2K10 has a lot of great things. In-game saves, improved graphics, better menus, my player mode (which ate up probably 100 hours of my time), et cetera, but as it stands, is a failure. Far too many glitches - unprofessional for it to have been released as such.

Glad to see there is still some interest in this. Just need to play one more game before the next recap is ready.

Warriors Report: January 1-January 11

January 12, 2009, 11:09 PM - The first few games following star Monta Ellis's death have been difficult. They looked like they just might be okay after an amazing comeback victory to open the new year. However, three straight losses and an injury to Ricky Rubio followed, and now it looks like the Warriors may be in trouble. After leading by nine at halftime, the Warriors fell apart in the final two periods and suffered an embarrassing home blowout loss courtesy of LeBron James and the Cavaliers. This was followed by a loss in which they were walked all over by the Rockets' twin towers of Yao and Bosh.

The month concluded with the Kings serving up some home cooking to the Warriors. In the thirty point loss, Ricky Rubio, who has been outplayed by Steve Nash as of late, suffered a strained achilles. The injury will keep him out until early February. This move will mean the reinstatement of Nash at the starting point guard position. It remains to be seen who will be his backup, though it is likely that Rudy Fernandez and seldom-used new signing Salim Stoudamire will play some minutes at the point. Anthony Randolph has averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds since the new year, and looks to replace Monta Ellis as the team's full-time franchise player. The Warriors finish the month with a record of 19-15, good for seventh place in the Western Conference. However, the 9th place Thunder are now just one game behind them, at 20-18.

Note: We apologize for the photos for both Kings games. Our photographer was sick, and took the photos off his television set. He seemed to have not realized the lamp was on in the background. Whoops.

Sacramento 115 @ Golden State 121 (OT) - All heart. The first game following the untimely death proved disastrous at first. Don Nelson, for unspecified reasons, did not coach, and assistant coach Ben Bailey's unconventional lineups saw the Kings dominate the first half. Finally bringing in Andris Biedrins at the half, the team gained momentum to go on a scoring tear to bring the lead within single digits. Getting the crowd into it, the Warriors took this momentum into the second half, but wouldn't be able to catch Sacramento until the end of regulation. Kevin Martin had the ball with 12 seconds left and his team up 3. Stephen Jackson played lockdown D on Martin, and Rudy Fernandez came in for the double team. Martin passed out, but it was picked off by rookie Rubio. Rubio tossed it up court to Jackson for an open three pointer, which he sunk at the buzzer. After that, it was all over. The Warriors walked all over the Kings in overtime to pull out the win.
Player Of The Game: Anthony Randolph (25 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists) | Nelliepoints: 1. Randolph (25/12/2); 2. Jackson (18/4/6); 3. Nash (19/1/9)
RECORD: 19-12

Cleveland 98 @ Golden State 82 - At first it looked like the Warriors would take the momentum from the win over the Kings and defeat the Cavaliers. A six point lead after one, followed by nine at the half, The Warriors had held LeBron to ten points by intermission. Unfortunately, he took control in the third, as the visiting team outscored the Warriors 30-11. Anthony Randolph failed to get going, and the fourth quarter proved more of the same, as the Cavs took it 98-82. LeBron had a triple-double with 28-12-14, and also had 4 blocks. Steve Nash had an excellent game, but it wasn't enough.
Player Of The Game: LeBron James (28 points, 12 rebounds, 14 assists) | Nelliepoints: 1. Nash (25/2/8); 2. Morrow (18/4/2); 3. Randolph (10/10/3)
RECORD: 19-13

Image Image

Houston 114 @ Golden State 103 - Anthony Randolph had a season high 7 assists to go with his 16 points and 8 rebounds, but that was the only thing worth celebrating about this game. Yao had a season high 29 points, while Chris Bosh chipped in 22 and 8 as the Rockets outclassed the Warriors, handing them their second consecutive defeat. Houston had control the whole game, leading by 8 after the first quarter, and 12 at halftime. While the lead never ventured out of reach, the Warriors did not lead a single minute of the game.
Player Of The Game: Yao Ming (29 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks) | Nelliepoints: 1. Randolph (16/8/7); 2. Nash (23/2/4); 3. Biedrins (9/13/2)
RECORD: 19-14

Golden State 104 @ Sacramento 134 - Revenge was sweet for the Kings. After suffering a heartbreaking loss a week before, the Kings won the first quarter 35-22. That lead swelled to 67-35 and the home team never looked back. The dynamic duo of Kevin Martin and Carlos Boozer combined for 49 points, while point guard Kirk Hinrich had 18 and 11 assists. Midway through the second quarter, Ricky Rubio was fouled hard and tore his achilles. He is expected to be out three weeks. The second half consisted of dueling shooting guards Rudy Fernandez and Anthony Morrow, on at the same time and mimicking the Kings' Princeton offense. Fernandez got the better of his younger, reserve counterpart, scoring 22 to Morrow's 18. and getting 6 assists along the way. The loss tied the season series, and allowed the Kings to leapfrog the Warriors into a tie with Denver for the fifth seed.
Player Of The Game: Monta Ellis (31 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds) | Nelliepoints: 1. Fernandez (22/2/6); 2. Randolph (19/8/4); 3. Morrow (18/2/1)
RECORD: 19-15

The Hornets and Bobcats, both in the middle of mediocre seasons (with records of 16-18 and 17-20 respectively) are attempting to improve their fortunes by swapping Centers. The trade does not seem to make sense from the Bobcats' point of view other than change for the sake of change. Chandler is paid more, and posts worse stats across the board. Perhaps something we don't know about soured the Bobcats on their franchise player. The Hornets meanwhile, hope to get out of their rut and back into the playoff race. With Okafor they are arguably better than they were last year. At 16-18, the Hornets are two games behind the surprising Grizzlies for the eighth seed in the West.

Wizards Win Nailbiter As Warriors Suffer Fourth Straight Defeat
Wizards 105, Warriors 103

Oakland, CA; January 13, 2010 - After controlling most of the game, the Golden State Warriors were defeated by the Washington Wizards 105-103. The Warriors, hot on the heels of three straight losses, came home determined to get back on track. The Wizards meanwhile, have been suffering another losing season, but had won three consecutive games and were trying to maintain that momentum. The Warriors may have dominated the highlight reels, but in the end the Wizards came out victorious.

A tightly contested first quarter saw the Wizards take an early 30-26 lead thanks to Randy Foye's 11 first quarter points. A pair of early fouls for Steve Nash put Rudy Fernandez in the point guard spot for some time. The second quarter saw the Wizards start to pull away, until a pivotal timeout turned the tide. Stephen Jackson and Fernandez got to the foul line at will and led a 22-7 run to put the Warriors up three points at halftime.

The Warriors' momentum continued into the second half, despite Anthony Randolph's lack of impact. Golden State's lead got as high as twelve. Gilbert Arenas, who has been struggling with his shot all game, sunk a pair of threes in Steve Nash's face, putting the Wizards within striking distance going into the final period. The fourth quarter saw the Warriors struggle to hold off the opposing team. Despite Randolph's increased presence, Washington got back in it with a pivotal Randy Foye trey. Stephen Jackson, who had been the Warriors' best player up until that point, twisted his ankle on a botched layup attempt and would miss the rest of the game.

After that, the game was back in forth. Anthony Morrow, who despite playing a season high 29 minutes, struggled the first three periods, sank consecutive three-pointers to put his team up two with 44 seconds to go. A bad foul by Rudy Fernandez sent Gilbert Arenas to the line for points 32 and 33. Seconds later, Arenas sank the game winner on the Spaniard's watch. "As a whole, I thought I did fairly well guarding him. I mean, he shot under forty percent after all. When I saw he had 35 points after the game I couldn't believe it". With no timeouts remaining, Fernandez would airball a long three-point attempt to end the game.

Arenas was named the JORDAN Player Of The Game, scoring 35 points, including the game-winner, and also dished 6 assists and racked up 3 steals. Anthony Randolph and Stephen Jackson led the losing side in scoring with 19 each. Rudy Fernandez had 16 points and a season-high 8 assists. Andris Biedrins had an impressive line of 14 points and 9 rebounds, but did so on fairly erratic 7-16 shooting. Randy Foye finished with 19 points and 5 assists, while Antawn Jamison was the only other Wizard to notch double figures in scoring with 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Wizards win their fourth straight and improve to 14-23. They now trail the Bobcats by just three games for the eighth seed. The Warriors meanwhile, slip to 19-16, and seventh in the West. They are now 1-4 following the death of Monta Ellis.

Chase never really had a place in the rotation as the roster was pretty stacked when we had Ellis. He will probably get more time though - at least while Rubio is out since Morrow will be spending most of his time at the 2. May trade for swingman help if the slide continues though. Thanks for following. :)

What does everybody think of the recap? I really like the way it looks myself. Its like my Craptors/Flying High template except more refined and taking some influence from Sit's. I'll be posting a couple of these for every game month among the normal recaps. No idea how I will balance them with the normal 4 game recaps though. Hmm...

Arenas was definitely feeling it. I guess that he cannot be defended for the whole game. So even though his shooting was down, he had goddam 35 points. Tough that Captain Jack had to leave the floor but day-to-day is good news. Good luck in your next game.

|---THE WARRIOR ZONE---|

Warriors Report: January 15-January 19

January 20, 2009, 11:09 PM - The good news is that the Warriors managed to snap their four game losing streak by easily dispatching the dismal Jazz. The bad news is that they would go on to lose their next three and fall to 20-19. Without rookie point guard Ricky Rubio, the Warriors have gone 1-4, and 2-7 since Monta Ellis's death. The Warriors looked extremely gutted in their blowout loss to the Blazers. It even led Stephen Jackson to criticize the team's sudden lack of depth at the SF position. "Chase [Budinger] just doesn't cut it. We need Anthony to play the 3 more or acquire a more reliable backup. I can't play 40 minutes a game anymore", the veteran swingman and team captain said. Budinger has yet to respond to this.

Additionally, yet another loss in the final minutes - this time at the hands of the Nets showed their lack of a leader in the clutch. Additionally, guards Devin Harris and Brandon Roy had huge games on the Warriors' watch, showing that Ricky Rubio's return could not come soon enough. Rubio is expected to return in early February. The month closed with a demoralizing blowout loss in Boston. Now just a half-game ahead of the ninth place Mavericks (21-21), playoffs look far from certain. The key will most definitely be Anthony "Meal Ticket" Randolph.

Image Image

Golden State 103 @ Utah 85 - The Warriors needed to play Utah. Starved for a win, Golden State was able to cruise to an easy victory in Utah. Deron Williams had an excellent game, notching 21 points and 14 assists, but he was the only one. Anthony outclassed the opposing team's Randolph (Zach) by scoring 13, dishing 5 assists and most importantly: grabbing 17 rebounds. Steve Nash also matched Deron's contributions, getting 23 points and 9 dimes. Anthony Morrow continued to get ample playing time, and made the most of it, scoring 19, and making the case for a starting position. With the win, Golden State improved to 20-16, helping them stay afloat... for now.
Player Of The Game: Anthony Randolph (13 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists) | Nelliepoints: 1. Randolph (13/17/5); 2. Nash (23/2/9); 3. Morrow (19/4/2)
RECORD: 20-16

Portland 110 @ Golden State 92 - People criticized the Blazers' decision to blow up their roster after coming within a game of defeating the eventual NBA champions, and for good reason. The Blazers have been fairly inconsistent this season, despite Brandon Roy's excellent chemistry with Danny Granger. However, games like their match against the Warriors make a good case for their rebuild's effectiveness. The defensively improved Charlie Villanueva shut down Anthony Randolph, and the 2-3 punch of Roy and Granger combined for a triple double of 46 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. It was never close as the Blazers improved to third place in the West, while Golden State fell to seventh. Rudy Fernandez had 11 points against his former team.
Player Of The Game: Brandon Roy (25 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds) | Nelliepoints: 1. Nash (15/6/9); 2. Biedrins (13/9/0); 3. Fernandez (11/5/5)
RECORD: 20-17

Image Image

-
Golden State 87 @ New Jersey 88 - What a heartbreaker. The Warriors recovered from an 11 point fourth quarter deficit to lead by three with less than a minute remaining, but it was all for naught. The battle between the two borderline playoff teams was intense all night. Vince Carter and Anthony Morrow had an on-and-off scoring duel, and there were 19 lead changes in total. When it came down to the wire however, the Warriors blew it. Rudy Fernandez, now known as a terrible clutch defender, allowed Carter to both win his scoring battle with Morrow (20-18) and tie the game with a trey. Stephen Jackson would sink a pair of free throws to put the visiting side up two, but a miracle three-point play by Devin Harris with 2.4 seconds to go gave the Nets the lead. Nash airballed a jumper as New Jersey escaped with the victory, and the Warriors fell to just two games above .500. Carter, when asked about rumors of a potential trade to the Magic said "I love it here in New Jersey and wouldn't mind retiring here. If they decide that it's best to retool and acquire a younger shooting guard, that's their decision and I'll respect it."
Player Of The Game: Devin Harris (31 points, 8 assists, 4 steals) | Nelliepoints: 1. Morrow (18/8/1); 2. Randolph (13/11/2); 3. Jackson (16/6/3)
RECORD: 20-18

Golden State 75 @ Boston 101 - What a disaster. Boston dominated from the start, winning the first quarter 30-14, and never looked back. The second and third period saw the Warriors attempt to keep the game from being quite out of reach, but the Celtics pulled away in the fourth, and the Warriors finally let their bench play when the deficit hit 24. Paul Pierce dominated in the win, scoring 26 points on efficient 11-18 shooting. Rajon Rondo also had a near-triple-double with 13 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds. Rookie Chase Budinger on his first game in Boston: [i]"And I thought we had a good following. The atmosphere was absolutely insane. Its no wonder, with fans like that, that they are by far the best team in the league. The Celtics improved to 35-7, while the Warriors feel to 20-19, holding the eighth seed by a half game.
