December 1, 2009 - God damn it. When Ricky Davis hit a three at the buzzer to put the Clippers up 13 going into the fourth, I thought that we were about to be .500, and start our home stand on the right track. Then, amazing(ly bad basketball) happened.

Despite being out-rebounded all game, The Clippers took control in the second quarter, thanks to a surprisingly tight defense that held Indiana to just 35% shooting in the first half. The solid play continued into the third quarter, with Baron Davis recovering from a slow start to score 10 points in the period. Like the last two games, the action was at a fast pace, with the score being 89-76 at the end of three.

In the fourth quarter, the Clippers lack of hustle on the boards caught up with them. "The shots simply stopped falling. They weren't really shooting any better, but they continued to get offensive boards. It was hard to watch", our pathetic joke of a coach said. the Clippers opened the quarter with a 16-2 run, taking the lead and turning the tables on a game that was nearly over. A timeout led to reserve Craig Smith ending the run with a dunk, but the damage had been done. Danny Granger continued to abuse Al Thornton and Rasual Butler, and T.J. Ford looked like prime Allen Iverson.

With thirty seconds left, we found ourselves trailing by 7. Sebastian Telfair then sank a clutch three to bring us within 4, 108-104. Eric Gordon then made a big play, intercepting the inbounds pass, and dunking it to cut the lead to 2 with 3.6 seconds remaining. The Pacers successfully inbounded the ball on the next possession, and the timeout-less Clippers fouled Dahntay Jones. Jones made both free throws, and Bassy airballed a halfcourt heave to end the game.

Chris Kaman, who led the team in rebounding with 9, was quick to throw his teammates under the bus. "Not to name names or play the blame game, but guys like Craig and Marcus really need to step up the hustle, or else we won't win. We can't be out-rebounded by 20 and expect to win." Rasual Butler cooled off from his hot streak, scoring 14 points on 7-16 shooting. Hopefully this loss inspires a personnel change, but that is sadly unlikely. Fuck the Clippers.

With the win, the Pacers improve to 4-1, and are currently 2nd place in the East. I doubt they keep this up, but they are a likely lock for a low playoff seed. Danny Granger and TJ Ford are both having all-star seasons, but are also major injury risks. Our next game is against the 1-5 Charlotte Bobcats. It should be a win, but then again, this one should have been as well.

Danny Granger killed us in the fourth. While we suffered a scoring drought, Granger was unstoppable. Hitting threes, dishing assists and crashing boards... He had season highs in points, rebounds and assists. Early on, he and TJ Ford kept the game from getting out of hand, and, as a superstar would, turned it on in the fourth. Rasual Butler and Al Thornton never stood a chance.
MCDWYANE Shitass Of The Game: Marcus Camby (Clippers): 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 turnovers, 2-5 FG (34 minutes)
On paper, Camby's line isn't that bad, and its not. However, the Pacers stayed in the game by out-rebounding the Clippers. Our leading rebounder had 4 rebounds, while opposing power forward Troy Murphy had 17. All those fourth quarter offensive boards that Camby allowed killed us. Offensively, Camby had perhaps his best game of the season, and that is just sad. Perhaps its time to hang it up, old man.

Don't trade Bassy!

I originally had a Bassy + Craig Smith for Nate Robinson trade in mind, but both players have been exceeding expectations as of late. As much as my team sucks, I enjoy our rotation. I might try to offload Craig Smith or Marcus Camby to open up for DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin when he returns.

What do you want for Camby? 1st Round pick & expiring contract from a contender?

I was thinking something more along the lines of a prospect and smaller expiring, but meh, if the shoe fits... I like Camby, but I can't have him being outplayed by Craig Smith. Could also send him to a cap-conscious team like the Knicks, and either let him enjoy a triumphant return, or be bought out and sign with someone else. We'll see.

Craig Smith is a machine. I recall him being Jared Dudley's 2nd hand fiddle at BC (even if Smith got all the credit).

Looks like Al Thornton is blowing monkey turd for you. If you're down to trade him, I'd say he'd be a great sweetener on a deal to land you another player and help free up minutes for DeAndre (whoopie that you also see some upside to him).

I'm torn about Thornton. On one hand, I'm horrible at using him, he sucks in real life and is the second best trade asset who I could stand to get rid of. On the other hand, I really like his defense and ability to play both forward positions. Seems he can do everything except score efficiently.

I wouldn't trade Camby. You are going to need him for defense and the more you learn to play with him, the more he will come through.

For some reason I can't rebound or shoot threes in this game. I can play D, and usually beat the computer in shooting by 5-10 percent, but I only shoot 20-25% from three and always get out-rebounded by double digits. I like having Camby, but a big man will have to go, and he is both the most valuable and the worst performing. Hmm.

For some reason I can't rebound or shoot threes in this game.

We play similarly. I haven't been able to rebound well since 2K8, actually. Completely lowering the fast break coaching slider helped me rebound, along with switching to the small forward as a shot is put up and putting a third man on the defensive boards.

As for 3 pointers, I have my most success from the 45 degree wing spots, usually catching the cpu sagging off. If I decide I want to shoot a 3 just to shoot one, 9/10 it's a brick. You can also try to use offball control and call for a screen and flash up to the 3 point line for a catch and shoot.

December 7, 2009 - Where can I buy a Sebastian Telfair jersey? After a difficult, back-and-forth game, we were down by ten points midway through the fourth quarter. In comes Sebastian Telfair along with the rest of the bench (DeAndre Jordan made his first appearance since the Pistons game), Bassy goes on a scoring tangent, Ricky Davis nails some clutch shots, and we go on to edge out the Bobcats, 98-95 for our first home win.

As usual, the opposing team got off to a quick start, taking a 20-12 lead. An 11-4 run led by MVP candidate Baron Davis put us within one to start the second quarter. The second period saw Chris Kaman play like garbage, and our backcourt dominate. Thanks to the Bobcats sucking at offense, we looked like the Spurs out there. Despite our frontcourt players slacking, we managed to lead 53-47 at the half, with Baron leading all players in scoring with 16. What sounded like a gunshot, rumored to be from Stephen Jackson was heard near the locker rooms during halftime.

The Bobcats turned the tables in the third quarter. Nazr Mohammed had his way inside, and Boris Diaw made a mockery of former defensive player of the year Marcus Camby. Even Jackson didn't do too poorly, looking more relaxed on the court. Raymond Felton did a solid job of containing Baron, and Rasual Butler looked like his old timid self, eventually scoring a season-low 11 points. Al Thornton (a.k.a. Sir Bricksalot), had a 3-11 night, and was featured prominently in the third quarter.

We entered the quarter down six points, and that deficit got as high as 13 before Butler hit a three. Dunleavy decided to give his stars a breather, and that proved to be the turning point. Ricky Davis, who already had 6 points, sunk a three, then Telfair took over. The 5'10" guard scored on six consecutive possessions, and almost singlehandedly willed us back into the game. With two minutes left and a two point lead, Dumbleavy opted to finish the game with a small-ball lineup of Baron, Bassy, Ricky Davis, Thornton and Camby.

DJ Augustin made his only shot of the game, a huge three on the ensuing possessions, and after that it was back-and-forth. With 40 seconds remaining and us up one, G-Farce turned it over, yielding a fastbreak dunk by Baron. After a missed three by - you guessed it - Stephen Jackson, the Bobkittens resorted to intentional fouling. While one of their desperation threes went in, they fell short, 98-95. It is our first win of the season at home, and first game in which we held our opponent under 100 points.

With the win we improve to 2-3. The fact that are only wins were very close ones against the Knicks and Bobcats is rather discouraging though. Our next game is once again at home, against the 1-4 New Orleans Hornets. Rumors have been circulating about a potential Chris Kaman for Tayshaun Prince swap. Kaman has been quoted in the past as saying he wouldn't mind a trade to Detroit. Kaman currently averages 10.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Prince averages 9.1 PPG and 5.1 RPG.

Down 10 with seven minutes to go, Dunleavy thought it would be a good idea to put our bench in. It actually was. Bassy exploded, leading the Clip Show on a 15-4 run, and ultimately scoring 16 of his season high 21 points in the final period. "We forgot to scout him," opposing point guard DJ Augustin said. "I thought he was still on the Timberwolves". This is the second instance of a Clipper role player having a huge game under the radar, the first being the now fading Rasual Butler.

We have Stephen Jackson to thank for this victory. Jackson was cold all game, but that didn't stop him from shooting it. The former Warriors Captain (more like craptain... yes, you can hit me) and teammate of Baron took a myriad of bad shots, bringing down Charlotte's field goal percentage, and ultimately being the difference maker. Somewhere, Don Nelson is laughing.

Pistons And Clippers In Kaman Trade Talks
Chris Kaman for Tayshaun Prince Being Discussed

December 12, 2009 - After a fairly rough start to the season for both Chris Kaman and the Clippers, trade talks involving the seventh year center have reignited. Kaman, 27, has recently been quoted as saying he "wouldn't fight a trade to Detroit". The Pistons, 4-3, have had a fairly decent start to the season, but have been shopping Tayshaun Prince, who has been having his worst season since his rookie year, averaging just 9 points and 5 rebounds.

Ben Gordon has complained about his sixth man role, averaging a career low 21 minutes per game, and the Pistons would be likely to shift Richard Hamilton to the starting SF position. Ben Wallace has been having his best season since his last campaign with Detroit, averaging 5.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, but at age 35 is an injury risk and likely to retire after this year. A 27 year old starting-caliber seven-footer would be a major asset for the kind-of-rebuilding Pistons.

We have a frontcourt rotation of Kaman, Marcus Camby, Craig Smith, DeAndre Jordan, and at times, Al Thornton. With Blake Griffin's impending return, its about to get even more crowded. Kaman, who still has three years and 33 million left on his contract, may not fit into our long-term plans. When healthy and motivated, Kaman has been superb at times, enjoying a career season in 2007-08, with career highs of 15.7 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. However, he played just 30 of 82 games last season, and is averaging just 10.4 points and 7.8 rebounds this season. Probably not worth the contract.


Chris Kaman could be traded for Tayshaun Prince
Furthermore, the small forward position continues to be a liability for us, with Al "Sir Bricksalot" Thornton averaging 8.8 points and converting on just a third of his shot attempts. Its time to move him to the bench where he belongs. Prince is a four-time second team all-defense, and former NBA champion. Prince would be an excellent mentor for our young players, and if motivated, our best defender (sorry Camby, you just haven't been delivering). This season, Kaman's PER is currently 12.7, while Prince's is 14.4.

Due to his age (29) and declining production, Prince has lower trade value than Kaman. Perhaps we might get lucky and get either a pick of a prospect out of this deal as well. Knowing Dumbleavy, it would probably be us coughing up a pick or prospect. I won't be complaining to much if its Al Thornton though.
