What kind of staff

Fri Mar 06, 2009 3:37 am

What kind of staff members do you guys usually hire? For example, do you usually hire young or old staff? What kind of grades in what catagories do you hire? Who here hires the best of each staff? What abilites in the assistants do you hire? Do you go for a good development grade? Do you hire good scouts?

I've found that I can usually get away with lower rated (and therefore cheaper) scouts and trainers. That way I can get a better assistant coach to aid in developing players.

Well, I always hire bad trainers and scouts. That way I can sign the best coach and maybe even a second coach.

Yeah, sometimes i hire the best of each staff except for trainer, I always make sure i have at least $3 mil from the owner, most of the times i hire three good assistants and bad other staff, unless i get a huge amount of money then i may hire even a good ashc along with the three good assistants.

I think the trainer is the one area where you can most afford to be cheap and settle for lesser rated personnel. If your player suffers a major injury then I believe the impact of the trainer is minimal, and if it's a minor injury you usually don't have to worry about it too much as they might have a) recovered by your next game anyway or b) only be day-to-day in which case you can still choose to rest them if you want to be cautious.

I always try to get 3M or so salary cap so that I can do the best hiring. I look for trainer who is B- to A- so it would be cheapest ( now I know that it should even be worse :D) then hire Ast. Head Coach who has developing at least B, I hire the cheapest Scout and then look for three assistants. And everyone of them has to have one A like one Offensive A one Defensive A and one Athletic A so I can train some player with three guys and he gets like 5 or 6 skills a year, like 80 to 85 ;)

Yeah i guess its good to hire a good assistant head coach, I like to do that in my experiement dynastys. I wonder if most people get a good assistant head coach along with 3 assistants?

I think so, it seems to be the best match as the dynasty is 25 years long so you need young players and with assistants you might get players beyond the limits.

I hire the best possible 1st asst coach rating A+ with specialty, another good 2nd asst coach rating B or C with specialty, 2 poor trainers with different specialties (1st trainer rating: D- specialty: leg, 2nd trainer D- specialty: arm), and a poor scout usually a D rating, I usually don't draft early in my dynasty coz I observe on my first year how my team would gel.

I always try to get a good development AHC, either with a training specialisation or with at least B+ or higher in development. I hire the worst scout possible. I think scouting is the worst aspect of this game. You can go on dozens of scouting missions with a really good scout and still end up with a dud player. It is just a crap shoot. I always get a bad trainer at the start but as your budget improves over the years I improve him. Assistants are the most important. I always get 3. The best one you can get is one that is A+ F F. You can often get them for around 500K. I try to get one who is ggod at off, one who is good at def and one who is good at aths. IMHO def is the most important but that is up to you.

Two things I don't know

1)how useful are specialisations when they are training something else. For example is a "shooting" coach who is D C- A+ and spends his whole year training aths. Is this of any use?
2) Which is better, An A+ def coach with no specialisation or a B def coach who has a specialisation in rebounding, big men etc?

Anyone know?

1. Not really. At the end of the day, the assistant in that scenario has a poor offensive rating so you can't expect the best results.

2. I'd still go for the higher rating.

That's interesting about the ashc with the training specialty, that's what i always wondered about. Why is that training specialty the most affective ashc's? I never understood that.

The specialty refers to an added training boost to a certain area within a category. For example, an assistant rated a B in defense and a specialty in rebounding will be more than adequate in getting results training a player and developing their defensive ratings, but in particular they'll provide a boost to rebounding ratings. At the end of the day they're still rated a B though, so they're not as effective as someone that's rated an A.
