Odom, Bulls Crush Bucks in Season Opener
Image

October 28th, 2008
Chicago, IL

Former Chicago Head Coach Scott Skiles' first trip back to the Windy City was not a good one, as the new look Bulls, led by newcomer Lamar Odom and Rookie Derrick Rose, as well as solid performances across the board, blows out Scott Skiles' new team - the visiting Milwaukee Bucks in the 08/09 Season Opener here in Chicago.

Lamar Odom led the way with 24 points, and was 2 rebounds shy of a triple double with 8 rebounds and 10 assists in just 28 minutes of play, he hit 10 of 11 field goals and was named the Jordan Player of the Game for his performances in this debut game as a Bull. Meanwhile, Rookie Derrick Rose, in his NBA regular season debut, had 19 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds in 30 minutes of play; Bulls star Ben Gordon added in 21 points and 6 rebounds, and 6th man Kirk Hinrich had 15 points and 5 assists to contribute to the victory; The Other New member of the Chicago Bulls, Sean Williams, had a decent game coming off the bench, playing in just 13 minutes as backup Power Forward/Center, he registered 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, was 2 o 3 from the field, and was a presence in the paint. The Bulls had 6 players scoring in double digits, the Bulls shot a staggering 60% from the field, a major reason for this blow out victory.

Meanwhile, the Bucks were led by Charlie Villanueva, who had 22 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and a game high 4 steals in 28 minutes of play, Michael Redd chipped in 16 points and 6 assists, while Australian Center Andrew Bogut had 14 points and 13 rebounds in the contest, newcomer Richard Jefferson had 11 points and 7 rebounds in 32 minutes of play. But it was not enough to stop Lamar Odom and the Bulls, who out rebounded the Bucks 47 to 38 despite Bogut's 13 rebounds and Jefferson's 7. The Bucks took care of the basketball, and had only 7 turnovers compared to the Bulls' 16, but the Bulls played some aggressive defense and forced the Bucks to take tough shots, which got them a 41% field goal percentage as opposed to the Bulls' 60%.

October 29th 2008 Bulls Wiretap

Chicago looking to add a Small Forward?
Rumor has it that the Bulls (1-0) are currently in search for a backup small forward, whether via trade or free agency.
Chicago is short on swingman and guards, as they have recently traded away Andres Nocioni and Larry Hughes for Lamar Odom, Odom's natural position is SF, but he is the starting Power Forward for the Bulls, the other starting forward is Luol Deng, whom the Bulls had resigned in the offseason to a very large, multi year contract, and rumor has it that the Bulls management are regretting that decision. Second year man Sefolosha is now the backup to the Small Forward and Shooting Guard position, and Kirk Hinrich is spending his minutes as a Combo Guard backing up Ben Gordon and Derrick Rose, but it would not work for long, as Sefolosha, besides his defense, is virtually useless out on the floor, the Bulls would need to find a player to play the backup 2/3 positions, and they'll need to do it fast.

Deng, Noah on trading block?
Besides the rumors about looking for a backup, there has also been rumors about the Bulls looking to ship away Luol Deng and Joakim Noah for a better starting Center.
This move, if it could be done, would benefit the Bulls a lot, they would no longer have the need to play small ball, Lamar Odom could go back and be the Point Forward that enjoys the game instead of doing the dirty work all day long, and Drew Gooden won't have to fight against 7 footers all game long.
Possible trade targets for the Bulls include Andris Biedrins of Golden State, Big Z from Cleveland, Australian Center Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks, or even Pau Gasol of the LA Lakers

Odom wants to resign after season is over
A Source Close to Lamar Odom said that Odom wishes to be resigned by the Bulls after this season is over.
This could prove difficult as the Bulls have both Ben Gordon and Drew Gooden to Resign also, and both are likely to be asking for large contracts.
However, it would not be entirely impossible if the Bulls were willing to go into the luxury tax threshold, which new owner Dennis Rodman would not mind to do so, unlike the previous owner.

Tyrus Thomas on his way Out?
Sources close to the Bulls have claimed that the coaching staff are not happy with the way Tyrus Thomas has been and might be looking to move him for a better Forward or Center backup.
Thomas has been struggling as of late, and even though he s being used more, his lack of defense and bad shot selection is a problem for the Bulls, and he is part of a Center/Forward jam due to his limited offensive ability and the fact that he's only 6'8". he might fall out of the rotation all together due to the recent good play from Sean Williams

Chicago Completes Another Three Team Trade, Acquires Joe Alexander and Rudy Fernandez
Just Hours after trade rumors leaked out, the Bulls have announced that they have completed a 6 player, 3 team deal (not using the term blockbuster because it's minor) with the Portland Trailblazers and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The trade involves Chicago sending second year swingman Sefolosha and Forward Tyrus Thomas away, with the former going to Portland, and the latter going to Milwaukee for the two rookies Rudy Fernandez (Portland) and Joe Alexander (Milwaukee), the trade also involves the Blazers sending Shavilk Randolph to Milwaukee for Francisco Elson to make the trade work under the salary cap.
The Bulls have lost their patience with Sefolosha and Thomas, as they have not been developing as projected, this was also done to strengthen their backup 2 and 3 spots, and to lose a chunk of salary so they could resign their 3 starters in the upcoming off season.

Josh Childress Returns to the NBA, Joins Pistons
Josh Childress, who in the off season started a European Basketball trend (chasing money to Europe) has apparently decided to return to the NBA, due to his salary unable to be paid from his team, similar to Kristic who returned recently and joined the OKC.
"It's unfortunate that Josh could not be paid accordingly, we would file a lawsuit to ensure that Josh gets his pay, but for now, Josh would like to return to the NBA and continue his basketball career" said Childress' Agent.
Childress was signed by the Detroit Pistons for a one year MLE deal.

Livingston, Mourning looking to resurrect career
Shaun Livingston and Alonzo Mourning, who both suffered terrible injuries, has recently just signed with the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat, respectively, for one year MLE deals.
Both of the players would love nothing more then to be able to play basketball in the NBA again.
Livingston suffered a gruesome injury in his leg, was waived by the Clippers, the Heat picked him up only to waive him again, he hopes that he would be able to stay and revive his career with the Mavericks.
Alonzo Mourning tore his patellar tendon in his right knee, the Heat has always kept a locker ready for him to return, and so he has.

NBA Rumor Mill
Felton wants to Stay - Raymond Felton, Charlotte Bobcats
- Knicks unlikely to make a trade
- Felton to the Magic?
- Agent: Felton told trade is imminent
- Nets rumored to be interested

Anthony Parker on the Block - Anthony Parker, Toronto Raptors
- Hawks rumored to be interested in Parker
- Lakers' Walton: "I'd be happy in Toronto"
- Rockets GM: Parker would be a good fit

Odom, Rose leads Bulls over Cavs
Image

November 8th, 2008
Chicago, IL

Despite a 33 point performance from King James and a 16 point 16 assist game from Mo Williams, the Cavaliers' 4th quarter comeback fell short, as they were defeated by the Chicago Bulls, 110-102.

Led by Lamar Odom and Derrick Rose, the Bulls had a comfortable 15 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but just as the starters were cooling down on the bench, King James led the way in his usual 4th quarter domination, leading the Cavaliers back from 15 down to tie the game, But Lamar Odom and Derrick Rose came back on, and it was over for the Cavaliers, who spent all their energy getting themselves back into the game.
"we were in the hole for too long, too deep, we tried to climb out but reaching the surface took all our energy already, we had none left to climb on top. Those 2 guys (Odom and Rose) had a great game, we just couldn't stop them" said Cavaliers Coach Mike Brown after the game.

Odom, coming off a triple double performance in a win over the Phoenix Suns the previous night, had another near triple double performance this game with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and a block in 30 minutes of play, he shot 7 of 12 from the field and went to the line 11 times, hitting 9 of those free throws. Meanwhile, Derrick Rose was named the Jordan player of the game after a 18 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals performance in 27 minutes of play, he shot an amazing 9 of 10 from the field, and had a couple of highlight jams while in transition.
Ben Gordon had a rough night, scoring only 14 points from 5 of 15 shooting, relatively new player Rudy Fernandez struggled also, scoring 11 points off the bench, but was only 3 of 10 from the field and 1 of 6 from 3 point land. On the other hand, Sean Williams had a solid game off the bench, with 5 points and 6 rebounds in 18 minutes of play.

For the Cavaliers, apart from Lebron and Mo, the other player who stood out was Ilgauskas, who had a very solid game with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 blocks in 30 minutes of play, he dominated on the defensive end of the floor. However, apart from those 3 and perhaps Ben Wallace, the Cavaliers did not get much contribution from the rest of the team, and were settling for outside jumpers rather then taking the ball to the hole, which explained why there was only 2 free throw attempts by the Cavaliers in comparison to the Bulls, who had 25 attempts in the night (they hit 18 of those), the margin of Attempts and Hit Free Throws are more then enough to turn the game's outcome the other way, and that also goes to the differences in Bench production, the Cavs only had 14 points from their bench, while the Bulls had 35, one other important factor was the fast break points, both teams had 16 turnovers but the Cavaliers only had 6 points from fast breaks, while the Bulls had used their fast break opportunities better, scoring 22 points from them, all these factors are more then enough to change the outcome.

The Chicago Bulls are now, surprisingly, 5-2 in the Season, and now sit on top in the Central Division, while the Cavaliers drop to 4-3, and are 3rd in the Central Division behind the Bulls and the Pistons.

Note: Several Sources close to the Bulls have confirmed about an offer from the LA Clippers regarding sending Marcus Camby for Bulls forward Luol Deng, other rumored offers for Deng are the Jazz's offer of Mehmet Okur. It is unclear at this point if the Bulls would pull the trigger on these offers, if they do exist.

Around the League: Bobcats(0-5) recently traded PG Raymond Felton to the Denver Nuggets (4-1) for SG JR Smith...Raptors(1-4) traded Anthony Parker to the Lakers(1-3) for Walton and 09 2nd round pick...Luke Ridnour (Bucks) on the trading block...Randy Foye(Twolves) on the block, Raptors/New Jersey could be interested...Raja Bell (Bobcats) is on the hot seat, Charlotte wants him out.

Nuggets' Billups Suffers Season Ending Injury
November 13th, 2008

Denver Nuggets Guard Chauncey Billups, who was acquired by the Nuggets in the off season from the Pistons for guard Allen Iverson, has suffered a torn ACL and would be out for the rest of the season, he would undergo surgery shortly.
"It is unfortunate, and the team would suffer without Chauncey, he's a great guy, a great player, we hope that he would recover soon and join us once his injury has been mended" said Nuggets Head Coach George Karl "The guys are just going to have to step up and try to fill in while he's out"

There has been a lot of injuries around the league as of late, including, but not limiting to Lakers' Guard Jordan Farmar (Broken Hand, out 4-6 weeks), Philly's Andre Miller (Broken Wrist, out 1-2 weeks), Utah's Kyle Korver (Separated Sholder, out 1-2 weeks), and many more minor injuries, but Billups' one is by far the most serious, the next in line is Farmar's Broken hand, and that'll only keep him out for 6 weeks. Another major injury that has just occurred is Jason Richardson (Suns) breaking his hand, he'll be out for 4-6 weeks as well.

The injury to Billups, however unfortunate, will open playing time for the recently acquired Raymond Felton, so it should be good news to him, in a way.

Cavs fan? :P Well they beat me a few days back (in the association, so now we are even, and as Obama said "You have LeBron, so the least we can do is gloat a little bit when we get one win." :D
very bad news for the Nuggets, even though i am no Billups/Denver fan, i dont think they can contend for a playoff spot now with Raymond Felton + Carmelo Anthony...
thanks for following :) the 2nd "fan night" game recap for November (blazers) would be coming soon

Bulls could pull trigger on offer for Deng?
November 15th, 2008

Image
Several Sources close to the Clippers and the Bulls have confirmed a possibility of Chicago accepting the LA Clippers offer of center Marcus Camby for forward Luol Deng.
"it's very close right now" quoted the source of the information, who would not disclose his name.
The Move would allow the Bulls to get some size up front to help Drew Gooden and move Lamar Odom to Small Forward, where he is very effective from.
It will also help the Bulls to be rid of Deng's large contract, which he signed with the Bulls this last off season.
So Far, Deng has not lived up to his contract, averaging career lows in every category and complaining about playing time.
The Chicago Bulls Assistant GM Scottie Pippen has declined any comments, and GM Dennis Rodman could not be reached.

Atlanta openly shipping Mike Bibby
November 15th, 2008

Image
Reports have indicated that the Atlanta Hawks are actively contacting the other 29 teams in the league with regards of trading away their allstar guard Mike Bibby.
Bibby was acquired in a mid season trade last season.
Rumors of a trade in the works already includes a deal with the Suns, or the Celtics, or the Grizzlies, but a more possible one could be a confirmed offer from the Dallas Mavericks of Jason Terry.

i'm leaning towards making the deal as well, Camby's contract is shorter and for less money each year, he's still a very good defensive player, and my depth chart would be like this with him...
Camby/Noah/Gray
Gooden/Williams
Odom/Alexander
Gordon/Fernandez
Rose/Hinrich/Hunter

much easier to defend with then my current lineup (centers are killing me...and i give up too many offensive rebounds..)

Deng has been b*tching about playing time anyways...and is averaging something like 10ppg only...i'm giving him 25 minutes a game already :?

Bulls pull the trigger once again, accepts Clipper's offer for Deng
November 18th, 2008

After another horrible game by Luol Deng, in which he went 0 of 5 from the field and scored only 2 points, the Bulls management have decided to accept the Los Angeles Clippers' offer of veteran center Marcus Camby for Deng.

"We are happy that we got such a great defensive player in Marcus Camby, he is experienced and skilled, he's got the size we need, we think he'll be great for us." said Scottie Pippen, assistant GM to the Bulls "All the same, it was hard for us to send Luol away, he had been a great guy for us, on and off the court, we wish him the best of luck in his career."

The Bulls (7-4) have had Deng on the trading block since he voiced his displeasure about the lack of minutes, and has been struggling, averaging career lows. While the Clippers (9-2) just wanted Camby out because he was out of the rotation, and in Deng they have now gotten a starting SF that they could use.

Camby would be joining the team immediately, normally this wouldn't be the case, but since the Bulls were in LA anyways on a road trip against the Lakers, the Clippers agreed to have Deng and Camby's physicals taken in Los Angeles, and have Camby join the Bulls immediately, he would be available in the Bulls' game against the Portland Trailblazers in Portland tomorrow night.

Camby would switch to number 21, his number while he a rookie, since 23 is retired by the Bulls in honor of Michael Jordan

Lindsey Hunter agrees with Bulls' Extension offer
Image
Veteran guard Lindsey Hunter has agreed to the Chicago Bulls' extension offer of 1 year, 442k. His Contract is now extended to after the 09/10 season.
Hunter provides a defensive presence when needed (rarely), but is mostly a mentor to the young Bulls squad.

South Korean Ha Seung-Jin activated from IR

Image
The Chicago Bulls have activated Ha Seung-Jin from their inactive rotation and have placed Aaron Gray in the inactive rotation.
It is unclear whether Ha would even play at all, but the fans in Korea are very excited already.
