Injuries Plague Wizards Once Again, Rookie Blake Griffin Out With Severe Ankle Sprain
December 3rd 2009
The Washington Wizards' rookie forward Blake Griffin is reportedly going to miss the next 2-4 weeks with a severe ankle sprain that he sustained earlier this evening against the Houston Rockets.
Griffin was drafted by the Wizards with the number 2 overall pick in this year's draft, just behind his teammate Leo Lai, who was drafted first overall by also the Wizards. Blake has been averaging 12.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 3.4 apg, 0.9 spg, and 1.3 bpg shooting 57.8% from the field and 89.4% from the free throw line in 28.3 minutes per game. He currently leads the Wizards in rebounding, blocks, and free throw percentage.
Washington already has Star Gilbert Arenas and key reserve Leon Powe out with injuries, and the addition of Griffin to the injured list is going to hurt the Wizards' terrific record that they have right now. With this, the Wizards only have 10 healthy bodies on the team at the moment, it may be wise to sign a cheap free agent to hold the fort until at least one or two of the players recover from their respective injuries.

Wizards Signs D-League MVP Courtney Sims
December 4th 2009
As injuries after injuries hit the Wizards, Washington have been forced to sign a new player to the roster after both of their reliable power forwards went down, first Powe, now Griffin.
It's a great news to the Wizards that their star Gilbert Arenas is finally able to come back and be 100%, but even Agent Zero can't fill in as a Powerforward/Center. So the Washington Wizards have announced their signing of the 2008/09 D-League MVP, Courtney Sims to a 1 year deal. Per Team Policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed, however, due to the Wizards being way over the cap, it is pretty much no secret that the contract is the league minimum of 449k.
In his last d-league season, Sims was leading the Iowa Energy with 22.8 points per game, while shooting 61 percent (277-of-458) from the field to go along with averages of 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 38.8 minutes. Sims was selected by a vote of the NBA D-League’s head coaches to be the D-League MVP of the 08/09 season.
“Courtney really has earned this honor, and I’m proud of him,” said Energy head coach Nick Nurse. “His development in the last 12 months has been outstanding - he has grown his offensive game, his competitiveness and his athleticism. The improvements in his game are a total credit to him for all of the hard work he's put in over the last year and if he can improve as much in the next 12 months as he has in the last, I know he'll be a great asset to the Wizards or any NBA team.”
Courtney Sims will be wearing number 4 since Leon Powe has number 44

Washington's Snow out with Separated Shoulder
December 10th 2009
Wizards' veteran backup point guard Eric Snow separated his left shoulder earlier this evening in the Wizards vs Mavericks game in Dallas.
Snow was saving a loose ball and dived into the scorer's table in order to do so, the Wizards benefited from his heroic save and got the fastbreak points, but the drawback will be that Snow will miss the next 1-2 weeks at the least.
The 36 year old, 14 year veteran point guard from Michigan State is currently averaging 2.6ppg, 2.6 apg while shooting 43% in 9.2 mpg. He was most known for his 6 year stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, in which playing under Larry Brown and alongside Allen Iverson, Snow played a crucial role in helping the 76ers earn the top playoff seed in the Eastern Conference and ultimately reach the 2001 NBA Finals, where they lost in five games to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Wizards have been hit with a series of injuries lately, and the latest one to Snow is already the 4th one this season. Rookie Blake Griffin is currently still out but Arenas and Powe have recently returned to the lineup.
