Nets part ways with Frank, Hires Skiles as Head Coach
06/23/10
The New Jersey Nets have decided to part ways with Lawrence Frank after his contract
expired at the end of this season. Former Bucks coach Scott Skiles has been named the
new Head Coach of the Nets in a multi-year deal, general manager Toni Kukoc announced
today.
“Scott is a proven NBA head coach who has shown an ability to win,” said Kukoc. “He was
a passionate player at all levels of the game and that thirst for success has served him well
as a coach. We look forward to what he will bring to this franchise and we welcome him and
his family to New Jersey.”
Skiles, 45, has amassed an overall record of 315-299 (.513) as an NBA head coach, which also
includes stints with the Chicago Bulls and Phoenix Suns. He was hired as head coach of the
Bulls on November 28, 2003, and inherited a 4-12 team. Following that season, he went on to
guide the team to three consecutive seasons of better than 40 wins (45.7 average) and three
postseason appearances, which followed a six-year playoff drought for Chicago. The Bulls won
49 games in 2006- 07, their most since going 62-20 in '97-98, and swept the defending NBA
champions Miami Heat in the first round of the 2007 NBA playoffs.
Lakers appoint Lawrence Frank as new Head Coach
06/23/10
Lawrence Frank's job hunting did not last long, in fact, just hours after the Nets announced
that he was to be released from head coaching duties, he got the call from Lakers GM Mitch
Kupchak.
"We feel that Lawrence has what it takes to be potentially a very solid replacement for the
great Phil Jackson." said Kupchak "We are glad to be able to add a coach of his experience,
youth, and potential to our organization. We hope that he will be able to lead the club towards
new heights and to get the franchise the championships we desire."
Houston, Charlotte hires rookie head coaches
06/23/10
The Houston Rockets and the Charlotte Bobcats have both announced the hiring of their new
head coaches, which is of course great news for the franchises after their respective ones
had gone into retirement.
The problem is, no one has ever heard of them before.
Bryon Wooden is set to be the new head coach of the Houston Rockets, while the Bobcats will be
led by one Peter Black.
Rockets GM Daryl Morey declined to comment, while Bobcats owner/president of basketball operations
Michael Jordan had said that he sees 'Hall of fame coaching potential" in Black.
'He has what it takes" said Jordan "I'm very confident that he'll deliver, and down the line, 20, 30 years
from now, he'll be mentioned amongst the all time greats. I have no doubts about that"
Thierry. wrote:I'm certainly not jumping on "Frank @ Lakers" bandwagon.

For the hiring of Skiles. I don't like him. But preaching defense is not that bad since D wins Championships. I hope he can hlp you.

Will Sit
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 195
Age: 22
Position: PG
College: North Carolina
Projected: Top 5
Overall: A-
Potential: A-
Strengths: Tremendous Athletic Ability....Good playmaking instincts....Good shooter....Can get to the rim at will and finish
Weaknesses: Too much of a ball hog at times....Little or no desire to rebound the ball....No post play at all
NBA Comparison(s): Deron Williams, Steve Nash
Comment: Will Sit, the Australian Born Chinese (ABC) Tar Heel product, is the second best point guard prospect in this draft behind the highly publicized John Wall. The 22 year old is a terrific scorer, able to get his own from just about anywhere on the court, he's fast, quick, and has great instincts on both ends of the court. A highly confident character, Sit had grown up watching Kobe Bryant play, and had emulated his moves over, and over again, eventually making them his own. Although some had complained that he is a ball hog at times, he gets the job done, and if the game is on the line, you would want someone of his ability to take the final shot. He does need to work on his point guard skills, as he will be playing the 1 in the NBA due to his mere 6'4" height; but the kid has tremendous potential and will be a star for years to come. Sit averaged over 20 points a game in his 2 seasons with North Carolina.
Martti Must
Height: 6'9"
Weight: 245 lbs
Age: 21
Position: PF
College: Arizona
Projected: Lottery
Overall: B
Potential: B+
Strengths: Tremendous Shooter from anywhere on the floor....Decent Rebounder....Able to contribute right away and has great potential
Weaknesses: Not much athletic ability....Not much of a passer....Very slow and sluggish movements
NBA Comparison(s): Dirk Nowitzki, Rashard Lewis
Comment: Arizona's Martti Must is from Estonia, and will become the second Estonian to play in the NBA ever. Standing at 6'9" and weighing around 245 pounds, Must comes with a sweet shooting stroke as well as having decent rebounding ability. He might not be quick, but he's a pretty good defensive player as well. Must had worked his whole life in order to get to this point, and it had paid off, as he shined for the Wildcats in his lone season in the NCAA, averaging 17.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting over 40% from behind the 3 point line. There has been concerns with the lack of athleticism that Must has showed, but he plays with great effort and intensity out on the floor, always giving his all in every game, even when it's blowouts. Must's efforts will certainly be rewarded come draft night.
Thierry Tirieux
Height: 6'8"
Weight: 250 lbs
Age: 20
Position: SG/SF
College: Argentina
Projected: Lottery
Overall: B-
Potential: A-
Strengths: Freakish Athletic Ability, Jumps out of the Gym....Fantastic finishing ability at the rim....Decent playmaker....Good shot mechanics, could be improved....Great potential
Weaknesses: One of the worse defenders in the draft....Very bad rebounder for his size....Cannot handle anyone in the low post
NBA Comparison(s): Vince Carter, Lebron James, Shannon Brown
Comment: He watched Manu Ginobili's successes in the NBA as a child, and ever since then, had worked towards the goal of meeting Ginobili in the NBA as a fellow player. Standing at 6'8" and 250 pounds, Thierry's game is very much different from Manu's game. You could say that Tirieux is a European Vince Carter or LeBron James due to his specular hops and finishing ability. Tirieux gets to the rim at will, creates contact, and finishes. The 20 year old has spent 4 years with the Argentina National Team, and has recently been selected to represent Argentina in the 2012 London Olympic Games. He does, however, need to work very hard on his defensive game right now, as it is almost non-existent. He also needs to go and get some rebounds, because with his vertical leap, he should be getting much more then the 1.7 per game averages that he has been having in the Euro League over the last few seasons.
Carl Cruz
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 245 lbs
Age: 20
Position: PG
College: Philippines
Projected: Lottery
Overall: B-
Potential: B
Strengths: Great playmaker....Good Potential....Very unselfish player, always looks to pass....Decent mid-range jumper, could be developed
Weaknesses: Major defensive liability in the low post....Has no hops whatsoever....One of the worse rebounders in the draft....Has a lack of any kinds of low post play
NBA Comparison(s): Steve Nash, Bob Cousy
Comment: A Philippine Native, Carl Cruz is an excellent pass first point guard that blazed his way through the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) last season, averaging 20.1 points,11.2 assist per game and 1.9 steals per game. It is unlikely that he will have that kind of production, or anywhere near that kind of production in the NBA, however, sky's the limit for Cruz, as he is still very young and has a great basketball mind to absorb anything taught to him. Teammates love his pass first mentality and he is very good at running a team offensively. Coming Draft Night, Cruz will make history as the first Philippines basketball player to be drafted into the NBA and become the first ever to be a NBA player.

Bucks get lucky bounce, obtains 1st overall pick
They got robbed by the Minnesota Timberwolves and 'only' came away with the second overall pick in the '09 draft lottery (which they spent on Ricky Rubio, not bad huh?) and so they 'earned' themselves the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft with a 19.9% chance of obtaining it, edging out Miami and their 25% chances. The other picks were of no surprise, as they went accordingly to the lottery odds.
It is unclear at this point of whom Milwaukee would pick, Kansas Center Hakeem Bol is clearly the best player in the draft, however, the Bucks might pick based on needs and select Dukes' 6'7" versatile forward Patrick Lynch, who is not that far a drop off talent wise compared to Bol. One thing's for sure, John Wall is not going to be a number 1 overall pick this season, as the Bucks have Ricky Rubio, and had declared that they would not trade this pick away.

Nets pick up options for Williams, Mills
The New Jersey Nets have announced that they will pick up the
team options that were available for forward Sean Williams and
guard Patrick Mills, announced general manager Dennis Rodman
earlier this evening.
Yao Ming had also picked up his player option, which means that
3 out of 4 of the options for New Jersey were picked up, leaving
the issue-filled Bill Walker as the lone man to be declined and
sent to Free Agency.
Williams, now in his 4th NBA Season, was the recipient of the Most
Improved Player award last season after averaging 6.9 points per
game, 8.9 rebounds per game (2.8 offensive rebounds), 1.6 blocks
per game, as well as 1.4 steals per game on a team high .602 field
goal percentage. Williams played all 82 games of the season and started
on 49 of those, averaging almost 25 minutes per contest.
Australia's Patrick Mills was drafted by the Nets with the 33rd overall
pick in the 2009 Draft. In his rookie season last year, Mills averaged
6.9 points per game and 2.5 assists per game in limited minutes,
coming off the bench behind star Devin Harris. Mills has shown plenty
of potential, and thus the Nets have now picked up the 2nd year team
option that they hold on his rookie contract.
New Jersey Resigns Mbenga, Snow. Lets go of 6 others
The New Jersey Nets have announced the resigning of Center/Forward
DJ Mbenga and veteran guard Eric Snow, announced general manager
Toni Kukoc this morning.
This means that 6 of the Nets' 8 expiring players would hit the free agent
market. They include Anthony Parker, Josh Boone, Joey Dorsey, Bill Walker,
Anthony Johnson, and Walter Sharpe.
Both Mbenga and Snow were resigned to 1 year deals.
Eric Snow had previously stated that he would retire after the playoffs, however,
after the good performance that he exhibited during games 5 and 6 of the Eastern
Conference Quarterfinals against the Orlando Magic, the Nets management plead
for Snow to resign with the team and go for one more season, eventually, Snow agreed.
