Preview: Chapter 5
The rising sun blinded Sit as he woke up to the prodding of his chest. A low voice demanding Sit to wake up drew him away from his sleep. Sit adjusted to the bright light of the early morning sun and he opened his eyes. What he saw certainly shocked him as he scanned what was ahead. Sit was behind the wheel of his and ahead of him, he could see an overturned car. Police swarmed the car ahead, checking it inside and out. Sit tried pinch himself but couldn’t as a lanky police officer with a goatee pull him out of his car. Sit was then turned to face his vehicle and pushed against the passenger door. He felt the cold steel handcuffs slap against his wrists and lock together in a tightening grip. The policeman checked if Sit had anything on him and found his wallet in his back pocket. Pulling it out with one hand, the policeman looked at the drivers’ license carefully.
“Mr William Sit, I suspect that the murder of the man in the other car over there is related to you,” The officer seemingly recited, “You are now under arrest. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say, may and can be used against you in the court of law.”
Sit was then forcefully pulled back from his car and shoved towards a police car. The stronger man pushed Sit into the back of the squad car and accidentally hit him in the head. Unbearable pain rushed through his head as he was thrown onto the seat. Sit struggled to stay awake and he felt colder and colder. A voice shouted out his name. Sit! His whole world turned black as a phone rang.
Sit awoke to the ringing of his home phone. He groaned as he picked up the phone at his bed side.
The clock on his table read 10:34 AM and Sit mumbled into the phone, “Hello.”
“Hey Sit, it’s Albino. Why didn't you pick up before? You going to come down to the office today?”
Sit sat upright and answered, “Yeah, of course. I will come in now. Anything urgent?”
“Not really, we just got some things to do and plus you’re late,” Albino said.
Sit stood up, walked towards the bathroom and picked up his toothbrush to start brushing his teeth, “I will be right there.”
Albino hung up on the other end and Sit continued to get ready for another day at work. His answering machine indicated that there was one new message. Sit pressed the play button and listened to Albino shout his name on the recording. As he put on his suit and got ready to leave, he thought about the dream he had had. That was one weird dream, he thought as he tied up his shoelaces. He walked out of the door, locking it behind him and went outside to find Albino waiting.
“You’re here to pick me up Albino? Thanks a lot man, I’m so glad to see you.”
Albino looked at Sit weirdly, “Anything wrong?”
“Just a bad dream,” Sit replied.
Albino started the car up and the drive into the office was quiet apart from when Sit decided to tell Albino about his dream and whether it meant anything. He told Albino about the time where he had seen a horse race in his sleep and saw the number of the winning horse. Sure enough, Sit would go and bet on that horse to win.
“I won two hundred bucks from that,” Sit proudly exclaimed, “Maybe this time, I’m going to be able to cheat my own death or save another guy’s life! What do you think?”
Albino just shrugged, kept on driving and thought to himself, you're a crazy one!
Albino dropped Sit off at the building’s entrance and he said to his friend, “You better go up quickly before you get into trouble.”
Sit nodded and jumped out of the car and ran inside to catch the next lift up to his office. It was a quick ride up to the top floor of the building as Sit wasted no time to get to his office. As he walked briskly past his secretary, she smiled at him and Sit smiled back.
“Will,” She said, “Good luck.”
He was bewildered by her words, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing,” She replied hastily as she picked up a box of documents and left the room.
Sit straightened his tie with one hand before opening his office door. There was a loud thump as Sit dropped his briefcase. There was a familiar man sitting at his desk…
