Actually, no. This is one of the features that have been lacking in the NBA 2K series. With HoopCast you cannot jump into the game at all, only control the things a coach can control e.g substitutions, match-ups, etc...

Knicks defeat Heat to win D'Antoni first

Mike D'Antoni's New York Knicks are off and running: Al Harrington scored 26 points and Wilson Chandler added 17 as the Knicks beat the Miami Heat 92-82 on Wednesday night in their first game under Mike D'Antoni. David Lee had ten points and 15 rebounds and Chris Duhon posted 15 assists for New York. Relying just as much on solid defense as D'Antoni's uptempo offense, the Knicks seized control in the last three minutes of the game, opening a 8-point lead with 1:23 remaining, then held on after the Heat got within three points in the final minute but two treys, the first by Nate Robinson and the second by Duhon, sealed the game.

Dwyane Wade had 29 points, six assists and four steals in his return to regular-season action for the Heat and Jermaine O'Neal added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Miami, who looked great offensively for three quarters, before a fierce rally by the Knicks doomed them, in rookie coach Erik Spoelstra's debut. Spoelstra, 37, became the youngest head coach in the NBA when he replaced Pat Riley. Rookie Michael Beasley, the No. 2 pick in the draft, had only ten points on 5-of-10 shooting for the Heat. Mario Chalmers also started for the Heat, racking up 7 assists but didn't score; the point guard fouled out on what appeared to be a good block on a Chandler's 3-pointer with 1:25 left after Miami closed within four. "We started the game slow. We woke up in time, it was a close game, but that late rally by them killed us," Beasley said.

New York is coming off a miserable 23-59 last season, its seventh straight sub-.500 finish. D'Antoni won't promise a winning team yet, but he did vow the Knicks would play hard and be entertaining, and that was certainly true on opening night. D'Antoni also has made it clear he values the Knicks' future as much as their present. The Heat were an NBA-worst 15-67 last season, and they'll be in for another long year if they can't find more help from Wade, who was visibly frustrated in the third quarter after firing a pass out of bounds. Wade hadn't played a regular-season game since March, before the Heat decided to shut him down for the season so he could rest his surgically repaired knee before playing in the Olympics. He was 10-of-22 from the field, perhaps trying to do too much while his teammates struggled for so long. "I've been on a team like this before and I understand when it goes well, it can go well," Wade said. "And I also know when it goes bad, it can go bad, from last season. So just trying to figure out our identity."

Game Notes :: The Heat also had two rookies in their opening night lineup in 1988 (Rony Seikaly and Kevin Edwards) and in 2003 (Wade and Udonis Haslem). ... Heat blow out Kings in home opener

In Dwyane Wade's mind, the worst part of last season for the Miami Heat was how they were pushovers on their home floor. "That has to change,'' Wade said. Miami is off to a fine start in that quest as Wade had 24 points and seven assists staying perfect from the field (10-of-10) and Michael Beasley finished with 14 as the Heat posted a whopping 36-21 second quarter and cruised ato an easy 116-96 win over the Sacramento Kings in their home opener Friday night. The Heat have gotten to a place last year's club never saw: the .500 mark. The 20-point win gave rookie coach Erik Spoelstra his first victory, one day before he'll celebrate his 38th birthday with a game in Charlotte.

His rewards? The game ball and being in the middle of a 16-man locker room hug. "They tried to mess up my hair,'' Spoelstra said. Instead, they messed up everything Sacramento tried. The already mentioned second quarter run turned it into a rout for Miami. "And I think we can get better,'' Heat center Jermaine O'Neal said. "There is no explanation for it,'' Sacramento coach Reggie Theus added. Udonis Haslem scored 14 points for the Heat and O'Neal added 10. Like Wade, they both sat out the entire fourth quarter. In the last 12 minutes, Yakhouba Diawara added all of his 12 points, also staying perfect from the field (6-of-6) and Joel Anthony added 10. Kevin Martin and Spencer Hawes scored 23 and 20, respectively, for the Kings (0-2).

"They came out right away, set the tone and buried us,'' said Kings forward Andres Nocioni, who had 17 points off the bench. The Kings' offensive plan revolved around rotating the ball around the perimeter and waiting for a chance to go inside, where Sacramento - like just about everyone else in the NBA - has a major height advantage over Miami. It didn't take the Heat long to stop that scheme: with Wade and Mario Chalmers setting the tone up top, the Heat collected steals and deflections on nearly every Sacramento possession over the final 6 minutes of the half, holding the Kings to 1-for-8 shooting. "We played like a team. We were relentless on defense,'' Beasley said. "We had so much intensity, we played with energy, we played together the whole game. That's what felt the best.''

With that, Wade pointed an index finger to the sky, and the home crowd did something it had very little opportunity to do last year when Miami stumbled to a 15-67 mark overall, 9-32 at home - scream with the Heat, not at them.

Game Notes :: Heat C Jamaal Magloire was inactive. Magloire, who was believed to be at least in the bench, dressed but didn't play in Wednesday's loss at New York. ... Raja Bell couldn't keep the Bobcats from losing another close game. Bell scored 15 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, including 4 consecutive treys in a 12-0 run, but Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem ran away with an 83-78 win over Charlotte. After a winless preseason and an ugly 152-135 loss at Cleveland to open the regular season, Raymond Felton had 19 points to go with 12 assists and Emeka Okafor added 13 rebounds, but they couldn't post an efficient, hustling performance coach Larry Brown would have wanted. "Right now, we are in a free-fall,'' Brown said. "We were the only winless team in the preseason and everybody reminds you of that. You come in here with a new coaching staff, everybody is talking about changes, This kids need a win.''

Boris Diaw added 13 points off the bench and DeSagana Diop had 6 points and 9 rebounds for Charlotte, being a constant presence in the paint. The Bobcats shot 35 percent from the field but only had 6 turnovers. Rookie Michael Beasley capped his opening week with 6 points for the Heat, who builded off Friday's blowout win over Sacramento. Wade, hampered by foul trouble, added 27 points on 11-of-21 shooting, while Haslem posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to celebrate rookie coach Erik Spoelstra's 38th birthday. "It's called growing pains. It's going to happen,'' Haslem said. "Coach said we're going to take one step backward, but then hopefully we'll take two steps forward.'' That's what happened after losing the opener and winning this two games.

Charlotte never threatened in the first three quarters, with the Heat leading by 20 in the middle of the third, but delighted a rare sellout crowd in the stadium and also managing partner and greatest player of all-time Michael Jordan, with the already mentioned 12-0 run that narrowed the score to only 5 with 1:34 remaining. "Tonight we thought we were an offensive team and we struggled," said Felton.

Game Notes :: After spending most of the previous two seasons in hidden in a luxury box, Jordan was animated on the sideline while barking at officials. ... Spoelstra before the game reflected on working his way from the team's video coordinator to celebrating his 38th birthday as head coach. "After working here for 13 years, it's special,'' Spoelstra said. "It's a tremendous honor for me.'' ... The Bobcats had only five sellouts last season. ... On Saturday, the Heat had the answer for Gerald Wallace. The forward had 23 points in the loss against the Cavaliers, making 11 of 16 shots, but he never appeared comfortable tonight with only 4 shots, to score 4 points. ... While the gray-haired, 68-year-old Larry Brown entered with 1,009 NBA wins and 406 more in the ABA and college, the slick-haired Spoelstra had won his first NBA game a night earlier.

Elton Brand is the new inside force, Thaddeus Young the explosive forward and Andre Iguodala, for times, the guy running the offense. Brand and Young had 16 points apiece and Iguodala had 19 points and 6 assists. "It's a great win for our young guys,'' said Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks. Dwyane Wade had 35 points and 10 assists, but failed in the last quarter. "Right now, it's a lot of hurt,'' Wade said. "It feels good that we competed the way we did and pushed, but their third quarter run was decisive.'' Brand grabbed two key offensive rebounds in the final 90 seconds, then hit two free throws with 19.9 seconds left to seal the victory and silence the crowd in the American Airlines Arena.

"All we had to do was stay focused,'' Brand said. "If we had missed a couple more shots, they'd be up here celebrating the win instead of us.'' Jermaine O'Neal had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Michael Beasley had 12 points but went 5-of-17 from the field for Miami. The Heat trailed by 5 after three quarters; Iguodala and Young both came out attacking the basket in the second half, scoring 12 of Philadelphia's first 14 points, all on dunks and layups, but Wade and Mario Chalmers each scored to start a 7-0 run in the opening minutes of the fourth. Daequan Cook banked in a 3-pointer with 5:21 left to force an 92-92 tie. On the Heat' next trip, O'Neal got fouled on an offensive rebound and hit two free throws to give Miami the lead. Wade, Heat post superb fourth quarter and buzzer beater to win at San Antonio

Jamario Moon struggled through four quarters. But he needed just one shot to fix it all. Moon scored only 7 points, including the game-winning basket with 1.2 seconds remaining as the Miami Heat won at San Antonio with a 135-134 victory over the Spurs. Moon was 1-of-5 from the field prior to the winner, but coach Erik Spoelstra gave him the responsability and he didn't disappoint. Manu Ginobili converted a three-point play with 2:01 remaining to give San Antonio a 131-126 advantage. Chris Quinn, who was called for the foul, received a technical and was ejected after arguing with the referees. Ginobili made the extra free throw to build a six-point lead. The Heat responded by scoring the next six points, with Michael Beasley's two free throws making it 132-131 before Roger Mason put the Spurs back in front with a 3-pointer over Mario Chalmers with 11 seconds remaining.

"Tonight is a big win for us because we scrapped it out, dove for loose balls and did the little things to help us win," said Quinn. "Being home, we had a chance early to put the game away, but they came back," Mario Chalmers added. "We continued to fight, even when we were down by five with two minutes to go. We just didn't give up." That set the stage for Moon, who drained a shot from the left corner in the final second over Bruce Bowen. "The good lord was looking down on me because I had missed X amount of my previous shots," Moon completed. "That's a tough loss," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, whose team started the season 3-0 but have lost 2 straight. "It's very disappointing to have lost this game this way."

Dwyane Wade rounded up an excellent performance with 39 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists (including the one to Moon) and 5 steals, and Beasley added 20 points for Miami, who had 6 players in double figures. Chalmers had 8 points and 12 assists and Daequan Cook contributed with 13. The Spurs had a chance to win the game, and Mason was the one to do it; he was 7-of-9 from beyond the arc at that point, but missed a rushed jumper. "It was a golden opportunity for us and we just didn't take advantage of it," Tim Duncan said. "We must look forward. It's that simple." Tony Parker later added: "The game could have been lost 100 million times tonight. We fought back but we made a lot of different mistakes."

Game Notes :: This win marks Miami's first in San Antonio since 1996. ... Quinn had 10 points and 3 assists before being ejected. ... The Heat took an early 27-18 lead, and then made two 3-pointers, a layup and a jumper in consecutive plays to help make it 49-36 at halftime. But Peterson connected on his own 3-pointer, jumper and layup for a 25-25 third quarter, a challenge for Miami. The Hornets scored a season-low 36 points at the halftime, while Paul went 0-for-6 from beyond the arc. "I think we started well defensively,'' Jermaine O'Neal said. "To hold a team like the Hornets to 36 points in the first half is an accomplishment.'' The former Pacer and Raptor finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hornets coach Byron Scott said that "we haven't, for some reason, come out and played with energy. A lot of times we'd be playing to the other team's level instead of playing our game and doing what we do, which has made us successful, but today we weren't able to do that."
