Nets come up short in OT against Bryant, Lakers
Image

Los Angeles, CA - Nets rookie Leo Lai may have blocked the best player in the world and dropped a layup to send the game into overtime at the waning seconds of regulation, but once overtime started, he and the rest of the New Jersey Nets could do absolutely nothing to stop the Lakers.

Two time reigning MVP Kobe Bryant scored 29 points, and had 8 rebounds as well as 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 35 minutes of play to lead the defending champions over the visiting New Jersey Nets in overtime, 94-87.

Jordan Farmer had 18 points and 9 assists, while Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom each had a double double, 12 points and 11 rebounds for Pau, 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Candy Man. Jeff Green added in 7 points and 7 rebounds for the Lakers while second year player Sun Yue came off the bench for 4 minutes and registered 2 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 block.

It was a tightly contested game, with a ton of defense played, as both teams shot in the 30s, with the Nets being 30% and the Lakers 36%. There were a combined total of 115 rebounds, 17 steals, and 18 blocks between the two teams, and only a total of 13 fast break points as each of the teams went to the line for more then 20 times.

"This was just a regular season game, but it felt like a postseason game 7 from the way that both teams played," said Lawrence Frank, head coach of the Nets "They really stepped the intensity level up and showed us why they are the defending champs"

For the Nets, Yao Ming had another specular performance with 21 points, 20 rebounds, and 3 rejections while Devin Harris dropped in 19 points, 7 assists and 2 steals. Sean Williams had another dominating defensive game, with 6 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

As mentioned above, Nets Leo Lai tied the game with 3.4 seconds remaining on the clock shortly after blocking Kobe Bryant on the other end to send the game into overtime, the rookie had 14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 24 minutes off the bench, he was 6 for 12 from the field, one of the few players who shot .500 or above in tonight's game, the others being Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Yao Ming, Joey Dorsey, Sun Yue, and Luke Walton.

However, once in OT, Bryant took over; scoring 8 of his game high 29 points in the extra period, the Black Mamba made sure that the Nets are down, and out.

"There's a reason why Kobe's the MVP, and y'all saw it tonight" said Lai after the game "I've got a long way to go"

Mbenga is still working his way into Lawrence Frank's rotation, and has only been scoring garbage points in the forms of layups thus far, but i'll be sure to post a pic up if he does throw it down  As for the song, i have no idea also, it's one of 2K9's default songs, i didn't mod anything

Note to Readers

As y'all might have noticed i haven't updated in a while, this is due to the recent busy schedule that I have both in and out of the classroom. So i am going to announce a small hiatus in this Association, be assured that I will come back and continue this for at least 1 more season, if not 2.

When i return (in like a week or perhaps more...) i guarantee a big and juicy march recap :)

Thanks to all those who follow this!

D-Wade is pissed there, i doubt he'll resign (or maybe he will...you never know)

Cheers bro
to be precise, 4 players from each conference
but yes, everyone is being 'consistent' in their game, meaning that the same players are the best every single time...which kinda sucks lol

Shaq to retire at season's end
04/12/10

Image
On September 12th, 2008. One of the 50 greatest players ever, the most dominating force ever, and of course, a future Hall of Famer; Shaquille O'Neal of the Dallas Mavericks (then with the Phoenix Suns) had predicted his retirement two years later. Unfortunately for the NBA, Shaq is true to his word.

"I said it two years ago, I'll play out my contract and hang 'em up" O'Neal said "That's what i'm going to do. I've had a great run in the league, had a lot of success and made my mark, it's time for me to move on. This season, whether i can win another ring or not, will be my last."

O'Neal, who was drafted by the Orlando Magic but has since played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, and of course currently, the Dallas Mavericks, has career averages of 23.4 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 2.4 apg, 0.6 spg and 2.2 bpg over 18 seasons in the NBA; He is a 4 time world champion, 1 time MVP, 3 time Finals MVP, a former rookie of the year and a 14 time all-star. O'Neal established himself as one of the most, if not the most dominating center ever in the game of basketball.

"Being an educated man, I've always had things to fall back on. One of my options is, of course, law enforcement." said O'Neal when asked upon his future plans

O'Neal has long had an interest in law enforcement and went through the training with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Reserve Academy before becoming a reserve officer with the L.A. Port Police.

Boston Clinches best record
04/12/10

After a 98-75 victory against the Atlanta Hawks for their 6th straight victory, the Boston Celtics and their Big Three of KG, Pierce, and Ray Allen have clinched the leagues best regular season record with 2 games left on the schedule. By far the best in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics stand at 57-23 and will either face the Hawks or the Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.

"We had a disappointing playoff run last season, failing to defend our championship, but this year we are ready to take it all back again" said Celtics head coach Doc Rivers "the guys are ready and motivated, and we are playing great basketball right now"

The only possible challenge to their league best record is to have it tied with the LA Lakers, who currently are 55-25 with 2 games left; If the Cs drop 2 straight and the Lakers win both games, they would be tied and the Lakers would have home court advantage in the finals due to them winning their regular season matchups.

"It ain't gonna happen" said Kevin Garnett "we ain't gonna drop 2 straight, Kobe can dream all he wants, but home court is ours, so is that trophy"

It's a good thing to see Shaq retiring rather than sign with the Bucks or Clippers or any sucking team. Boston being that good is also quite realistic.

Nets demolish Knicks in regular season home finale
Image

East Rutherford, NJ - So much for a heated rivalry. It seemed like it was more of a shoot-around rather then a game yesterday night as the New Jersey Nets casually crush the visiting New York Knicks, 140-99.

Led by Devin Harris and Yao Ming, the Nets were clicking on all cylinders both offensively and defensively, holding the Knicks to 41% shooting while shooting at 55% as a team, including 6/12 from beyond the arc, and converted on 24 of 26 free throw attempts. New Jersey out-rebounded the Knicks big time with a 60-30 rebounding edge (+30) as well as a 50-21 bench points differential. 7 Nets scored in double figures and all 12 players scored in the game.

Yao led all scorers with 23 points, as well as 15 rebounds and 2 blocks in just 27 minutes of play while Devin Harris received Jordan Player of the Game honors after a 19 point, 14 assist, 5 rebounds performance in the same amount of playing time. Sean Williams added in 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists in 28 minutes, whereas the other two starters Luol Deng and Anthony Parker contributed 17 and 18 points respectively.

Rookie Leo Lai and former 3rd overall pick Adam Morrison combined for 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench while Josh Boone had an all-round performance with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and a career high 7 assists.

"After dropping 2 very winnable games, I am glad that the guys picked up the effort and got this big win" Nets coach Lawrence Frank said after the game "All that's left is to finish off the season on a strong note in Chicago and get ready for the postseason"

For the Knicks, Chris Duhon and Al Harrington led the way; Duhon finished the game with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 16 assists, but was a miserable 8 for 28 from the field while Al Harrington had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, going 10 for 19. Larry Hughes added in 12 points and 7 assists, Gallinari had 10 and rookie BJ Mullens dropped in 12.

But beyond that, the Knicks had nothing going.

"Their defense was just too much for the guys tonight" said Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni "they smothered our guys and we just didn't shoot well when we finally got those looks. Defensively, we just couldn't stop them, the effort that we had was disappointing, i expect much more then getting out-rebounded by 30"

The Nets are now 44-37 and will go off to Chicago for their regular season finale while the Knicks drop to 31-50, good enough for 12th in the Conference and one step closer to the fated ping pong balls.

8 from 28 by Chris Duhon? Well, that's where the 40 points you crushed the Knicks by came from.. That seriously is a flogging, superb game!
