I mean really, unless you're a scientist what does any of it matter to your daily life? And if you are a scientist, well, you're probably not going to get anywhere in the practical fields if you can't replicate it in the real world. Theoretical science is another story, there you can just make up whatever shit you want about membranes dirty dancing with each other creating all of existence.

The problem with a literal interpretation of the Bible (or any religious tract) as the only set of rules, events, ideas, concepts, etc. is that it's limiting and not the point in the first place. The Bible, any religion, any belief set, is an outlining of a moral philosophy. The stories in the Bible are primarily meant to be illustrative, not definitive. They are allegorical and metaphorical, specifically chosen for a point. They aren't everything and the only things that happened, they are chosen to outline specific tenets. Aristotle's dialogues are not an autobiography and everything he ever did, they are specifically chosen, not to tell us about the man but, to illustrate the core of his philosophy.

This is why attacking the "seven days" vs the big bang theory, or evolution vs. creation, and so forth is silly. As many Christian scientists (i.e. scientists who are Christian, not followers of the Christian Science) have no problem following evolution and atomic theory by pointing out a seemingly obvious point that the "seven days" of Genesis are not "seven Earth days" but instead a representation of all time that existed before man. We cannot disprove a Divine hand, just as we can't prove one. Most all historians agree there was a Jesus, did he walk on water, turn it into wine, and was he the son of God? Does it matter? Does it automatically disprove his teachings and philosophical tenets if he wasn't?

By tying any pro-religion/anti-religion debate to the supposed "facts" of the religious works both sides can avoid defending their philisophical positions on their nature and can instead run around pointing out the flaws in the "facts" of both sides and insulting each other for supposed sins.

Declaring you're right in your moral positions because you do or don't believe in a God is a fallacy. It's simply an attempt to discredit the argument of an opponent without addressing the argument.
