With Rubio's emergence it looks like the backcourt might have gotten a little more crowded...

Lamrock wrote:Yeah, Rubio is doing better than expected. After I develop his 3pt shooting into the competent range (75+), I'll likely insert him into the starting lineup. With Nash and Ellis you have two defensive liabilities, but with Rubio and Ellis, you have them swap defensive assignments and it works great. Ricky's height and defensive ability make him the best prospect on the team.

so you are going to bench Nash :?: :scold:

oh btw, how did you make the Jefferson trade for the cpu??
i want to make the real offseason moves in my association too, but can you trade for the cpu?? :?

Put myself into the three team deal and swap second rounders with one of the teams. I have trade over-ride on as well to make sure they work.

Warriors Report: Nov. 25-Nov.30

December 1, 2009, 2:14 AM - One month down, 5 to go. The Warriors had an interesting week, losing to a pair of mediocre teams, but putting out exciting wins against good ones. Sound familiar? The Warriors came into Oklahoma City expecting to destroy the Nonics, but were blindsided by their improvement. Kevin Durant dropped 47, and the Warriors were dropped 112-102. Going into Portland was a grim prospect, and it looked like they would return to .500. However, an amazing fourth quarter comeback and Monta Ellis game winner got them the W. The Warriors improved to 10-7 with an easy home win against Dwyane Wade and the Heat. Unfortunately, the month ended with a buzz-killing overtime home loss against the Toronto Raptors.

Monta Ellis continues to establish himself as the franchise player with nifty averages of 22 points and 5 assists. Rookie Rubio is on the verge of earning a starting spot with his strong play and defensive intensity, as Steve Nash has been a slight disappointment. Corey Maggette has been occasionally brilliant, but could be on his way out (more on that later). Stephen Jackson has been his old crazy Captain Jack self. On the final game of the season, Anthony Randolph scored 3 Nelliepoints to get into the top 3 for the month. Finally, Andris Biedrins hasn't been scoring much, but has been doing his job on the boards, averaging 11 a night.

Golden State 102 @ Oklahoma City 112 - The Oklahoma City Thunder were a joke last year, and despite the additions of Ben Gordon, Channing Frye and Hasheem Thabeet, the Warriors did not see them as a serious threat. That was a mistake. This year's Thunder mean business. They are ready to win now, and they showed it. The Warriors opened the game with a 34-28 first quarter advantage, but after that, it was all OKC. Kevin Durant caught on fire, and none of the Warriors players could contain him. He went for 47, and the Thunder cruised to a 112-102 win.
Player Of The Game: Kevin Durant (47 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) | Nelliepoints: 1. Ellis (25/1/4); 2. Jackson (19/3/5); 3. Rubio (13/4/7)
RECORD: 8-7

Golden State 96 @ Portland 95 - Wow. What a game. The Warriors entered the Rose Garden as major underdogs, but came out victorious. The Blazers won the first quarter 28-19, led by Danny Granger's 10. The Warriors fought hard in the second to close the lead to 4 at the half. the Warriors managed to tie the game at one point, but the Blazers ended the third on a 10-2 run. Entering the fourth down 10, the Warriors showed heart. A pair of Stephen Jacksonm threes got them back in the game, then they managed to keep it close from there. With 6.2 seconds left in the fourth and the score reading "Portland 95, Golden State 94", Monta Ellis sunk a midrange jumper in Raymond Felton face. Ricky Rubio sealed the win by stealing the inbounds pass on the final play.
Player Of The Game: Stephen Jackson (25 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds) | Nelliepoints: 1. Jackson (25/4/6); 2. Ellis (19/3/6); 3. Randolph (13/8/4)
RECORD: 9-7

Image Image

Miami 92 @ Golden State 103 - The Warriors returned to the Oracle and dispatched the Miami Heat with relative ease. The Warriors won the first quarter 28-21 and stayed in control of the game the whole time. Daequan Cook came off the bench to score 19 and kept his team in the game with his three point shooting, but in the end, the Heat could never make a run, and the Warriors cruised to a 103-92 win. Jermaine O'Neal sprained his ankle in this game. He had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 fouls and 3 turnovers, missing out on a Voskuhl by a hair.
Player Of The Game: Stephen Jackson (24 points, 5 rebounds) | Nelliepoints: 1. Jackson (24/5/0); 2. Biedrins (13/15/4); 3. Ellis (20/6/2)
RECORD: 10-7

Toronto 119 @ Golden State 115 (OT) - The first overtime game of the season ended in heartbreak for the Warriors. After defeating the Raptors handily in Toronto, the Warriors seemed shoe-ins to defeat them at home. However, Jose Calderon and Tracy McGrady wanted revenge. Led by T-Mac's 20 first half points, the (C)raptors took a 57-45 lead. Golden State came back in the third to bring it within 2. The fourth quarter saw the teams trade baskets. The Warriors looked like they had it, up 107-104 with 4.5 seconds to go. Trevor Ariza sunk a buzzer-beater 3 to force overtime. The Warriors opened the OT period with an 8-2 run, then would not score again, as the Raptors played lockdown D to win the game and end Golden State's month on a sour note.
Player Of The Game: Tracy McGrady (34 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) | Nelliepoints: 1. Randolph (20/7/6); 2. Ellis (24/4/5); 3. Jackson (20/4/5)
RECORD: 10-8

7. Ricky Rubio: 3

Pacific Division Standings:

East Player Of The Month: LeBron James (28.6/7.5/7.1, Cavs: 10-7)
West Player Of The Month: Kevin Durant (26.5/5.4/3.8, Thunder: 14-5)

West Rookie Of The Month: Jrue Holiday (8.7/3.5/7.9, Suns: 8-12)

Rumor Mill

Despite having a winning record, trade rumors have been circulating. The center of most of these have been Corey Maggette. Maggette has averaged 14 points per game off the bench this season, but has been inconsistent, inefficient, and reportedly fallen out with Coach Nelson. Reportedly, a three team trade is in the works, involving big man Ronny Turiaf and disgrunted Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez. The proposed trade is as follows:

Golden State: G Rudy Fernandez, C Joel Pryzbilla (expiring), C Mark Blount (expiring) for F-G Corey Maggette, F-C Ronny Turiaf, G Marco Belinelli, 2010 first-rounder
Portland: F-C Ronny Turiaf, G Daequan Cook, 2010 first-rounder (GSW) for G Rudy Fernandez, C Joel Pryzbilla
Miami: F-G Corey maggette, G Marco Belinelli for G Daequan Cook, C Mark Blount

This deal will give the Warriors 17 million to work with this offseason, and give them an excellent young player in Fernandez. They lose size, and would likely need Rudy to play the 3 for this to work, but it works well overall. The Blazers get rid of a disgruntled player, and get a shooting guard who can also shoot the lights out, but will demand less playing time in Cook. They also get a scrappy big man in Turiaf. The Heat simple trade scraps (an expiring, a role player) for another scorer to put next to Dwyane Wade while Michael Beasley develops.

Tell me what you think about this trade, Warriors fans!

I'd definitely do it. Getting rid of Maggette's horrid contract while getting a young guard like Fernandez is always a plus. I think Belinelli is a somewhat similar player to Fernandez but I don't think he'd get the minutes to develop as long as Maggette is there..

I don't know about the trade - of course maggete's contract is awful and he can really be a ball hog, but he can also be pretty good 6th man and giving up teams soul Turiaf, Belineli, and a 1st rounder for just fernandez and 2 expirings. I don't think it's worth it ;)

Maggette is older, gets paid far more and his overall is a point lower than Rudy's. Belinelli never plays, while Darko and Pryzbilla can fill Turiaf's spot. Not to mention, 17 million in the 2010 draft class!

Month In Review: November 2009

Points For: 104.6 (7th) | Points Against: 106.0 (26th) | Differential: -1.4 (18th)

The first month of the Warriors' season was a generally successful one. They are currently in the playoff picture, Ricky Rubio has been playing well, and the team's chemistry has adjusted swimmingly to the new additions. Of course, a 10-8 record is not worth getting excited about, because it is a long NBA season, and are only 2 games ahead of the dreaded ninth place.

The Warriors started the month off slow, losing two of their first three, but picked it up midway through the month thanks to a pair of back-to-back victories, and always answering defeats with wins. Perhaps the highlight of the month was a thrilling victory in Portland, which showcased clutch offense, as well as clutch defense, and set the conference rival back to 7th place. A nightmarish blowout loss in Staples Center not only destroyed the Warriors' win differential, but showed just how far they were from contending.

With an average of 22.4 points per game, Monta Ellis could very well be the first Warrior all-star in over a decade. Not to mention, he is shooting an amazing 55% from the field, and 47% from three. Worth the contract. Additionally, sophomore stud Anthony Randolph is having a breakout season, and looks like the clearcut favorite for the NBA's most improved player award. Growing an inch and adding bulk in the offseason, Randolph has developed into a star.

Veteran Steve Nash and rookie Ricky Rubio have been fighting for minutes at the point guard position. With neither player satisfied, Nellie did what he does best and created more. Nelson's super-small lineups of Nash - Rubio - Ellis - Jackson - Randolph have been used more and more commonly as of late. Rubio's numbers started very unimpressively, but with his increase in minutes and role, should continue to grow over the course of the season.

The Corey Maggette-Rudy Fernandez (and role players) trade is looking close to a done deal. This means more small ball and an even younger team. Hooray? The Warriors not only get a young star, but will also have seventeen million dollars in cap at their disposal this offseason! This 2010 offseason could be a reshuffling of the league, and the Warriors look in prime position to capitalize. Who knows? Maybe we come back next year with a Chris Bosh, an Amare Stoudemire or maybe even a LeBron James...

Fernandez Heads To Bay Area, Maggette to Miami In 3 Team, 7 Player Deal

Oakland, CA; December 2, 2009 - Liam Washburn is beginning to get a reputation as a three-team guru. After getting Ricky Rubio and expirings from Memphis and Minnesota earlier this season, the Warriors GM is back with another. Young Spanish combo guard Rudy Fernandez, and expiring centers Joel Przybilla and Mark Blount are headed to Golden State. Scorer and sixth man of the year contender Corey Maggette and Italian sharpshooter Marco Belinelli will become Heat. Finally, the Blazers get big man Ronny Turiaf, three=point champion Daequan Cook and the Warriors 2010 draft pick.

Golden State deals a guy who never plays in Belinelli, an overpriced but vital part of their roster in Maggette and Turiaf, a big man who has been fighting Darko Milicic for minutes with neither player being satisfied. In return they get a fantastic swingman that can shoot the lights out, score efficiently and make plays. They also replace Turiaf with Przybilla, one of the best backup Centers in the league, and an expiring contract. Blount is also an expiring who will likely sit on the IR or get waived. In this deal, the Warriors get the best player in the deal in Fernandez, as well as 11 million in freed up cap room for the fabled 2010 offseason. This isn't a perfect deal however. The Warriors have a crowded backcourt already with Steve Nash, Monta Ellis and Ricky Rubio, which means the 185 pound Fernandez will need to spend much of his time at the 3. They also lose a first-rounder in the good 2010 draft class.

Rudy Fernandez wanted out of Portland for a while. Playing behind Brandon Roy, he received less than 20 minutes a game. In Cook, they get a lower-maintenence backup who can shoot just as well (as evidenced by his victory in last season's three point shootout. He doesn't have Rudy's offensive arsenal or underrated defensive abilities, but he is likely a more logical fit. The Turiaf acquisition works twofold. Not only does it fix the backup Power Forward dilemma (Chuck Hayes is 6'6" and terrible), but it also helps solve the toughness issue. Though they took the Lakers to seven games last year, their toughness was questioned. GM Kevin Pritchard was criticized this offseason for making a blockbuster trade, right after this young team nearly won it all last season. As good as Danny Granger is, this trade is far more logical than trading away the team's best prospect (Greg Oden). They also get a pick out of it, in a strong draft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Image Image Image 1st
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Image Image Image

The Heat have had an awful season so far. Dwyane Wade has been brilliant as usual, but he has had to carry the entire load. Michael Beasley is not a factor, at least yet, while Jermaine O'Neal is a mere shadow of his former self. Maggette is a guy who can put up 20 PPG if you want him to, and can take the pressure off Wade. The cost is backup shooting guard Daequan Cook and expiring contract Mark Blount. No problem. They also get Belinelli, who is almost as good as Cook, making it essentially a Blount-Maggette trade for them. This trade might not make them contenders, but it is a great deal to help keep Wade happy, and get them to the playoffs. They were very lucky to get in on this deal.

Overall, the Heat look like the winners in this trade. Maggette may be expensive and use up a lot of possessions, but he is just what the Heat need. However, there are no losers in this trade either. The Warriors get an excellent young player in Fernandez and a ton of cap savings. Portland gets a draft pick, a scrappy big man and solves the Fernandez dilemma. This season we have seen several blockbusters already just a month in. Is this a new NBA trend, or a coincidence? Time will tell.

Golden State Trade Grade: B+
Portland Trade Grade: B
Miami Trade Grade: A

Nice presentation (Y)
I like the trade because you got Fernandez. However, I don't like the idea of giving up Maggette. But, of course you know this team better than me

One question: Why did you do it? 10-8 seems good to me. Or did you make this trade for the cap room?

Thanks Calamaro. I made the trade because while 10-8 is good, its far from contention. I like Anthony Randolph and Ricky Rubio, but I don't want to put all the chips on their development, so I opted for cap space so I can get an established star in 2010. Also, Darko is one of my favorite players, and Turiaf was stealing all of his minutes. Tip of the iceberg is that it rose my team's overall rating a couple points.

I also really like Fernandez.

I like the trade for you and the Heat. Also, 10-8 is good as you don't have the best team in the world.

PS : Check out my Heat dynasty.

HAHAHA! Damn Lamrock, you always manage to write some pretty funny chapters. I guess you're done with the Raps already? Meh, they do get boring to play with after a while... and that's coming from a fan! I nearly went Anyway, great job getting Rubio and Nash. Though I figured you would have Nash coming off the bench a la veteran mentor to Ricky. Nevertheless, the team is doing great! And the association is looking sharp! But I have to say that the Bosh-McGrady trade, Blake Griffin-Olawakandi similarities in production and Rajon Rondo being an MVP candidate have me wondering if your 2K was a bootleg. ;)

Thanks for stopping by Skillmatic! Yeah, the Raptors got boring to use. I had already mapped out how the dynasty would play out in my head, so I got bored of it quickly. Good think I had a power outage. heh...

Glad you like the association. Rubio is probably about to get the starting nod since Monta has a hard time defending opposing 2 guards. The trades in this game suck. Rather than undo them, I made follow-up deals to balance them out, but Bosh-McGrady is still retarded. 2K's sim engine isn't kind to rookies. I was bored and decided to sim to 2015 and John Wall posted career numbers of 6 and 5. :P

Are you stopping by or making a full-blown comeback Skillmatic?
