My rap tolerance must be dropping, I could barely get through the first 20 seconds of that.

Auto-tune is the current trend, I don't get why pplz are hating on auto-tune. It is a great tool to use for musicians, I love the robotic voice that it produces. Even Diddy is using auto-tune on his new album. Here's a response from T-Pain regarding to the Jay-Z song.

Being popular and trendy doesn't mean it's good. Music without auto-tune sound more natural and more human. Auto-tune gets annoying quickly.

That's not certainly helping your arguement for the autotune...

The autotune also shows that you're incapable of actually singing in tune... That pretty much equates you to being a talentless idiot trying to cash in on a fad.

I am saying that auto-tune is the current trend, artists use to make money. Hip-Hop is all about money, this is why everyone is using it to make money. If an artist uses auto-tune, it doesn't mean they don't have any talent. What is the explanation behind the success of auto-tune songs then? Diddy had been a veteran in the rap game, he is starting to use auto-tune because it is a trend, and I think he is going to make money with his new album. It doesn't mean that he has no talent does it? All rappers that have been using the auto-tune started out rapping and had been successful in the past. It was very smart in T-Pain that he found this tool to help his music career, and it has turned out to be a trend for others in the industry. Even if these artists can't sing with their natural voices, they still created and wrote melodies that they can sing, and auto-tune is a tool. What is wrong with that?

'Coz their real voice sounds like they're garggling .
Making Benjamins with Fake Voices , bleh ! (N)

For T-Pain and Lil' Wayne , just make songs , don't sing . . .

Oh sorry, I thought music was meant for creatively presenting and expressing yourself, not to be mass produced in a simple carbon-copy fashion for idiots to gobble up.... The fact that they're trying to cash in by exploiting a fad by putting up a minimal effort into something with such artistic potential as music somewhat irks me.

What is the explanation behind the success of auto-tune songs then?

I don't know, idiots who actually think that the sound of electronically gargling semen in ones mouth is actually pleasing to listen to? Honestly just because something is successful does not mean that it is necessarily a great thing, especially if its being over exploited to the point where there is no creativity involved in utilizing it anymore..

Diddy had been a veteran in the rap game, he is starting to use auto-tune because it is a trend

I'd consider Brian Scalabrine a veteran of the NBA... Once again, Longevity does not prove that one is great. Diddy has never struck me as a rapper that is any good, especially now.... The fact that someone with a waning career that is following a "trend" shows us that he too is only in it for doing it in a desperate attempt to capture a portion of the auto-tune listening market.

Quite frankly, I stopped listening to rap music a while ago, and I'm glad I did. I have nothing against hip hop music, it's just that most of it nowadays is contrived, easily regurgitated and meaningless because most artists out there sound the same. Shit's gone down the shitter. Fo' rizzle. But hey, if you're down for listening to that stuff.... I can't stop you.

On a more personal note, my favorite hiphop band Ostrich Head from LA has started using this shit in their new album.

www.myspace.com/ostrichhead

I still love their rap parts and their beats, but I now have audacity edited versions of all their songs off their new album removing the "autotune" chorus's. At least they dont use it for their entire song.

BTW, Butterface is kinda funny, especially for the last guy starting at ~2:00

Hip Hop is evolving, if guys like Kanye and Lil Wayne have been using auto-tune, it means a lot of people are going to follow. I believe Lil Wayne and Kanye used the auto-tune because they wanted to be creatively presenting and be expressive. But as soon as these artists become successful, others would want to make money using auto-tune. Even though Kanye's auto-tune albumhad bad criticism, his album still sold platinum. I think artists will stop using auto-tune after a year or something like that, but nobody knows, like I said, Hip Hop is evolving with auto-tune. Personally, I would only like to see auto-tune used by T-Pain exclusively, but the success of Lil Wayne and others can't stop this trend from happening. I'd like auto-tune to be unique and just from T-Pain like in 2005, when he was the only main stream guy using the tool.

I'd say Diddy had been a successful artist in the Hip-Hop industry, both producing tracks and rapping himself.

Last statement of Jay-z I read was cris brown is a dead man. If cris brown is still breathing I wouldn't take anything jay-z declares very serious.

No need to focus on this song right now. One artist to pay mind too at this moment.

Mos Def.

The album is sick.

I like me some rock, but I love old school rap & hip hop.

Lords of the Underground, Run DMC, Blackalicious, Pete Rock's remixes, House of Pain, Afrika Bambaataa, Black Sheep, Public Enemy, NWA, Jurassic 5, that kinda stuff.

The one song that really sums up my taste in music is Ugly Duckling - the Breakdown, and I guess the bands that have the best sound to me overall is Sweatshop Union and the aforementioned Ostrich Head
