Bulls Tough Defense Put a Clamp on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers
Image

Revenge is sweet

After getting destroyed by King James and the Cavaliers in Cleveland 7 Games ago, the Bulls bounced back from that loss and is now on a 7 game winning streak, the latest being a blow out victory against the Cavaliers at home.

Led by Sean Williams and Lamar Odom's stiffing defense, the Bulls shut down King James almost completely, holding him to just 6 points in the half, James finished with just 11 points, with a horrible 4 for 21 performance from the field, he also had 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Williams had 16 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, and a career high 6 steals in the ball game, taking turns with Lamar Odom in shutting King James down, Odom had 19 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks in the ball game.

"The plan was for me and Lamar (Odom) to go out there and make it tough for him (Lebron James) to score, it was tough because he is such a great player, but we got the job done" said Williams after the game

Bulls guards Ben Gordon and Derrick Rose struggled throughout the game, Gordon finished with 15 points, while Rose struggled big time, only scoring 9 points and 5 assists, with 5 turnovers, but Rudy Fernandez picked up the slack for the two of them, putting up 20 points off the bench in 16 minutes of play, he led the game in scoring and shot 7 for 12 from the field, including 3 for 4 from three.

Mo Williams led the way for the Cavs with 16 points and 4 assists, and despite the Cavaliers having 4 guys scoring in double digits, no one scored over 20 points and everyone apart from Mo shot less then 50% from the field, the Cavs shot 35% from the field as a whole and only 11% from 3, they were out rebounded 46 to 36, and their bench was out scored 40 to 21.

"We just struggled, i mean, this was one of the worse games offensively in my career, they played great defense on us, and we just could not get a rhythm." said James "We are going to have to focus more and execute better if we want to stay alive (in the playoff chase)"

The Bulls are now on a 10 game winning streak at home, 7 game winning streak overall, and if they could defeat the Spurs (another home game) in their next game, there won't be much (all sub .500 teams) stopping their winning streaks until they face off against the Los Angeles Clippers on the 28th and Phoenix Suns on the 31st.

Bulls make their move, trades Camby
January 18th 2009

Image
Everyone knew this was coming, just the matter of when it would happen, and after yesterday's fury of trades, you just knew that Dennis Rodman was going to follow the trend and pull the trigger...

He did just that.

The Bulls have announced a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies that would revolve around sending former defensive player of the year Marcus Camby to the Grizzlies in exchange for the Grizzlies' 2009 1st round pick. To make the deal work, the Grizzlies are also sending Grant Hill and Hakim Warrick, and the Bulls are sending their own '09 1st rounder. The Exact Trade is listed below
Image

This move would allow the Bulls to have a further 8 million dollars cap space in the off season to spend, but more importantly, it gives them a real good chance of drafting the lottery-projected center prospect Andrew Gilmore of UCLA.

"I am not offended, it's part of the business, you have to accept it and move forward" said Camby when asked about the trade "only, i reckon we could have made it all the way with the way we are playing right now, but obviously the management thought otherwise"

Some of his teammates, however, don't share the optimism that Camby expressed, and it has gone to the extreme that Drew Gooden exploded on the spot in the press conference, and spoke bluntly about refusing to play for the Bulls from now on and would like to be traded, however, Dennis Rodman responded right away that he would not trade him, as he is a 7 million dollar contract that is expiring, and would put him on the Inactive rotation from now on, and told him to stay away from the team.

On a happier note, Scottie Pippen has given Grant Hill permission to use the number 33, which is retired in honor of Pippen.

Bulls Sign Patrick Ewing Jr
January 18th 2009

Image
Just Hours after the Camby trade, the Bulls have announced that they have successfully signed Free Agent Patrick Ewing Jr, son of Knicks great Patrick Ewing, to a 1 year deal.
Per team policy, terms of the deal was not enclosed. It was rumored to be something around 3 million dollars for the year.
The Bulls have now got 15 players, the maximum number allowed, and Hakim Warrick would be moved to the Inactive Rotation to make room for Ewing to be in the rotation.

"he has great athletic ability, i think he would have a bright career ahead of him" said Bulls owner and GM Dennis Rodman "obviously he would be a better fit on our rotation then the idiots Hakim Warrick and Drew Gooden, you know what i'm saying?"

The Timing of Ewing Jr's signing couldn't have been better, for the Bulls' next game is playing against the Knicks in New York, Ewing Jr would make his NBA Debut in the place where his father dominated for so long, and hopefully he would make the Knicks pay for cutting him.

mandich, glad you liked the signing, he was a decent backup against the Knicks and he posterized David Lee with a windmill....
thierryhenry50, Odom just notched back-to-back triple doubles :P one in a loss against the Spurs and one in a blowout against the Knicks

Bulls rookie Derrick Rose Injured in loss to Raptors
January 23rd 2009

Image
Chicago Bulls rookie Derrick Rose went down from a hard foul from Raptors' Will Solomon in the second quarter in the Bulls-Raptors game here in Chicago earlier, he was carried off the floor and did not return. The NBA later reviewed the play at the request from the Bulls, and upgraded the call to a flagrant two call, Solomon was fined an undisclosed amount but no suspension was made.

Rose was diagnosed with a Strained Achilles and would be out until late February.

This is a big blow to the Bulls, and despite Lamar Odom getting another big triple double, and also Ben Gordon scoring 32 points in the game, the Bulls could not come away with the victory, and they might take a beating until their floor general returns in a month's time.

Veteran Eric Snow would be starting in place for Rose, but for the most part, it would be a lineup of Ben Gordon, Rudy Fernandez, Grant Hill, Lamar Odom, and Sean Williams

Injury strikes Chicago once again, Gordon out 20 days with sprained Wrist
January 25th 2009

Image
Just 2 days after the Bulls lost Derrick Rose to injury, their other starting guard Ben Gordon goes down with a sprained wrist in the win against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minnesota.

Gordon was sent to the ground hard by Roger Mason while going for a layup on a fast break, he immediately held his wrist and indicated to Vinny Del Negro that he needs to come off the court, he did not return and further examination confirms the sprain, it's not serious but he requires rest, although he doesn't want to miss any games, Del Negro would not take that risk.

The Bulls would now have to change their starting lineup once again, and the latest information received is that they would go with a backcourt of Anthony Carter and Steve Francis inplace of the injured Rose and Gordon.

mandich, you are going to be disappointed then...i am on a 2 game losing streak (clippers then kings), next game is the 'fan night' game against the Suns, lets hope i can snap the streak at 2 before it really gets out of hand...

hova-, cheers man, the Worm is doing a nice job isn't he? :D

Shady BTD, thanks, always nice to have a new reader, hope you enjoy it, but i dont think i'll reach the finals...at least not this year (i predict i'll be out by the second round at the most) but in a few seasons, who knows? maybe i'll indeed met with the Lakers in the finals :)

Odom's 48 leads Bulls to comeback win over Suns
Image

After going 1-4 in their last 5 games, with the lone win coming from against Minnesota, and the 4 losses to mediocre teams, the Bulls started the night out the same way they had been since losing both Derrick Rose and Ben Gordon to injuries, that is, terrible.

The first quarter featured a series of scoring runs from the Phoenix Suns, and the first quarter ended with the Bulls trailing 24 to 38, in which at one point it was 30-10 in favor of the Suns; The Game pretty much looked like the Suns would be punishing the Bulls and send them to their longest losing streak of the season with 3, but the Bulls' star Lamar Odom had a different outcome in his mind.

Odom would get started in the second quarter, scoring 15 of his 17 first half points, and dish out 9 assists and 5 rebounds, as well as 2 blocks before the second half, where he continued to dominate at both ends of the floor, and go on to end the game with 48 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks from 20 for 32 shooting, including 2 for 3 from the 3 point range, and 6 for 17 from the line, and his performances, with a little help from Grant Hill, who was playing in Phoenix for the first time since he was traded earlier in the month, and also the youngster Sean Williams, who is having a breakout year, the former had 21 points and 5 rebounds, as well as 2 steals and 2 blocks from 8 for 9 shooting, including 2 for 2 from 3 and 3 for 3 from the line in 29 minutes against his former team, and Williams added in 14 points, 7 rebounds, and a season high 7 blocks, just one off from his career high of 8; The Bulls was able to pull off this comeback win in the end, after trailing by as many as 20 points, to win 122 to 117 here in Phoenix.

The Suns were led by Amar'e Stoudemire and Steve Nash, with the former getting 28 points and 11 rebounds, and the latter chipping in a near triple double performance of 24 points, 16 assists, and 7 rebounds. Suns Center Shaquille O'Neal had a solid performance of 10 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks, but that was overshadowed by Williams' big night.

The Bulls are now 33-17 while the Suns drop to 25-20.

Kite, yeah he was, it's tough winning without 2 starters, but i managed to pull that one out
Sit, gonna be disappointing but i am predicting a losing month in february, at least until rose and gordon comes back...if i can lose 4 out of 5 games to mediocre teams....it aint looking too good right now...plus, i made a lot of adjustments to the sliders to make the game much, much harder
thierryhenry50, amazing huh? wish he plays like that in real life for the lakers
