These are the top PGs who are expected to be a part of the NBA Draft for next season.

It does not seem to be a very deep PG class however the two best College PGs in the nation right now; Steele and Mayo are both talented enough to contribute right away in the NBA. Ciro Rojo, an Argentinean national plying his trade in Europe, has the potential to develop into something special. Teams may want to have a look at Klemen Pirc, Tony Simpson, and Zoilo Resurreccion but it does not seem that there are many other prospects woth looking at for this position.

Chapter 7

”I’m not trading you man, I can’t let you go,” Sit told Westbrook, “We’ve got plans for you and right now we are on a roll.”
Westbrook didn’t react.
“We’re winning and you are a big part of that. I know sometimes it may get frustrating,” Sit said, “I see how unhappy everyone is about Kevin taking the number of shots he takes every game.”
Westbrook spoke up, “If you can see everyone unhappy, why don’t you do something about it?”
Sit laughed, “What can I do about it? I’m not the coach, I can’t tell him to take less shots.”
“Can’t you talk to Coach?”
“Let’s not even go there,” Sit smiled.
“Well, you can ship him out of here!” Westbrook half-joke; half-suggested.
“Not really,” Sit stated, “If I could I would have already. Look, Kevin may be a little selfish but he is having an All-Star caliber season. Take all of the bias away and tell me whether he has made a difference to this team in every game this season?”
“I guess so,” Westbrook admitted.
“Look Russell,” Sit was trying to be nice, “I really need you to cooperate with me. Our team is having a good run this season and we need to keep going with it. Are we really a good team or a bad team playing one good season? We won’t know unless you play the rest of the season here and a bit of the next.”
“What do you mean?” Westbrook was confused.
“What I’m trying to say is that we are winning and I will admit to you now that I was not expecting any of this. Do Brad and Adam really make us this much better or are we just having a lucky season. I really want to find out and I want you to stick around because if we are really this good, I want you to be the leader of this team and I want you to be here for a long time.”
Westbrook liked what he heard but still was not persuaded, “I’m not very happy about playing at the moment. I want a bigger role.”
“I can’t do anything about that. Have you addressed it to Coach?” Sit asked him.
“I have,” Westbrook answered.
“Well, be ready for a coaching change then,” Sit stated, “End of the season, I am going to find a new one.”
Sit realized he had given too much information away, “But you don’t need to worry about that. I just wanted you to know that you are a very valuable part of this team and franchise but if you are really unhappy by season’s end, you can come let me know and I can work something out. Right now though, I need you to help this team prepare for the playoffs.”
Westbrook knew where he stood now, “You think we will make it?”
“Sure will,” Sit grinned.
Sit got up and reached his hand forward to Westbrook; both of them shook hands and Westbrook led Sit to the door.
“Thanks for your time Russell and I shall see you soon.”
“Thank you sir,” Westbrook replied as Sit left.

Sit was in his office after having had a chat with Kevin Durant. The youngster had a good showing at the All-Star Game. He had scored all of his points in the first overtime period of the double overtime match and gained much praise from Hornets’ coach Byron Scott. Scott told journalists that he felt that Durant would be an MVP one day. The reason for Sit’s meeting with Durant was to congratulate his young star and talk about the rest of the season.
“I really want you to focus on getting everyone involved on offence,” Sit had told Durant.
Durant didn’t say anything but nodded. Half an hour had passed since Sit had talked to Durant. Sit was still in his office and browsing his email. The Charlotte Bobcats were offering Raymond Felton for Jeff Green. Uh, no thanks, Sit thought. He pressed on the delete icon. There were a few emails from his scouts and there were a few funny chain emails that the GMs and executives were sending to each other; NBA managers and execs are normal people too.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Sit laughed as he read an email from the Portland Trailblazers and promptly deleted it.
The phone then rang.
“Yes?” Sit answered, he recognized the number on caller id.
Sit frowned, “That’s ok. I will let him know.”
Sit hung up and picked up the phone to buzz his secretary, “Hey, can you tell Earl that he’s not going anywhere. Say that I changed my mind.”
In actual fact, the deal had fallen through but Watson didn’t have to know that. Sit just had to make him feel like a valued member of the team.

When Kevin Durant led the Stealth into Phoenix, he got goose bumps. It was only recently that he had been playing in the All-Star game in the same stadium. Durant spotted Steve Nash warming up on the other end and approached him. Durant shook hands with his Western Conference All-Star team mate and wished him luck for the game. Seattle was coming off a tough last minute loss to Chris Paul and the Hornets. Paul, another All-Star teammate of Durant’s, hit an awkward jumper close to the hoop at the buzzer. Paul rubbed it in Durant’s face after the match had finished and Durant vowed that he would get him back next time the two faced each other.
“Show time baby,” Durant exclaimed to the Stealth bench as the starting lineups filed onto the floor for the jump ball.
The Suns got off to a quick start but Earl Watson was having the night of his life as he came off the bench to knock down eight three point baskets. He helped Seattle get back into the match and the Stealth stuck with the Suns until they lost control of the match down the stretch.
“Tough luck kid,” Nash said to Durant at the end, “But at least you’re still in the playoff picture.”
Durant joked, “I hope you guys stop winning so I can relax.”
Seattle still in eighth place while Phoenix was tenth; needed a good run of games to challenge Seattle for the eighth seed. That also depended on ninth placed Dallas who were playing great over the past two months and had gained a lot of ground on Seattle’s positioning. A few nights later, Seattle didn’t forge any more of a lead over their rivals as they forfeited a chance to win against the Golden State Warriors. As each game past, it seemed that Seattle’s playoff chances were slowly slipping away. A surprise win against the Lakers instilled some hope in the team but back to back losses to close out the month looked ugly.

The Stealth ended up not making any moves before the trade deadline. With the roster sitting at the maximum fifteen, it didn’t seem likely the team would make any changes; even if it was to pick up Stephon Marbury who had finally been waived by the New York Knicks. Sit had spoke to Marbury on the phone but decided that both parties weren’t right for each other. The point guard wanted to play for a contender and not an up-and-comer while Westbrook and Watson were holding down the fort well enough for Seattle. Watson was surprised he wasn’t sent out of town but little did he know that Dallas pulled out of Seattle’s proposed trade at the last minute. Sit originally wanted to acquire Jerry Stackhouse as Seattle lacked a starting shooting guard. Stack would have been a quick fix to the issue for the rest of the season. He was only on contract for the rest of the season and he would be re-signed depending on how he would have done in the playoffs for Seattle. However, Stack picked up the slack and started playing well. With the Mavs on a tear towards a spot in the playoffs; Dallas didn’t want to ruin any of the momentum they were building. The Seattle Stealth was rolling up to the home stretch of the season. Their playoff hopes rested on the final two months of the season.

SEATTLE (AP) – The New Orleans Hornets let a 17 point lead slip away and allowed the Seattle Stealth to stage a ferocious comeback in the waning moments of the fourth quarter. Kevin Durant was instrumental in the fourth quarter comeback as he scored 12 of his 34 points in the last 6 minutes of the game. However, it was Hornets’ star Chris Paul who came to his team’s rescue – hitting the game winning bucket at the buzzer after grabbing Morris Peterson’s miss.

After trailing by as many as 17 points in stages of the third and fourth quarters, Durant led his team on a hot streak which culminated in an exciting exchange towards the end of the match. Durant hit a floater in the lane and a pair of free throws to get his team within 5 points with 1:47 remaining. Russell Westbrook then scored on a drive to the hoop with 1:33 remaining, closing the gap to 3 points. The Hornets called a timeout and Paul hit Peterson with a perfect pass leading to an easy bucket to go ahead by 5 points again.

Both teams would go for a minute without a made basket before Chris Wilcox hit Durant with a pass out of the paint. Durant, standing unmarked behind the arc, hit a big three point shot with 22.3 seconds left to pull his team within 2 points of the visitors. On the ensuing possession, Brad Miller was able to knock the ball out of Paul’s hands, which led to Westbrook dunking on the fast break. The bucket tied the game with just 13.7 seconds left.

New Orleans called a timeout to try and set up a play for Peterson to win the game. “We wanted that last shot,” Byron Scott admitted after the game, “We expected Chris to draw the double team and Mo was hot at the time so we thought he would get a good look and great chance at winning it for us.”

Coming out of the timeout, Paul was able to get the ball near halfway. He dribbled towards the three point line before passing to Peterson who was cutting towards him. Peterson received the ball just beneath the free throw line and as he turned the corner, he was able to launch an off balance jumper with 5.4 seconds remaining in the game. The shot didn’t drop in and Paul came out of nowhere to corral the rebound. With Stealth defenders scrambling to stop Paul from putting a shot up, the All-Star PG was able to fake to his left before spinning right and putting up a contested floater over DJ White at the buzzer.

As the ball went through the hoop, Paul raised a fist and high fived David West before leaving the court with the home crowd stunned; silent. “That felt really good,” Paul later stated, “It’s always nice to hit the game winner and it’s even better when the crowd is so into it. The Seattle fans were really hostile towards us tonight.”

Durant led both teams in scoring with his 34 points but had an able sidekick in Wilcox who had his best game of the season with a 32 point, 14 rebound effort. Westbrook and Jeff Green added 13 apiece for the Stealth and Adam Morrison chipped in 12 from off the bench.

Peterson added 20 points to Paul’s 34 for the Hornets as rookie Julian Wright had an impressive 14 point performance from off the pine. Tyson Chandler had 12 in limited minutes due to fouls while West added 10 points of his own for New Orleans.

Notes: Paul, Miller, and Durant played together for the West All-Star Team… With the trade deadline approaching, there are still persistent rumors that Westbrook will be heading out of Seattle… Miller had 7 assists for Seattle… The Hornets’ James Posey has also been mentioned in a number of trade scenarios. The SF denied rumors that he wanted out of the ball club though…

Steve Nash converts the layup to complete a game-winning 11-0 run for the Suns

PHOENIX (AP) – Earl Watson scored a career high 42 points from off the bench; his performance including a franchise record 8 three point shots made. Kevin Durant added an efficient 25 points along with 8 assists and Jeff Green notched a double double of 16 points and 10 assists. Unfortunately, the young Seattle Stealth were unable to defeat the Phoenix Suns at home in a high scoring affair.

Chris Wilcox and Brad Millerwere both also impressive for the Stealth. Wilcox had 16 points and 12 rebounds as Miller finished the match with 10 points.

Jason Richardson led the Suns with 39 points as Steve Nash, still in fine form after the recent All-Star Game, had 26 points and 12 assists. Grant Hill scored 21 points, Amare Stoudamire had 14, and sparkplug Leandro Barbosa chipped in 16 from off the pine.

The game was full of three pointers as both teams combined to hit 30 of them; Seattle with 17 and Phoenix with 13. “It just seemed like both teams had the hot hand,” Nash told reporters, “This game was a lot of fun.” Durant agreed with his counterpart, “It felt like I was still playing in the All-Star Game tonight but Earl (Watson) was Gilbert.”

Watson couldn’t miss in the second quarter as he came onto the court to try and lead Seattle to victory. Watson would hit three triples in a row to help his team grab their first lead of the match after a sluggish start to the match. The lead did not last long as both teams would push each other to their limits; the lead often during the frantic pace of the game.

The scores were tight throughout the fourth quarter before Nash keyed an 11-0 run which effectively opened up the game; Nash’s third successive steal and layup, as a result of the theft, put the game out of reach for Seattle with 1:33 remaining in the match. “Jason may have led us in scoring,” Suns Coach Terry Porter stated, “But it was really Steve who broke Seattle’s back with that awesome display of heroics in the end.”

Notes: The NBA All-Star Game was held in Phoenix this year… Watson’s 8 threes tied his career high… Seattle shot .570 from three point range while Phoenix was .630… The loss inches Seattle a loss closer to falling back to .500 and out of the playoff picture; in ninth place…

Belinelli strokes it with 18 seconds left in the game

GOLDEN STATE (AP) – Italy’s Marco Belinelli turned up the heat on the Seattle Stealth and showed Warriors’ fans the shooting touch that made him such an exciting prospect as a rookie last season. Belinelli set a new career high in scoring, finishing with 27 points, and in the process willed his team to a morale boosting victory.

In the final minute and a half, Belinelli put on a show for the Golden State faithful; scoring three three pointers along with two free throws to ice the game and push it out of reach for Seattle with 12.5 seconds remaining. “Marco was due to have a game like tonight’s and we are lucky it happened when we needed him most,” team mate Monta Ellis stated. Ellis finished with 15 of his own points.

The game could have been won by either side with the way that Kevin Durant was playing. Durant was quiet for the first half of the game but exploded for 29 points in the second half, 22 of them scored in the final quarter. “I felt that we weren’t getting any closer so I had to put my foot down and try and get us the win,” Durant spoke of his scoring outburst. Rookie PG Russell Westbrook played a fine match finishing with 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals.

The game started with the Stealth going on a 15-1 run; courtesy of Westbrook’s hot shooting to start the match. Golden State would chip at the away team’s lead and close to quarter leading by 2 points thanks to back to back buckets from Belinelli. The Warriors continued with their scoring streak until they were leading 29-19 midway through the second quarter. Both team employed full court presses on the other, resulting in a low scoring first half. Golden State led 40-33 at the half.

Golden State seemed to have an unassailable lead midway through the third as they were leading by as many as 17 points but Durant returned to the floor and scored seven quick points to get his team back in the contest with a quarter left to play. Durant continued on with his scoring by hitting an array of jumpers and floaters in the lane. “No one could stop me,” he made a remark to press after the match, “Everything I put up felt good.” He felt so good that he even made a shot whilst falling backwards and the ball finally dropped after an agonizing handful of seconds where it seemed to refuse to go either way; in or out of the hoop.

Despite Durant’s individual heroics, the Warriors often stayed in the lead by more than three baskets. The turning point was with close to two minutes left in the game where Golden State had a chance to push the lead further but Ellis was called for a charging foul. With 2:07 left on the clock and the team leading 75-70, Chris Wilcox was fouled on his dunk. Wilcox missed the lone free throw but that was not to matter as Durant knocked in a triple to tie the score with 1:30 left. Belinelli hit back with a triple of his own on the other end and Durant proceeded to tie the game again, this time with a three point play after he was hacked on his way into the lane for a made layup.

Belinelli was on fire as he hit another triple and this time all the Stealth could muster was a layup from Durant with 1:02 left to get the Stealth only trailing 81-80. Corey Maggette drove in and scored a layup as Durant answered with one of his own on the other end. Then after running down the clock, Belinelli hit a three point dagger through the hearts of the Stealth with 18 ticks left on the clock. Durant missed a triple of his own and Belinelli was sent to the line for two with 12.5 seconds left. He hit both to seal the deal.

“We could have won tonight,” Durant said, “But we ran into that Italian guy.”

Notes: The loss means that Seattle slides back to .500… Belinelli scored 37 points in his first NBA Summer League game in 2007 but had a disappointing rookie campaign for the Warriors… Westbrook broke his career high in three pointers made…

I have decided I will not post simmed scores, instead I will just write a paragraph about my team in my monthly recap. I have also simmed to the next season to see if it all works out as planned... it seems that everyone will be drafted in the first round but cannot guarantee minutes on computer teams so I appologise in advance. Whether this pans out over time, we shall find out!
