haha, i guess i am leaning on supporting the chinese national team as well since NZ isn't known for their basketball and to be frank, i don't know much about the Tall Blacks in detail either, over in NZ growing up, i was watching the Super 14, the All Blacks, the Black Caps, and the All Whites

Slovenia Upsets Germany, Team USA Cruises

TURKEY (AP) – Washington Wizards PG Klemen Pirc led Slovenia to a 76-75 upset over Germany, who had been undefeated up to this point. Germany had a formidable lineup of Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Kaman, Chris Hova, and NBA prospect Florian Ruf. Pirc did it all for Slovenia as he finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. His pass to Detroit Piston Sasha Vujacic set up the game winning basket.

Sorry for not posting a long time, but this... this is just awesome Reminds me of the last European Championship and our narrow wins over Italy and France, especially over Italy =P Can you tell me, who else is in our group?

Chapter 23

Raja Bell shook hands with Sit. His agent did the same and the three of them got up to leave the office. Jason Kidd and David Lee were in the foyer outside waiting for them. Everyone would be going out for a lunch to get to know each other.
“It’s a shame that Kevin is trialing with Team USA right now,” Sit said to Bell, “I would have loved you two to meet up.”
Bell nodded in agreement before sharing a small conversation with Lee, whom he played with for a half a season in New York. Bell had agreed to sign with the Stealth for the midlevel exception after Sit had rushed to resign Sebastian Telfair and Adam Morrison to new contracts. He would announce all of it at the press conference, due to be held in three days time.
After lunch, Sit went back to the office and called Joe Johnson’s agent, “I’m sorry, we’re not interested in Joe anymore.”
After a series of curses because Johnson’s agent had severed all of his client’s ties with the Hawks, Sit hung up on him. That’s for wasting my time, Sit though, He should have agreed earlier. Johnson would wind up signing with the Utah Jazz and that amused Sit, He’s going to regret passing up on us. The press conference introducing the Stealth’s newest recruit went well with Bell promising to be the perfect complimentary player alongside Kevin Durant.
Sit, though, had higher hopes for him, “I believe that Raja Bell can be that second option that we have always need. His shooting and defense will really help our team.”
Ariza, Morrison, and Telfair were also unveiled to the media and the trio reveled in the limelight. This could be the year the team would make it to the NBA Finals. Team captain Jason Kidd was on hand to praise his manager’s signing and stated that the whole team was ready for training camp.
“I’ve gotten you your starting shooting guard,” Sit said to Coach Karl as the audience dispersed from the room.
George Karl shook Sit’s hand, “I’m confident about our chances.”
Sit replied, “So am I.”

Yao Ming was conducting a podium interview as New Zealand’s Andrew Watson slipped past waiting media. Watson, usually soft-spoken, had given a fiery speech to his team mates in the dressing room. He was to take the podium after Yao was finished but Watson was not eager to be up there. That was why he wanted to get co-captain Mark Moore up there. Watson pushed past staff and walked out towards the change rooms. He bumped into his Nuggets team mate Carmelo Anthony who had come down to watch the teams play. Team USA had won the night before.
“Hey Melo,” Watson tapped him on the back.
Melo turned around, “Hey X. Tough break.”
“I know,” Watson shrugged, “Good luck against Slovenia.”
“Hey man, give me a message if you’re still around in town after the gold medal game.”
Watson raised his right hand and gave him a slight salute, “Will do.”
Watson continued and found a shirtless Moore lying on a bed, “How’s the knee?”
“Will get there,” Moore grunted.
“I don’t want to do the interview.”
“Me neither.”
“Who are we going to get to do it then?” Watson asked.
“Let’s just not go man,” Moore didn’t care because they had just been knocked out in the quarter finals.
The two of them ended up boycotting the interview, causing the media to wait for 15 minutes, and earning New Zealand a large fine. Their coach was not very happy.

Klemen Pirc was being schooled out on the floor as Chris Paul was seemingly running circles around him. Slovenia was down big and it looked like their fairytale tournament was quickly coming to an end. Moses Chara shot another three and it was a swish. He ran up to Sasha Vujacic and said something offensive to him. Vujacic got the ball and tried to go one on one against Chara but the taller and lankier forward blocked his shot.
“You got nothing woman,” He yelled at Vujacic in reference to his long hair, “Cut your hair woman!”
Vujacic was fuming but he could not do anything as his coach reminded him about the ejection of Spain’s Marc Gasol. Chris Paul pushed the ball down the floor at a blinding pace. He flipped a quick pass to LeBron James who caught it and jumped off to feet and slammed down a ferocious jam. James ran up the floor and high fived Paul. Chara came over and patted both of them on the back.
“Team USA baby! We show all you fools how to play!” Chara yelled into a TV camera as Slovenia called a time out.
Chara was still jawing into the camera as Coach K had his players in a huddle; Chara was flexing his biceps, “You want more of this? Oh yeah, the United States of America baby!”
Coach K yelled at Chara, “Moses! Get in here!”
Chara turned around and ran into the huddle. Kevin Durant, Jay Gray, and Kobe Bryant all shook their heads at Chara’s immaturity. James, Paul, and Chara all sat off for the rest of the game as Team USA cruised to make the gold medal match.

The United States would advance to meet China in the gold medal game. The Chinese shocked everyone after dealing a 76-53 blow to Argentina. Yao Ming had been the player of the tournament thus far while Mingyu Li and Wu Jao had been revelations for the national side. Li was a 7 foot big man with a nice shooting stroke from beyond the arc. Jao was a 17 year old prodigy, about to move to America to play for Maryland in the NCAA. Yi Jianlian looked impressive as he played the bulk of his minutes at small forward and the team still had Wang Zhizhi, Sun Yue, and Chen Jianhua. China’s time on the big stage had arrived but no one predicted them to make the final match of the tournament. Unfortunately for China, the gold medal match was nothing but a blowout in Team USA’s favor. The Americans piled up the points and reached a tournament high total of 132. Moses Chara once again led the way for the Americans with 20 points. Yao Ming scored 37 and drew cheers from the pro-China crowd; Moses Chara had actually made the Americans the most hated team at the World Championships.
“Team USA baby!” Chara was yelling as the final buzzer sounded, “All you are haters! Haters!”
Durant scored 15 points in the most minute he had played all tournament. He savored the feeling of winning gold. Jason Kidd had told him that winning gold at the 2000 and 2008 Olympics were special and Durant now understood. He thought to himself, I want to get this feeling with Seattle.

The summer had been rewarding for all of the Stealth players. Durant was in fine form for the NBA pre-season after his stint with Team USA. Playing with the NBA’s elite had opened his eyes up. Jason Kidd’s conditioning was better than ever as the veteran guard spent a lot of time working on his fitness. Telfair, Morrison, Ariza, Lee, Bell, and the rest of the team were excited about a new season. Despite a losing pre-season, the young Seattle Stealth side was in high spirits.
Sit looked on as the team practiced in the team’s new sports stadium, “This is it Vince. This is the year we’re going to win it all.”
The team’s board was very pleased with Sit’s progress as team manager. The senior stakeholder had told Sit that he was in good position to receive a bonus or two at the end of the 2010-11 season.
“ This is the good life man,” Sit raised his glass to toast Vince, “This is to the Seattle Stealth man.”
Vince tipped his glass against Sit’s and the two drank to a successful year for Seattle. Thompson then told Sit some interesting news.
“Did you hear man?”
“Hear what?” Sit asked in reply.
Vince stated, “Our old mate…”
Vince paused and Sit urged him to continue. He was curious.
“… Gary Payton is back.”

Well, that's how much he wanted. He had a lot of competitive offers from other teams. Bell is my second option from here on in. A challenge I am sure he will relish. When you have a 30 ppg scorer in KD... and he may push 33 ppg this season... Bell a second option scoring around 18 ppg seems about right.

And you were the one barracking for a return for GP... so I hope you're happy he's back!

To Kevin Durant. Why? He flew to Vegas for summer league even though he wasn't playing, sat on his team's bench every day, cheered his boys on, dispensed advice during timeouts and everything else you'd want from your top gun. All signs point to Durant becoming one of those galvanizing, personable, Duncan-like leaders for the Zombie Sonics. Love it. Couldn't be happier about this. Our one-sided bromance continues to be in full bloom.

My fictional Durant is completely opposite... hmmm

China Upsets Argentina To Make Final

TURKEY (AP) – China continued on its surprising roll through the World Championships with a resounding 76-53 win over Argentina. Argentina struggled after Luis Scola was ruled out of the semi final match. Yao Ming was dominant for China as he recorded 21 points and 13 rebounds.

“We just had a bad day,” Manu Ginobili said.

The Chinese have benefited greatly from the improved play of their guards Chen Jianhua, Sun Yue, and new comer Wu Jao. In recent years, the team struggled due to poor playmaking but thanks to Yao’s urge for ‘fresh blood’, the Chinese have built a formidable team to contend for a medal at the 2012 Olympics.

In the other semi final, Team USA was led by Chris Paul’s 16 points. The 2008 NBA MVP locked down on defense against Slovenia’s Klemen Pirc. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Carmelo Anthony all reached double figures. Moses Chara added 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Argentina Beat Slovenia For Third Place

TURKEY (AP) – Argentina were feeling bitter that they did not make the grand final and took it all out on Slovenia in a 83-55 win. Luis Scola was cleared to play and had 34 points. Manu Ginobili added 28. Slovenia got off to a slow start and never seemed to recover. Sasha Vujacic led the side with 25 points.

“It’s a shame that we lost to China in the last game,” Ginobili told reporters, “We had a very good shot at winning gold.”

United States Blitz Chinese In Gold Medal Match: 132-96

September 12, 2010

TURKEY (AP) – Team USA proved its class as all of its players scored in the final game. Moses Chara led the US with 20 points, ably supported by Dwyane Wade’s 18 and Kevin Durant’s 15. The United States finished with a tournament high 132 points in a high octane finale to their tournament.

To further fuel flames in the basketball world, the arrogant Chara stated that China did not deserve to be in the Final. He added, “Well, perhaps Spain was our toughest challenge but if they are second best in the world then they are pretty far behind (us).” The Sacramento Kings star turned his back as China’s Yao Ming was named as the Tournament MVP.

Ming finished the match with 37 points and 8 rebounds. He was gracious in defeat and afterwards announced that he would retire from international basketball. He stated that the Chinese team was in safe hands with Yi Jianlian and NBA-bound Mingyu Li.

Chinese 17 year old PG Wu Jao struggled and finished the game with 2 assists and 7 turnovers but was showered with praise from Chris Paul after the game. “He’s (Wu) a good kid and a pretty damn fast player. I think a year or two (In America) will prepare him for the NBA,” Paul stated. Wu Jao was recently awarded a scholarship to play at Maryland.

Yao Ming Named Tournament MVP

September 12, 2010

TURKEY (AP) – Yao Ming averaged tournament highs of 24.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg, and 3.5 bpg for Tournament runners up China. He was awarded Tournament MVP ahead of the likes of LeBron James and Moses Chara.

A panel of coaches, sportswriters, and tournament organizers also voted and assembled two All-Tournament Teams, which are as follows:

All-Tournament First Team: C Yao Ming (China), F Luis Scola (Argentina), F Moses Chara (United States), G Manu Ginobili (Argentina), G Klemen Pirc (Slovenia)

Rubio: Will Opt For 2011 Draft

TURKEY (AP) –Spain’s Ricky Rubio announced that he will indeed opt for the NBA Draft when his contract expires with Spanish giants Barcelona. Rubio, who was expected to be in the 2009 Draft, was named on the Tournament Second Team yesterday. He led the Tournament in assists with 9.4 per game and also added 1.8 spg. Spain dropped out of the World Championship in the quarter final round.

With the 2011 Draft looking to be a weak one, Rubio’s inclusion looks certain to make him the surefire first overall pick. Rubio is 6’5”, 175 lbs and many consider him as too weak and frail to play in the NBA. However, his awareness and ball handling capabilities make him an intriguing prospect. His jump shot is still weak but many scouts have overlooked that as he is described as the consummate team mate.

USA won and that's what important.

Would've preferred a medal but 2nd team is solid effort. Can't match up to Pero Cameron's 1st team effort at 2002 World Championships in Indianapolis though
