Pretty good article.
Being a LakerFan... I would love Kobe to repeat, but that's not important. He's going for the championship.
Give Lebron the MVP. It's already a sure-in... (not that I agree or like Lebron personally)
Wade just has to get jipped, like many great players in the past, his team is too mediocre.
Most Valuable Player of the league, which is essentially, the "valuable player" of the top-tier teams in the league.

The better answer to the question "Why [is] the MVP Award ... Idiotic, Imbecilic, and Irrelevant?" is that the media picks it.

They should go back to the players picking it. I'm sure it would mean a lot more to them. Same with DPOY, etc.

But then, wouldn't a player in Wade's position (far and away the best player on a mediocre-to-average team) be the MVP by default? If we were to truly have an even field in MVP criteria, it would be difficult to factor in a team's record at all.

LeBron definitively deserves mvp award this year.He finally has great teammate and cavs are the best team in the league. As someone says,if LeBron doesn't get mvp award this year, this will be a robbery.I mean,Wade is really great,he can make 3 when he needs to make it,he isn't great and constant shooter but he can score 30+ every night. He hasn't great teammate.O'Neal is good and Beasley is good but he is not showing it.He is used to little. He is a scorer,Wade can't beat teams by himself, maybe he can now but in playoffs.Beasley should be used more.Wade  but LeBron is the man who deserves mvp award this year

And since Kobe won it last year. Of course he had great teammates all of a sudden when he decided to pass them the ball.

Only the second team in the history to make it playoff from previous 15 wins season. So remakable accomplishment. But still Lebron leads the race.

They should let fans have 25% of the vote in the MVP race like they did in the WNBA
Allen Iverson passing on family values:

A.I.: son, what you doing there?
A.I.'s son: practicing my math for my test tommorow
A.I: practice? practice? we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test - practice. we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test, not the test - practice.

But then Yao Ming would end up as a caadidate everytime, since it would turn into a popularity contest.

I say the final candidates should always play rock paper scissor for the award.

Most Valuable Teammate or Team Player award sounds like a good idea.

Let the players and the coaches vote for the MVP. Keep the fans out, the MVP isn't the ASG.

Then why would you want the coaches voting? Haven't they already proven themselves with the All-Star Reserves?

Players should vote, but they can't vote for any member of their own team.

Fuck it, they should just change it to Western/Eastern Conference player of the year, then flip a coin for the league mvp.

I'm with the ESPN cast, who said at the Pistons-Heat game, that there's no wrong answer to the MVP. All are worthy of it.

A bit of a cop-out in some respects, but I don't entirely disagree with the sentiment.
