Some questions - dbcommander

Postby Mahoney_jr on Sat Aug 02, 2003 6:15 pm

Hallo!

I read quite a lot here, now it's time to log in and ask some questions ;) Unfortunately I didn't found the needed answers while searching your data.

1. When I am editing dbf-files, sometimes the changes won't be saved. I normally copy the players.dbf in another folder, make the changes (automatic color headband for pierce, robinson, butler for example) and close the dbcommander. There is no save function, isn't it? Especially when I edit dunkpackage, careerpackage or scorearea. Then I copy the file back and start the savegame (up to now, I only edited franchise-savegames, no roster ;) ). After this, when I'm checking the players.dbf once again, the the data has been set back. Why is this :?:

2. dstats - they are somewhat lower then the ig-player-stats. What is the exact formula? I know, that I've read the answer a while ago on this board, but I couldn't find it

Thanks a lot.

1. Data should be automatically saved as you work. It always does for me, so I'm not sure why it doesn't work that way when you use DBCommander.

2. Dstats are based on the previous year's season statistics. By default, rookies have projected season statistics based on their potential/scouting reports.

Thank you, but I made a mistake ;) I wanted to know how to calculate ingame player ratings from the dbf-values. For example, Ratliff has 26 points in dribbling. How good is his ig-rating in this case?

It's quite easy to calculate.
You have to divide 26 with 2 (=13) and assume that to 50. Then you have the ingame rating.

In the DBF:

0 to 1 = 50
2 to 3 = 51

and so on.

hi there,

i'm pushing my own thread 'cause ther're some new questions ;)

1. what means "envelope" in the players dbf.file. i think it has something to do with playerprogress in franchise but i don't know how the ratings are scaled and what's the real purpose

2. ingame: layups misses more often then dunkings and i don't talk about blocked shots. what player rating influences the chance of hitting the basket with a layup? inside scoring, dunk, fg?

3. what player rating influences the chance of scoring by hookshot? inside, fg?

Ok, that's why Troy Hudson misses so often his layups under attack...

back to the envelope ;) i know the editing guides, but "Used for player development, assigned by game in Franchise Mode" is not all the information i would like to know.

envelope rating seems to go from 0 to 29 and it seems that players with good careerpkgs will have lower envelope ratings. and it seems that somebody (eddie griffin at my actual rockets dynasty f.e.) with "0" in envelope will go two points up after the season (tested).

can you give me an exact overview about the scaling and the conclusion between careerpackage and envelope? for example, a player with an "A" careerpack has a 10% chance of getting an "0"-envelope and a 10% chance of getting more than 9 env.points? does envelope or does careerpackage effect progress in the end? i have problems to explain what i mean... my english is not very well, sorry for that ;)

i would like to know how playerprogress is really calculated by the programm.

and i have a question about an own urban legend ;) is there a chance of negative effect for player progress if you sign up big long-term-contracts? ;) many players become lazy with six safe years

I don't know any details about the specific envelopes, but CAREERPKG is the rating you should change if you want to modify a player's development potential. There's no need to mess around with the envelopes.

No, that's not true. The only factor that determines player development is the CAREERPKG.
