenas' contract after the gun-locker episode, and Jamison apparently saying (this hasn't been official yet) that he wants out of DC, IMO, it's a great move, at least in the short-term. He has a 3-year deal averaging about $13 million a year, but as a player, he's a great fit and better than anyone we would be able to sign in free agency. I'm not sure if he plays good low-post defense, but he gives us an A+ low-post and all-around scorer. He is crafty and could teach the young bigs how to score. We also get James' expiring contract of almost $7 million and McGuire is just there for salary reasons; Udrih has to be there compensing what Washington is trading to us. It would give the Wizards the chance to rebuild around Caron Butler and Martin, and also letting Thomas leave with his $9 million expiring deal. To me, it's a win-win situation; I like a Udrih-Martin-Butler-Nocioni-Brendan Haywood lineup for the Wizards.

Thanks bro. It was a happy surprise to see Armstrong posting these stats. Martin is playing good because I simulated 4 of 5 games I'm more scoring with Evans, Thompson and Hawes/Armstrong when I play the full game and leaving Martin for clutch shots.

I like three possible trades, Houston, Charlotte and Washington.

For Houston, you will get a solid guard in Brooks and you might as well revitalize T-mac's career

For Charlotte, you will get awesome players with those two and not to lose much players, probably Evans will be the leading scorer with that line-up.

For Washington, It's nice to acquired two solid players with Arenas and Jamison but I don't think that Evan will improve alongside Arenas.

In those three I probably go with Charlotte or Houston. right now I don't feel Arenas as a Kings

Deron Williams and the Utah Jazz had an answer for every run by the Sacramento Kings. Despite trailing by 9 at halftime, and just by 1 going into the last quarter, the Jazz rallied to the last minute of the contest before beating the Kings 108-106 on Saturday night. “We've been in a lot of close games, that's what got us to the playoffs last season,” said Williams. “We learned last year how to close big games out, and that's what you've got to do.” Kevin Martin had 34 points, Tyreke Evans scored 18 and Andrés Nocioni added 12 and also grabbed 12 rebounds for Sacramento, who now are 3-3. “This game was thrilling,” Martin said. “When you can come out on an good defensive night against Atlanta, and come to play against a tough Utah team, that says a lot about your team.”

With 2:11 left in the fourth, Andrei Kirilenko (18 points) gave the Jazz a 101-99 lead with a 3-pointer, but Nocioni came right back with a 3 of his own to put the Kings back in front. After the teams traded baskets, Williams' layup put Utah ahead by a point, but again Sacramento answered with Evans' jumper for a 104-103 lead with 1:34 remaining. Following a miss by Martin on Sacramento's ensuing possession, Jason Thompson (11 points) made two free throws to extend the lead to three with 1:03 left. Ronnie Brewer, with a highlight dunk over Thompson (check the pictures) pulled the Jazz 106-105, and Williams hit a miracle 3-pointer over Evans to seal the scoring. Williams was 0-of-5 from 3-point land before the shot.

“Deron is our MVP,” Kirilenko said. “He's been doing it for a lot of nights, and this performance was no different.” Williams finished with 29 points and 15 dimes, Mehmet Okur scored 23 and ten rebounds, and Brewer added 21 points and five steals for Utah, now 3-3 as well. “It's disappointing to come out on the short end because we played hard,” Kings coach Paul Westphal said. “We fought hard and we were in a position to win.” Okur said, “I don't think it was the time to panic (when they were down by double digits). We got some big stops and made some big shots.” Jazz's Carlos Boozer was limited to only 4 points, but Utah had 31 assists on 40 field goals.

The Charlotte trade is my 2nd favourite. Wizards one is the frontrunner, I've already said that. To put Jamison, Arenas and Evans together, that's huge.

If i were you i'd be looking for a deal that sends Martin away for expiring contracts and let Tyreke lead the team through the year before concentrating on getting a big name FA or 2 in the offseason, but that's just my take on it

Kevin Martin scored 31 points to lead four Kings in double figures as Sacramento embarrassed Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, 119-89 on Sunday night. Tyreke Evans had a career-high 30 points and 8 assists, Andrés Nocioni 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Jason Thompson 13 points and 11 bounds, and the Kings easily ended Golden State's 2-game winning streak with a blowout. “This was a big game for us,” Thompson said. “When we play against other West teams, we lock in. We lock in big-time. I thought everybody played great today - everybody.” The Kings, who started a four-game homestand with this contest, built an 13-point halftime lead, then had a 28-point advantage at the mid of the third quarter. “We get juiced up a little bit,” Martin jokingly said. “We were focused both offensively and defensively,” he added, about the efforts against the other top teams.

Stephen Curry, who had 44 points against Phoenix in a loss on October, was limited to 9 tonight, and 2-of-15 from the floor. “It was embarrassing, it was disappointing, it was everything,” the rookie said. “It's tough, no matter who you play, to lose by 30 points like this, and more if someone has a performance like mine tonight.” Andris Biedrins had 15 points and eight rebounds in 34 minutes in a 7-for-9 shooting, Warriors' best performance. “They came out with a lot of energy, more energy than we did,” Biedrins said. “And it seemed like they couldn't miss there. It was just one of those games. Everyone was flat, including myself.” Kings coach Paul Westphal said: “It's understandable that they will struggle the first weeks trying to adjust following their new acquisitions (Curry, Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic). They had an identity of how they played when they had players like Baron Davis or Jason Richardson. Their identity is going to adapt. I still they they're going to be a better playoff-type team because of the people they have.” The Kings shot 11-of-19 from 3-point land while the Warriors only made 2-of-12 (both by Curry); Sacramento also outrebounded Golden State 39-28.

I really love these sticky tapes and the whole style of the weekly rewind. Martin's been playing great, but I guess it's safe to say a trade is already in the making.

Honestly I find the Wizs trade a bit too one-sided. I mean you get two All-Stars and an expiring contract, whilst Washington has to deal with two very bad contracts in Noc and Udrih.

I like the Bobcats/Rockets trades. I would say yes to Wizards but am not a fan of Gilbert no more... plus he'd jack up too many shots

Yeah, a trade will be made, that's for sure. So now the Bobcats deal is up front, a lot of you like it. If I get Arenas, he would change his attitude and be more of a Nash guy and pass more the ball. (I would edit his tendencies)

I really love these sticky tapes and the whole style of the weekly rewind. Martin's been playing great, but I guess it's safe to say a trade is already in the making.

Honestly I find the Wizs trade a bit too one-sided. I mean you get two All-Stars and an expiring contract, whilst Washington has to deal with two very bad contracts in Noc and Udrih.
