Talk about NBA 2K17 here.

75 improvements in 2k17 (Mike Lowe - OS)

So this is the article we've all been waiting for i guess. Mike Lowe from Operation Sports got to visit 2k studios and talk to the devs, who told him a bunch of tasty info to get hyped about: NBA 2K17 Features Improvements Across The Board, Here's 75 of Them

 Lots of buzzwords and overhyped promises, BUT there's LOTS of good stuff in there.

Here's some stuff that stood out to me:

Shoe accuracy and other accessories will now update as NBA players change their look throughout the year.

Does that mean accessories wont be tied to roster files anymore? Because that'd be pretty handy for roster makers. (Y)
So the 2K team set out and traveled over 16,000 miles to record actual audio from each NBA arena.

  • Literally, every single court now has unique audio for a ball dribble based on the stadium being played in. We heard the difference, and while subtle, it's one of the most remarkable attention-to-detail items I've ever seen in gaming.
  • Arena horns, although similar are all unique across the NBA. Again, a montage showed the subtle differences.

(Y) (Y) (Y)
Total user control over expansion AND contraction.

Interesting.
Expansion can be turned off entirely. You can also contract teams you do not like in MyLeague (there was no mention anything about a reallocation draft, FYI).

What does that mean?
Perhaps one of the most impressive features - Dynamic rule changes. For instance, league meetings will occur during the offseason. An extreme example would be the league voting on using a sudden death OT rule change--first bucket wins. Extreme cases such as this are very rare, we were told. More common would be changes to the shot clock timer, back clock timer, etc.

(N) Why bother with something like that? Focus on fundamentals.
Eventually, every few years, your league's CBA will eventually expire, and then you'll see big changes to the finances within your league. This is a quite unique feature, and something typically only seen in rare sport text simulations such as Out of the Park Baseball's "random league evolution."

Ok THAT's interesting.
You'll now see trades which can include draft pick protections (a 1st rounder, but only if it's not the first three picks) and pick swaps (we'll take either your 2nd in '17 or 2nd in '18)

It only took them 5 years. But that's good. (Y)
Advanced rotations--a whole new gameplan that not only allows you to slot your minutes like before, but actually when your players play those minutes and with whom those minutes are played with. Players will typically play in units. This is very deep, but can also be autoed by asking for coach recommendations.

Sounds great! (Y) Much needed.
Jersey retirements now exist, and logic has been put in place to prevent a player having their jersey retired after a short amount of time on team.

Sweet! (Y) It's all about making history after all.
Easier roster/draft class editing -- can now edit an entire roster at once on one screen, not player by player.

I can't even imagine how that would work well? But i'm all for improving editing. (Y)
30+ more features such as hot zone customization, new sorting logic, proper re-trading rules added, etc.

They finally brought that back. Good.
There is a huge emphasis this year on smooth animations

(Y)
Coaching intangibles

Interesting.
Extend the pressure, and you can control the help (literally assign who you want to press, etc.)

I wonder if that will fix the dumb over-helping from 2k16 :o

If this game can pull off what this article promises then we're in for a treat. I must force myself to manage my expectations, because every year i get disappointed about something because my imagination of the upcoming game is always better than the reality. But, nice to hear some actual info after weeks of silence.

After reading this i will likely pay for pc copy this weekend. All the editing rosters/ draft classes etc is enough to satisfy my needs.

Also like that rule changes happen and cba changes

Interesting details.

I wish my computer had enough specs for this game. I don't have any money to improvise it.

So much of it is based on the processor, not even the graphics card. My brothers graphics card went, so I got him a $100 AMD graphics card ($200 less than the one that was in it), and he runs the game on high settings because he has a 3.8 GHZ solid processor. His runs as good as mine and I have a $300 graphics card in mine, but my processor is a 3.5 GHZ. We refuse to overclock, so we just operate as is.

I think part of the 2k14 modding team that WOULD move over to the newer 2k's could if they gave there existing rig a chance. One of my frustrations in regards to modding the new games is the size of the community doing it. We need to get more people on board.

Btw, I am not saying you have a rig that can handle it badger, just making an overall statement. Again, not assuming that most everybody can run these games, but I am saying that some out there can but don't know that they can.

Note that CPU speed isn't the only thing affecting it's performance.

If you take performance of one core from current (even 4 generations back actually) Intel CPU at 3 GHz, it will completely destroy one core from current AMD CPU also at 3 GHz.

In other words, you can't simply compare two different CPUs by their clock only. That can be done only if you compare CPUs from same manufacturer and from same generation.

You are correct. I rushed through my post while I was at work. Either way, I stand by the fact that many who don't think they can be run the game might be able to. Even if its just on medium/low settings.

Some very good and promising news across the board. Something that I wasn't so thrilled about in regards to 2K Pro-Am, though:

Leveling up as a team - Amateur team which is limited in their capabilities and customization, then Pro with more abilities and customization, such as different arena features (think HUGE team wall murals which looked incredible). Elite status is next which is very special. Custom importing of pictures is granted at this level, and overall much expanded from last year. Also sponsors which brings in extra VC. Work up from Elite level 1 to Elite level 6.

So you have to get to the Elite level to import custom images? That's pretty off-putting, as that was a big part of the mode in NBA 2K16. I don't fancy the idea of everyone being stuck with some generic logos until you level up enough to put your own team logo into the game. When I read about those levels in yesterday's post, I figured it had to do with matchmaking, which would've been a good move. As it stands, that sounds like it's a bad move, unnecessarily restricting users and taking the fun out of the mode.

Call me a weirdo, but I really like basketball games where there's no doubt that it is a video-game, from any perspective. There's a reason why I still play games such as NBA Live 2000 and 2005 and that is it. I don't like tons of animations (some variety is nice but not that much) nor those real lightning and sweat effects. There's not a lot I can do about anims, but I usually end up lowering the player details in those next-gen games, even though my unit can usually run those games on high settings just fine. I might be the only one, who knows..

Anyway, I wasn't going to buy this year's game until they dropped the price occasionally, but then I saw this: "Easier roster/draft class editing -- can now edit an entire roster at once on one screen, not player by player."

Now I am almost pre-ordering this thing. Dammit..

Not weird for me in terms of presentation. I just want an option to turn off all cinematic breaks and skip directly to user input needed. Wasn't something like that in some baseball game from a few years ago? Must've been a 2K one.
Not only because I don't care about extreme realism, but mostly because it doesn't matter how many decorative, off game stuff they work on, after a handful of games you've seen them all and now they're just wasting your time.
And the biggest reason why I want something like that is because MyPark and ProAm are directly tied to MyCareer progress, forcing the user to grind through endless games just to unlock stuff that make you relevant online.
I wish they went with a separate avatar for online like FIFA does, one who's specific online merits improve it and not one that improves because of what you do on a quite obviously, separate game mode.

I certainly hope so. That is my biggest gripe with the game. I'd rather concede a layup instead of a corner 3.

Updated shoes and clothes on a weekly basis? Different buzzer sounds in all the arenas? Are you friggin' kidding me? Who cares about this nonsense? How about fixing the major holes in the game - like scumbag losers hacking the game (PC) and ruining the experience for the rest of us. These people have made their avatars 100ft tall and when they move, their limbs extend all over the other 8 courts in MyPark, causing flashing and slashing similar to screen tearing.

And the "legit hackers" only have 99 speed and 99 quickness, blowing by normal unhacked good defenders like me.

I've "friended" these losers on Steam just to curse and call them out. Their defense is that "everyone does it" and that they were getting killed by everyone until they cheated.

Good article. But it didn't address MyPark and any possible changes there. Any word on that?

The only make or break request I have is anti-cheating online. It'd also be nice if 2k didn't break people down into 3 parks and not allow people from one park to play with another unless in a squad and at a high enough level. What is this the Bloods vs Crips? For the past 2 years, Sunset has been the ONLY populated park here in NYC. Every other park (Flyers and especially Riders) is a ghost town.
