We have over 500 new pairs of shoes in the game this year, and we're partnering with all of the apparel companies in order to really nail what their shoe switch-out is going to look like. We have all the player-specific shoes this year and really nailed that aspect. We're also partnering with Mitchell & Ness and Adidas to bring back all of the retro jerseys. Having all of the alternate jerseys, from the St. Patrick's Day uniform to just the regular third jersey, all add a lot.
Another aspect is the new hangar you see when you first boot up the game. Last year, you started at the practice venue, but to me, that just doesn't get me excited to play basketball. Allen Iverson said it best about practice, so we wanted to change things up. When you get to the new hanger, you can work on your game with the best athletes of the NBA. You can figure out the controls right there against the best, and that's the kind of thing that really resonates with me.

The way the size-up mechanic works, you actually have a hidden meter where the longer you use the size-up, the more likely you are to blow by your defender. Conversely, the risk/reward is if you're guarding someone who is using that size-up mechanic, you're more likely to steal the ball from him.
"The other part of that is the attention to detail with the authentic arena sounds and crowd reactions. We're really trying to nail those nuances you get in every single arena. If you go through each team, you'll find little things that you'd expect to hear at that venue, like the Ric Flair call-outs for the Hornets. Our audio is extremely tight this year.

"In terms of the player intros, you have Dwyane Wade, who pulls himself up on the hoop before a game. You have KG. doing something similar to LeBron with the chalk. And if you play a playoff game set to playoff atmosphere, we have different intro sequences that also showcase various stars and their personalities."

"This year, the Synergy stats will dictate how guys shoot in the game. Everything from how guys shoot the ball when they're open, to how they shoot the 3, to how they shoot off the bounce, to how they shoot when they're contested, to how they shoot from the post. All of that stuff is based on data from Synergy Sports, and our ultimate goal is to remove all subjectivity from our ratings. I don't want some producer or designer to be the one to make the call on how good Kobe shoots the ball and whether or not a shot should go in. I want to use all of Synergy's data in as many areas as possible.
Having authentic team sets for what I think is the first time ever in a basketball video game is really important as it helps capture the various team styles of play. Teams that push the ball in transition will now push the ball in transition in 'Live.' Teams that walk the ball up the floor and use a lot of shot clock will perform like that in the game.
