Oh man how can you loose both games at home and then win two in a row on the road. Good job anyway. Wilcox showed some value .. The Celtics are waiting.

Wilcox surprised everyone when he sank three jumpers that were closer to the three point line than mid-range.

The hell? Chris Wilcox couldn't hit the broad side of a barn two feet out.

Portland Kick It Into Higher Gear

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Brandon Roy (7) spots up for a wide open triple

22 May, 2010

SEATTLE (AP) – Kevin Durant watched on as the Portland Trailblazers put on a clinic out on Seattle’s home court. And this was not out of want either; it was because he couldn’t do anything else. Seattle looked like it just did not belong this late in the postseason as Portland pulled out an impressive 43 point drubbing.

Brandon Roy led seven other players in double figures with 18 points. The next best players were sixth man Jerryd Bayless and rookie Quinn Person. Bayless had 18 while Person drew wild celebrations from his team mates by scoring 15. Steve Nash explained, “Quinn is usually on the sideline jumping up and down and we have to get him to settle down. We tell him it’s going to wear him out so tonight when he was playing well – we just had to return the favour.”

Durant was terrible as he scored just 12 points on 3 for 14 shooting. Travis Outlaw once again guarding Durant well. David Lee was Seattle’s best player with 24 points and 9 rebounds.

“What can I say?” George Karl addressed the media, “We just got our backsides kicked.”

Nate McMillan was over the moon for his team, “We definitely showed everyone that we are here because we’ve earned the right to be here. Everyone was so surprised about us knocking out the (Denver) Nuggets and even the (Houston) Rockets. I can tell you now that we have a championship caliber team.” He also preached for his team to not be complacent, “It’s not time to pull our feet off the pedals, we have to go in for the kill and we need to play like we did tonight. With confidence and also respect for our opponents.”

However, if Portland did not respect Seattle, they could be forgiven after their huge Game 5 win. Seattle took a quick 4-0 lead but were subsequently outhustled, outclassed, and seriously outscored by their stronger and quicker opponents. “Portland were just really switched on and motivated,” Stealth PG Jason Kidd said, “We came in on a high after winning Games 3 and 4. We did not focus on our goals.”

Four consecutive alley-oop dunks jumpstarted a 17-4 run in the middle of the first quarter and Seattle did not stand a chance when they could not execute even when they were forcing turnovers. The second quarter saw Seattle decrease the deficit to 10 points before Portland went on another scoring tear. That ended with Brandon Roy’s three point play with 3:00 left in the second quarter. Roy’s spinning layup and free throw pushed the score up to 47-26; a 21 point lead.

Roy and the Blazers were so good that none of the starters had to play in the second half. Portland’s bench were not sloppy as all as they scored a combined 56 points compared to 14 from Seattle’s bench. “Solid play from both the starters and the bench,” Roy said, “We played a complete game tonight. Defensively and offensively, our team was just many levels higher than where Seattle was.”

The Blazers cruised to an easy victory and are just one game away from reaching the NBA Finals.

Notes: The Miami Heat forced a fifth game against the Boston Celtics. Dwyane Wade had 26 points and 13 assists as he led his team to a 118-101 win. Kevin Garnett finished with 25 points and 15 assists. Miami trails in the Eastern Conference Finals 1-3… Portland shot 64% (47/75) compared to Seattle’s 33% (23/68). The Blazers stopped Seattle from scoring in the paint; the Stealth had just 28 compared to the Blazers’ 58…

Ouch... Their leading scorer didn't even need to score 20, that just goes to show how badly you were hurting from all angles. I'm expecting that Durant and co. will come back hungrier for game 6. There's no way in hell I'd be able to live with myself if I were to get shit stomped for 2 games in a row to lose a series.

wow...that's all i could say
33%...i am assuming you need better shot selection...and looking at those alley-opps that were mentioned...better defense in the passing lanes
hope ya force a game 7 bro (Y)

Oh man ... tough loss. Even the Rookie hurt you. I hope you can turn things around one more time .. but the Blazers squad seems to have a little bit of everything + chemistry.

Looks like my prediction is looking good. It will go the full 7 games (Y)

Tough luck, looks like David Lee is only player who showed up (sounds like a Knicks game).

Damn, both my predictions going down the crapper. Heat also not winning in six, most likely not winning at all.

What happened? :D On your home court.. Get that road win as it is common in this series and win that game #7 at home!!

Rip City Is Back In The NBA Finals

Preview | Box Score | Recap

The Signings of Steve Nash (9) and Carlos Boozer (35) have
paid dividends, Portland advanced to the NBA Finals

24 May, 2010

PORTLAND (AP) – The Portland Trailblazers picked up from where they left off, continuing with their shutdown defense and fast flowing offence in Game 6. After a thrashing of the Stealth in Seattle in Game 5, the Blazers toyed with their fellow Western Conference finalist en route to racking up 45 first quarter points. Seattle never recovered from the Blazers’ dominant display and promptly dropped out of the playoff picture.

Stealth coach George Karl lamented his team’s defeat to a lack of experience as well as brawn. “Portland were just simply much stronger than we were. Physically and mentally, my team was beaten by a better side. That’s basketball.” Karl was furious after Game 5 and looked embarrassed in the first quarter of Game 6. He was smiling again at the end of the game when reflecting on the past season.

“I would say it’s been a successful season,” Karl stated, “We have a lot of young pieces in this team and I think to an extent, we did overachieve. I’m sure my guys will be a lot more focused next season and now it’s up to the front office to keep the roster intact. We have potential to be like Portland.” George coached Blazers coach Nate McMillan during their Seattle days in the 1990s and the elder coach congratulated his former protégé on the victory, “It’s a bit hard to swallow the fact that the Stealth were knocked out by a team coached by someone as revered and loved as Mr Sonic. Nate deserves it, he’s a great coach and a great man.”

McMillan stated that he felt a bit bad for knocking out his old coach from the playoffs but also revealed that it was a proud moment, “Whenever you beat someone you respect so much, it’s always going to be bittersweet.” The Blazers advance to face the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. The Blazers did a remarkable job getting through the minefield known as the Western Conference without home court advantage. Their reward now is to play 4 of the 7 games at home. “It goes to show how important the regular season is,” McMillan said, “We had one more win than Boston. This could be the difference between the championship and coming second.”

Stars Steve Nash and Carlos Boozer both celebrated the Blazers win; the two of them joining the team over the Summer to create a formidable lineup for Portland. Nash reflected on the season, which started off with the team struggling and being under .500, “Everyone expected Carlos and I to come in and lead this side to 55 wins and I thought we could as well. But I guess it took longer than expected for us to all gel and bond as a team. We’re lucky that we’ve just started to get into it at this point of the season.”

Kevin Durant blamed his health as a reason for his side dropping out of the playoffs, “If I was 100%, I could have led our side to the Finals. Look at the fact I usually score 30 a game and during these playoffs, I have been struggling.” Durant finished Game 6 with 23. The NBA’s leading scorer vowed that he would be back the following year and wished Greg Oden well for the playoffs. Jason Kidd was the most disappointed Stealth member as he noted how this had been the most tired he had ever felt in his entire career, “I’m old enough to realize that time is running out. I really want to bring a championship home. This was a wasted opportunity.”

David Lee’s night sunk to the lowest it could when he had to be carried off with a strained quad. Lee finished with 10 points and was visibly upset that he had to leave the game.

Notes: The Boston Celtics will contest their second NBA Finals in three years after they eliminated the Miami Heat in a heart stopping Game 5. Paul Pierce hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Celtics a 107-106 win. The Heat had come from 8 down at the start of the final quarter and took a slender 1 point lead with 5.6 seconds left after a Dwyane Wade dunk. Wade struggled all night and finished with just 16 points with Michael Beasley leading Miami with 31. Kevin Garnett had 20 points and 16 rebounds and Rajon Rondo added 20 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals… Stealth PG Sebastian Telfair, drafted by Portland, visited his former teammates in the locker room. Telfair becomes a free agent and stated that he would like to stay with Seattle… C Brad Miller has indicated that he will keep his options open and test the free agency market… The Trailblazers own homecourt advantage for the Finals, a luxury they have not had for the first three rounds of the postseason… Portland won an NBA Championship in 1977…
