NBA Live going downhill

Postby yaboy on Mon Dec 22, 2008 10:20 am

Ok to start off I'm not trying to be a hater, but I am a frustrated basketball fanatic and former NBA Live fanatic.

I have played every NBA Live since live 1995... and I feel like the past few years the series has just gone downhill, and the last one that i actually enjoyed playing for a little was live 06.

These games used to be so fun, defense was always fun to play, the players used to move so much more fluid. Now everything is stop and go, and I can see when you bump into players while you're playin real ball but this is one of the things i feel like they are trying to make too realistic. It's just annoying, i feel like you have so much less control over things now.

I haven't really had genuine fun on an NBA game since nba live 2006 i feel like they are trying to make things too realistic these days or something and not focusing so much on gameplay.

i haven’t bought an nba game since nba 2k7… and the 1 i had b4 that was nba live 06…. and it just seems like nba live used to be such a good franchise like on maddens level almost but now the games are just not fun to me.

I think NBA 2k series is garbage and I've always liked live better but..
2k has been getting better ratings the past couple years if i'm not mistaken but those games weren't great either.

Anyway does anyone share a similar opinion? Or just let me know what you think.

I would definitely agree in regards to the PC version. NBA Live 06 was the last good release for the PC (and PS2 for that matter), 07 and 08 are riddled with issues that we've had limited success fixing ourselves and were particularly sloppy products out of the box. NBA Live 09 for the PS2 is just an unforgivable effort, the same issues that plagued NBA Live 07 and NBA Live 08 on that platform are still present and in some cases even worse.

However, there has been improvement in the Xbox 360/PS3 versions with NBA Live 09 in particular being quite a good game (albeit certainly not perfect) especially compared to the PS2 version and recent PC releases. I would say that the 2K games do deserve much of the praise they receive in professional reviews and from gamers in the community alike, though I feel some issues are overlooked or too easily forgiven and I'm not a fan of Isomotion so it's appeal as an alternative to Live for me personally is more limited than other gamers.

yeah i can see where you're coming from.

i'm not a big fan of simulation either and like when they try and add features and upgrades to things that aren't actually playing a GAME of nba live.. that's annoying to me because i feel like they should be working on the gameplay of the actual game rather than making all these features for simulation and all that other bs lol.

i just want to play man!! lol i remember when i used to play live back in the day when the Pacers and Heat would meet in the playoffs, and it would be the classic matchup of tim hardaway leading the heat against reggie and the pacers, and i had so many great memories playing those kind of matchups with game winners from reggie and tim and it was just a good time.

EDIT - o and just so ya know, i played the majority of my nba lives on ps1/ps2.
But I had Super Nintendo too... and anyway now i have 360 and i don't even buy them for 3 6.

It depends what you mean by simulation. If you mean simulating games rather than playing it I agree to an extent, gameplay should be first and foremost but when I'm playing a Dynasty game I also like to see the CPU teams producing realistic results and stats eg. the right players leading the league and their respective teams in scoring with numbers you'd expect to see in the real NBA.

Same with gameplay, I'd like to see the game simulate the real thing as much as possible which at the most basic level means the right players are giving you a challenge. If Kobe lights you up for 40 points, so be it as that's likely to happen. You don't want to get beaten or even just be challenged because Devin Brown drops sixty on you however.
