2k23 english.iff and font stuff --- things to write down before wandering away

well, losing interest in fiddling with 2k23... just wanting to play... i know my wanderings....

anyways, sidenote, really enjoy 2k23 gameplay, can turn down body collision slider to how i want, can adjust shooting defense contest stuffs.... but in 2k23 myleague... cpu always makes open green slider... was driving me crazy because, you know, i'm not the best in-game defender on ball, and they 100% making wide open shots

fixed it by fiddling with CPU Shot Coverage Impact --- i guess turn down to 0 or 10 ... and being "wide open" doesn't impact their shot percentage... anyways, i got it at 0 and they now miss some wide open shots .... just putting it here, haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else in slider discussions... but yeah, i'm not too good at the game.. enjoy the game, but not the best on ball defender ... with 0 the cpu misses most wide open shots, might have to raise it to 20 or so

i also fiddling with USER shot coverage impact and USER Shot Timing Impact --- user shot timing impact at 50 makes you need a completely perfect relase for made jump shot ... down to 0 or 10 ... slightly early or slightly late can go in... helps me, because, once again, i'm not super great at getting Perfect relase on jumpshots .... just some notes to help user/cpu shooting

=========================================================================================

now to font stuff
can open english.iff with 7zip .... has lots of stuff

lets talk about font scene name: jd_lcd_rounded
if no adjustments to english.iff ---- just default --- and put jd_lcd_rounded in scene ... will turn tricode to the dotted font (font 27 on my font preview post) viewtopic.php?f=279&t=114496&start=50#p2071818

!! Led Regular UI 2K.a36be731d647dc44.font !! ------> the hex looks similar to 2k14 font hex portions, but not sure about the bottom half... is a dds/bmp.. but strange or compressed
!! Led Regular UI 2K_Shrink_0.be90c89389719415.dds !!! ------> dds file - opens in gimp
!! led_regular.FONT2 !! -------> can open in notepad plus ... like a scene file ... possibly could rename to led_regular.SCNE and open in blender... dunno... i had to reset my windows 10 last week because of blasted bitdefender... long story, so i got no programs set up for modding ... still super annoyed about that

anyways,
the led_regular.font2 has these paramaters for dds exporting
Image

oh, that's the druk_bold.font2 ... fuck it , too lazy to grab the led one... same concept

anwyays, cant edit font2... crashes the game ... i don't know how to export dds with specific paramaters... probably cause i use gimp... but if you change the dds ... then export correctly, maybe able to change font....

anyways, testing went like this ...

change home_team_tricode font name to jd_lcd_rounded in the scoreubg_opt.SCN file
reset scoreboard
home tricode is lcd dots ---- font 27 on my preview

1) open up english.iff
2) drag 3 druk_bold files to desktop
3) Rename druk fonts to lcd fonts:
druk_bold.FONT2 -> led_regular.FONT2
Druk Bold_Shrink_0.b08051210ae47956.dds -> Led Regular UI 2K_Shrink_0.be90c89389719415.dds
Druk Bold.4ce2f2a77292b6af.font -> Led Regular UI 2K.a36be731d647dc44.font

4) drag the renamed files back into english.iff

5) Restart ingame to reset scoreboard .... (sometimes i had to exit 2k23 and restart program... english.iff fiddly or something)

6) scoreboard home team now has druk font.... but the scene file is still labeled jd_lcd_rounded ... so those three files control the fonts

after testing --- default english.iff druk is named other stuff: see next 2 lines
druk bold is number 2 ... can do the hex or can just put action_nba_bold in the scene file
druk wide is number 6 ... barlow_bold_condensed_stroked .. can just put that in the scene file... nice font ...

didn't test druk_super or druk_medium

during testing i had an extra space after the scene file ... and it defaulted the font... just watch for no extra spaces

anwyays, that all i know about fonts... not sure about the dds saving ... but if y'all can properly save the dds paramaters, maybe able to have new fonts

or it might be like 2k14 where the font has 2 layers see tutorial viewtopic.php?f=154&t=113390 tool was build on 32 bit system... some programmer would have to update it to 64bit system ... but i never asked anybody, just vm installed windows 32 bit

anyways, that all i know about fonts ... and knowing myself, patrician enb for sse just dropped, so probably will wander away for a while ... but fonts may be changed, dunno, got nothing installed because of having to reset windows 10

have a good day, y'all.

great post as always, glad to see you around again ;)

To avoid textures crashes, just remove those lines (for each dds) :

I made this a little while back in case anyone finds it useful. The left column is titled "SCNE Name" because -- as you allude to -- the font table names (i.e., VC_Font names) do not actually correspond to the literal fonts in many cases. This image reflects how the fonts appear by default. I omitted Eras fonts because they function exactly as advertised.

I know you said you don't need my hex color map, but I mapped out all these fonts on that too, just FYI.

A few other font side notes:

(1) Eras overlays unfortunately read from the shrink DDS instead of the vector data, resulting in pixelation at moderate to large sizes. I have upscaled the font shrinks so that they look clean, but that results in the reverse problem with the Eras scoreboards, in that when the upscaled shrinks are scaled down, there are artifacts. My solution was to replace unused fonts (crossword_belle and one other) with the original default Eras shrink and then use that exclusively for the scoreboard, for which it's properly scaled. It's tedious, but at least it's possible to get 100% clear fonts with Eras overlays. You'll see all of this in action in the upcoming Jordan Challenge project mod, led by hokupguy and to which I'm contributing.

(2) Related, but obviously some fonts are great candidates for replacements of the user's choosing. crossword_belle for instance is an obvious candidate. I once attempted to add a font to english.iff in the lobstertwo_italic slot, which is a slot in the font table, but not a font that is in the default english.iff, though it did not register for whatever reason. Perhaps I made a stupid mistake. In principle though you should be able to reorganize the fonts to replace duplicates with unique fonts, so that you have a wider font selection always at your fingertips. The worry though is that the default game may use those duplicate IDs rather freely, so it could result in unexpected font goofiness if you start replacing them. Or not. I just haven't really explored it because I don't personally have a huge need for many more fonts than the Eras fonts and what's in english.iff by default. The variants of Druk and Urania, plus Stratum Bold and the LCD font as needed, cover almost all the bases IMO.

(3) Credit to Mahmood for this discovery but all of the create-a-court fonts are extractable from the game and are as usable as any other. Some may be useful here and there. They are in their own IFFs. I forget their names, but if you go into create-a-court/arena and just go to the fonts and look at the Hook's file log, you'll see them.

nice font reference :) i didn't say i dont need... i said i don't want it ... too much modding tediums :) :) ... hahahaha ;) lots of good information. so, in your opinion, is it possible to add a new custom font?

the fonts from the online stuff looks promising... could download a bunch and make a reference database

OH, does anybody have the scorebug hex codes for city name? ... i can find it sometime soon, but if y'all got it, just post it here in this thread... would be easier for me, hahahah

edit, found them in an old rtomb post Try F1 FB 0B B5 for the away tricode and 79 81 B8 3F for the home tricode.

Hey man, we're kind of in the same boat, not really the best in-game defender on ball, i just want to enjoy the game. Chill playing as they say.
Got the "100% making wide open shots" CPU problem too in MyLeague before, but then I used Popboy's sliders. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6Y2EiNmVJo&t=13s)
Not affiliated with the guy, but using his sliders really added good experience in my gameplay.
Finally seeing uncontested CPU missing, which we can all agree is true to life.
Try it out man if you still haven't. (Y)

awesome, thanks for the suggestion... never heard of the youtube guy ... will try it tomorrow when the computer is free... running a grass cache on DynDOLOD that will probably take like 12 hours or something... dunno why i play skyrim

anyways, perhaps not much cross-traffic between skyrim and 2k players... but i load up skryim every 2 or 3 years... setup mods for 3 months, play like 2 weeks, then uninstall... i gots problems
.... but patrician enb for sse just finished... marmotte has been working on it the past year or so

phpBB [video]

video above is probably 300-400gb of mods... my pc isn't that strong, my load order only probably ends up at around 150gb of mods... anyways, for anybody that plays skyrim, y'all should check it out

but yeah, thanks for the slider recommendation. youtube video looks promising, and you and me probably got similar 2k attitude, so i think it will be a great set of sliders.

My hunch is that 100% custom fonts are possible, but only in-game (not UI) using Eras overlays as a base. They read from the shrink DDS, which can be edited however one wants. I haven't actually tested this to see if there are any hiccups, but I suspect it will work.

Skyrim and 2K are literally the only PC games I care about (though I'd care about GTA if I had the HD space). I've been too distracted modding 2K to play Skyrim much lately but I have a mod stack I'm happy with and want to get around to playing more.

Realized something about the Font Table tonight. Apply my color map to it to see. Will explain in more detail later if it's unclear.
