Bol, Heat tops Nets in first meeting with Yao
Image

Miami, FL - In his second NBA game, Hakeem Bol faces off against the only player he'll be looking upwards at, the 7'6" all star center Yao Ming. While Bol did not put up eye popping stats like his NBA debut against the Wizards, he helped his team get the W.

The 7'4" rookie center out of Kansas put up a solid 10 point, 10 rebound double double playing against Yao, and with some help from Dwyane Wade and Michael Beasley, went home happy with a 102-95 victory.

Wade had 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals while Beasley took home Player of the Game honors after a 18 point, 13 rebound performance. Felton added 18 points and 8 assists while the last of the fab 5 Tracy McGrady finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Mario Chalmers chipped in 5 points and 6 dimes off the bench.

The Heat fought hard and recovered from a slow start with a strong third quarter, they continued their push offensively in the fourth and eventually was able to hold on a steady Nets onslaught.

New Jersey was led by Yao Ming, who had a game high 28 points and 14 rebounds, alongside 6 assists and 2 blocks. Yao was an effective 12 for 17 from the field but was limited to just 28 minutes due to foul trouble.

"They were attacking the paint a lot and i was just too aggressive defensively" said Yao "Me picking up those fouls really hurt the team"

Trevor Ariza and Ray Allen played solidly, scoring 19 and 16 points respectively while sophomore Leo Lai showcased his improved all round game with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

But the Nets were missing Chauncey Billups, who is out with a bruised Knee. Derek Fisher, his replacement, managed 9 points and 4 assists but clearly could not stop Miami's Raymond Felton on defense.

"Fish was good for us but we really need Chauncey" said veteran Eric Snow, who had 6 assists off the bench "We also need to play with more energy and hustle if we wanna hold onto leads"

Bol is just so good that he dunks through the back-board.

Tough loss, but then again the Heat are probably the best team this year.

Wright Undergoes Successful Surgery, out 4-6 weeks
November 7th, 2010

Image
Golden State Warriors forward Brandan Wright underwent successful surgery today to
repair a broken toe on his left foot, the team announced. Following the surgery, which
was performed by Dr. James Andrews at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida,
Wright's left foot will be immobilized for up to four weeks, at which point he will be
re-evaluated prior to the next phase of rehabilitation.

Wright, a 4th year veteran, suffered the injury in the Warriors' 98-93 victory over the
Toronto Raptors on November 4th. A 6-10 forward, Wright was the #8 overall selection
in the 2007 NBA Draft, and had been averaging 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks
per game over 4 games thus far as a starter for the Warriors.

Rookie Martti Must will be starting in place of the injured Wright.

Nash in extension talks with Phoenix
November 7th, 2010

Image
All Star Point Guard Steve Nash have recently begun extension talks with the Phoenix
Suns, according to sources.

Nash, a 36 year old veteran of 15 years, is in the last year of his contract that's worth
$4.91 million dollars, a one year deal that he signed in the offseason with the Suns.

Nash is currently averaging 11.3 points and 8.5 assists per game in 31 minutes per game
and the Suns are currently holding a league-best 7-1 record alongside their pacific division
rival Los Angeles Lakers.

'Melo, Nuggets Have Productive Talks On Extension
November 8th, 2010

Image
The Denver Nuggets and star Carmelo Anthony have had productive meetings recently
about a possible contract extension, according to sources close to the team.

Anthony is set to make $17.15 million dollars this season with a player option for next season
that would pay him $18.52M, he could also opt out of his contract and look for what is almost
certainly a max deal on the FA market.

The all star forward is averaging 20.9 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists
per game thus far.

Kidd announces retirement at end of season
November 8th, 2010

Image
Jason Kidd has announced earlier today that he'll be retiring at the end of this season.

Kidd (37), is playing in his 17th NBA season; a 9 time all star, Kidd ranks second on the all time
assist leaders with 11,013 dimes, trailing only Hall of Famer John Stockton (15,806). He is also
third on the all time triple doubles list with 103, ranks 2nd in playoffs triple-doubles, and is the
only player in NBA history to record at least 15,000 points, 7,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists
in his playing career.

Amongst his numerous NBA achievements, Kidd also has 2 Olympic gold medals and 3 FIBAS world
championship gold medals playing for the USA National team.

He is averaging 10.0 points, 10.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game this season so far
for the Dallas Mavericks (4-2).

The 1995 NBA co-rookie of the year and 5 time All NBA First Team player, Jason Kidd will be remembered
for leading New Jersey to two finals appearances during his tenure with the Nets between the years 2001
to 2008 as well as a triple double machine. He is only the second player in NBA history to average a triple-
double for an entire postseason.

"Aside from winning a championship, I've accomplished all that I can in my long NBA career, it's time to
move on" said Kidd in his press conference "Sometimes when you make a decision and you know it's right,
you have a peace come over you. I'll play my heart out with my teammates here in Dallas this season, and
do what i can in an attempt at the trophy, but once that's over, I'll be at peace with myself"

Sheed to retire at end of season
November 8th, 2010

Image
Pistons Center Rasheed Wallace has announced his retirement, effective at end of this season.

Wallace (36), a 16th year veteran, was a core part of the Pistons team that won the finals in 2004. A 4 time
all star, Wallace is perhaps most know for his all time NBA record of 41 technical fouls in the 2000-01 season
as well as his constant blunt remarks in the media.

"One thing's for sure, the NBA will miss Sheed" said teammate Richard Hamilton, who was also part of the 04
Pistons champion team "He's a great guy to be around, and a terrific player, we wish him the best"

"Oh the NBA will miss me for sure, cause they can't fine me no more" joked Wallace "I mean, David Stern can't
cash in 25k every time the press asks me something now, he must be in tears."

They should have gotten Bol the ball more. 5-5 is decent but he could have made 10 of 15. Yao dominated as always. I don't like the fact that he is injured in real life and in my dynasty.

Keep it up (Y)

Raymond Felton was taking too many bad shots
I hate it also that Yao's always injured in real life, really sucks for the Rockets (and him obviously). Hope he can have a healthy career after this major surgery (Y)

Billups leads Nets to victory in return to Denver
Image

Denver, CO - For the second time, the hometown kid had a great homecoming.

Chauncey Billups led the New Jersey Nets to a 101-90 victory over the Denver Nuggets in his first return to Denver, filling up the stat sheet with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists in 33 minutes of play. Mr Big Shot was 5 for 11 from the field, 1 for 3 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 10 for 10 from the charity stripe.

The Denver Native, who played for the Nuggets for 2 seasons early in his career and then another 2 seasons after 7 successful campaigns with the Detroit Pistons, was traded to the New Jersey Nets in the most recent offseason in a 3 team deal that involved Devin Harris going to the Nuggets and Luol Deng going to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Finals MVP led the Nuggets to the Conference Finals in his first season back and the first round of the playoffs as the 4th seed last season. He was honored with a standing ovation during player introductions that lasted for more then 2 minutes.

"It feels great to be back here again" said Billups "This place will always be my home"

Prior to tipoff, Billups went over to the Denver bench and hugged his former teammates.

Yao Ming had another specular performance in the win, with a 20 point, 14 rebound, 3 block, 3 steals night; shooting 8 for 11 from the field while Leo Lai added in 18 points of his own, also shooting 8 for 11.

Ray Allen dropped in 16 from off the bench and Sean Williams put in another big defensive night with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 rejections in 33 minutes for the Nets, who are now 7-4 and leads the Atlantic Division.

The Nuggets were led by Devin Harris, who had a game high 25 points alongside 11 assists in the loss, however, Harris was just 7 for 18 from the field and had 7 turnovers against his old team. Carmelo Anthony added 23 points and 5 rebounds in 31 minutes.

The Nuggets attempted a run to get back into the game in the second half after a miserable 18-32 second quarter, but it wasn't enough as Nets coach Scott Skiles quickly stopped the momentum in the fourth with a well placed timeout and subbed back his starters in.

That move pretty much ended the Nuggets hopes of a comeback.

"We weren't playing good enough defense and just didn't click on offense" said Anthony "Of course, losing JR early had a part in it, but it's really on our execution. We played badly"

JR Smith separated his right shoulder after diving for a loose ball just 2 minutes into the game, he was helped off the court and did not return.

"I wish the best for JR" said Billups "He's a great guy and a good friend, it's unfortunate that he got injured tonight"

Following an X-Ray scan and an MRI, Smith is estimated to miss approximately 1-2 weeks.

"Luckily it's not too bad" said Smith "I'll be back soon"

That's some good news for the Nuggets, because the talent filled squad is now a disappointing 4-6.

Notes: Nets guard Derek Fisher had yet another DNP, his 5th in the last 6 games; Fisher stated that he understands and is not worried....Antonio McDyess was fined for an undisclosed amount after statements regarding his displeasure at being traded from the Pistons to the Nuggets, his second time in the past 3 years.....

Fisher Fine with Benching

Image
Nets guard Derek Fisher has registered 5 DNP-CDs this season, including
the third straight in tonight's game against the Nuggets. But the veteran
says he's fine with the decision.

"I'm always talking with coach and i totally understand and accept the
situation" said Fisher "On some nights, it's better for our team in terms
of defensive matchups to have Patty (Mills) out there instead of me;
I'm too old to run with those athletic, quick guards anymore."

"Plus, i understand that they need me to keep fresh for the playoffs"
added the 4 time champion "it was all in understanding when i signed,
the team needs me to provide playoff experience and leadership"

Sweet game by Chauncey. He posted kind of the numbers he does in my Dynasty on a regular basis, making him a MVP candidate. But I guess your MVP is still Yao, a double double every night.
