Just speculation, but these next-gen consoles are gonna be more powerful than PC's for about 6 months, at least the XBOX360 because it's coming out first. PS3 will probably be coming out with the next-generation of video cards for PC, so computers will probably be on par by then. At any rate though, to play at max resolution, you'll probably have to have a high end video card from this generation (GeFORCE ULTRA 6800, Radeon 850 XT) or a first gen, or the ones coming out later this summer.

just so you know, computers are superior to consoles. by the time the ps3 launches computers will already have out done it. ps3 will not be making video cards for the pc.

with all the new added power to consoles the price has jumped a huge amount. the best arguement console players had over me and fellow pc gamers was the price. with the price of consoles coming close to that of a pc(if you build instead of buy), do you think its worth all the added power at the increased cost?
i notice that consoles are coming ever closer to being computers basicly. what i would like to see is the option to upgrade consoles. maybe give us a new vid card after a year or 2. something like that.

Computers are superior to current consoles, not next-gen consoles. And I doubt they will be superior by the time PS3 launches, on the CPU side PC's will still be far away from PS3 as PS3 will use the Cell processor, and PC's are just now getting 2-core processors. Xbox 360 will have a 3-core processor. On the GPU side, I think PS3 will be on par until maybe next Christmas, then the PC will take control again by early 2007.
You have to look at consoles differently, just because the specs don't necessarily line up with PC's doesn't mean it's significantly less powerful. The current xbox plays doom3 on it, and it's a 4 year old console, with an old Pentium 733 Mhz in it, with a GeForce 4 GPU. While the PC version is superior to the Xbox version, imagine trying to run Doom 3 on a 733 Mhz processor and a GeForce4.
Don't get me wrong, in the end computers always end up better than consoles for the simple fact that you can't upgrade them, and computer products continue to improve.
And I don't recall saying anything about PS3 making video cards for the PC.

I think someone is forgetting the fact that the Intel P5 (64 bit chip), is coming out soon... And IIRC the PS3 is a 32bit chip.... Meaning a 2.4ghz P5 would outperform a 4.8 ghz 32 bit chip
