Playing with Default roster without tweaking is possible!

Postby Babolhos on Thu Dec 12, 2002 11:41 am

 like everyone else, at begining i was shocked by the cpu play in Live 2003. I try all tweaked roster, try made my own one, but it was still too dificult or too easy.

After some time i decide to try the default roster again, and what a hell i just got 3 fantastic games (10 min / supertar) ORL 113 x 112 CLE; DEN 103 x 106 ORL; ORL 108 x DET 111 OT.

Well i realised thet i had learned playing with tweaked roster (slower game play) how to avoid fast breaks, how to defend CPU, and with original speed i was able to defend against cpu (none of those games CPU shot best than 50%)

I was gething 10(of) -30 (def) rebounds a game.

I realised that is all about defense. Just go there and play is not enough.
You have to use diferent defenses during the game, defensive math to put best defender against best players, and let the worst cpu shooter with no pressure (so he will take some shots and miss)

Use hand up, thake charges, distribute the ball on ofense, ...
The speed of the game actualy helps on defense.

This game is great with no tweaked. I belive everyone must give a try on default roster and see if it was or not a matter of learning to play with default roster.

i play with the original roster too. i use 9-min quarters, and everytime i play my goal is not just to win the game, but to hold the opponent below 100 and below 50%FG.

i tried tweaking. but i expect from my tweak a perfect sim, as in a realistic 12-min game. but i havent achieved that. sure rebounds are better and more misses, but i achieve those sometimes in the untweaked roster, so i decided to stick with the original.

the key is playing D. as you said.

I guess you guys have a point.
Previously, games was designed for the beginners because games that are too hard frustrates them.
They make it easy so people won't be turned down too early. After a while, as gamers get better at playing, games tend to become ridicously easy. (especially the sports games where AI is limited)
So what EA is doing nowadays (i suspect) is that they tune the game to produce realistic results when *they* play. Note that by the time the game is out, testers at EA should have played the game thousands of times. Eventually they made the game that is quite difficult for the beginners but as the gamers progress, it becomes more realistic and stays competitive enough to not become too boring.

Also, it is part of their attempt to make defense more challenging (and interesting?). Now we must put as much effort as we do on offence, if not more.

I play with untweaked as well. 9 min quarters and am getting realistic scores and fg%. (Well, I can hold the CPU to under 50% but I'm still shooting around 55%.

Blocks are too easy. I'm getting around 20 per game as well.

I might just have to tweak the jump rating a little for these blocks. Other than that, I like it better untweaked.
