Talk about NBA Live 10 here.
Sat Aug 22, 2009 3:17 am
Hello community,
with the Gamescom 2009 (Europes biggest Game Conference) in my town I was able to play NBA Live 10 Demo today and record it with my cam.
I hope the quality is good enough to give you quite an impression of what the Demo will look like.
Gameplay is really awesome, the physics feel more realistic than ever and the animation looks real good. I think EA took the game to a new level compared to last years version. Playing defense is fun and challenging.
While watching please keep in mind that this was our first game (my brother played vs. CPU). When you get used to the control system it's great to play and we had some very good games. AI acts a little dumb sometimes but I'm confident sliders will get the job done.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I will give my best to answer them. All in all I'm really exited about the game. It will be hard for 2k sports to top that.
Here's the link:
Enjoy!

I have one:
I'm a huge basket ball fan and longtime Live fan. I will admit the last two years I have cheated on Live with 2K. I am going to go back if the demo impresses me this year. My biggest thing besides the gameplay (which can be controlled with sliders) is presentation and dunks. I CANT STAND when a dunk looks fake. I guess my first question is do the dunk packages look believeable?

For sure they do. You can see a typical Bynum dunk in the first quater of the game - Offensive rebound and throw down like he did a lot of times last year. Later on you can see a alleyhoop Fisher to Gasol which is also quite realistic.
It's not very easy to dunk in the game which I think is good. We had some typical two hand throw downs in Howard style in one of the following games. So I can answer you're question "Yes - dunk packs looked very believable allthough I can only judge on a few we saw in the demo! if the rest of the game will be like that (and I don't know why it shouldn't) you'll be fine!"

Thanks for the info brotha. At work....hehe and this info is keeping me going till I get home to view the youtube vids. Another question just to keep this thread going. How would you say the overall feel of player movements and gameplay compare to last years edition? Can you also elaborate on presentation? Did you see pregame rituals? New player animations that stuck out to you? Thanks!

player movement and gameplay feels very good and it's definitely fun when you get used to the controller. you control special dribbling moves with the right analog stick and that's what it makes kind of easy and fluid to navigate your player. I thought EA integrated some stuff that already was part of the 2k9 game like animations after fouls and when Bynum dunks in the face and stuff like that. The presentation of the starting 5 is cool because they have the original ABC presentation where all players are put together and it looks like a collage. Pregame animations also looked good allthough I think there're only special animations for the teams superstar like Dwight Howard joking around and having his big smile.

Before the game do they should the outside of the arena? We saw this in a video on Dwight Howard's Twitter.

Yes we saw the Staples Center. But its a static image not a 3d animation. I think they did that in Madden this year but I'm not sure.

by the way, did you notice many new lay up animations? i saw kobes running, double clutch shot, anything else like that? tear drops, etc.?
Sat Aug 22, 2009 7:26 am
Honestly I can't say because last year I switched over to 2k9 and it's been a while since I played Live 09. I won't say something wrong so better leave that open because especially with layup-animation it's hard to say from playing a few games.
What I did notice was that it feels very real in terms of collision detection and spacing to dribble into the crowd.
Dribbling into traffic with the basketball will result in a adjusted low percentage shot as you can see in the vid quite a few times. I think my bro did it with Kobe a few times. You have to have a good and clear path to the basket to start the layup animation so that is something that features realistic gameplay in my opinion a lot.
Hope that helps!

yeah, thats always been a problem with the series. thats good to hear.
how about shots hitting the back of the rim for the long rebound? that was completely missing from last years game.

nba live 10 will pwn 2k.

Well, they worked on rebounds this year that's something you realize immediatly. We saw that in an earlier official EA vid, players tip the ball to themselves or a teammate. As far as I remeber I haven't seen any long rebounds like when a player misses a three and the ball bounces back close to the 3 point line. I don't know if it's in the game at all.
I want to say some words about the 'hustle play' feature. I heard and read some concerns that these kind of anmations might be a little overdosed and I can say that this is really not the case. They implemented that feature in a very smart fashion. Sometimes players try to save a ball from going out of bounds. We saw Ron Artest trying to do that but he was too late and the refs called it Magic ball. But you don't see always the same animation. They go for those plays in let's say different degrees of motivation related to how realistic it is to actualy save the ball.
It's really nice to see that AI has improved a lot in important categories.

Thanks for the video!
Looks great, I think I'll be making the switch this year, as long as I like the feel of the demo.

You're all very welcome!
I've been a user of this site and all the great Live patches since quite a few years.
I hope to give something back with this vid.

You can fix that with slider settings. Please remember that this was our first game and we were just eager to play and didn't care about any sliders though I'm a big fan of tweaking the game with slider adjustments.

horry,
Great video man! What difficulty were you playing on?
Glad you enjoyed it!

The graphics from a small resolution video made the players and gameplay look cartoonish. I also think that the game should be slowed down a little bit

I don't know for sure but I tend to say that it must have been the easiest level (is it Rookie? - I honestly don't know). Otherwise we wouldn't have won the game right from the beginning.
Though it's just a demo you can see some analogies to real NBA. The Lakers play a lot of inside game with Bynum/Gasol combinations. And that's what's won them the title last year (great post-up move by Gasol with the fade-away jumper).
Definitely a great game. Being a developer myself I know how hard it is sometimes to implement certain gameplay features.
This year I will play Live 2010 anyway!

Yeah don't judge from that small video - it's just to give an impression. Speed issues meanwhile might be a matter of taste. I guess we played at '50' which felt quite realistic in my eyes.

player models are horrible just terrible this year, it truely looks like a NEXT-GEN version of nba live 04, but the attitude of the arena and gameplay looks really great especially the Attitude. Players on the bench and the crowd seem to be moving at a great framerate but on court models are terrible...

I have a question can you specifically tell us what had happened before the tip off and if you know if the demo show the pregame warmup?
