Their previous album was actually "Catch Without Arms", which was already showing signs of going slightly more mainstream.
But the two albums before that, "Leitmotif" and "El Cielo" are absolute masterpieces in their own right. I'd recommend the "Symbol Song" or "Yatahaze" from the 1st album, and maybe "Sanzen" and "Of The Room" from El Cielo. That whole album is perfect in every way for me, so it's hard to recommend any song in particular. The wikipedia pages for both Leitmotif and El Cielo also explain a lot behind the concepts used for both albums.
