Substitution On the Fly

Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:55 am

EA really needs to change this feature. They REALLY need to make it easier to sub during the game. I have to have it on Auto Subs (which isn't all that bad) BUT, I like to do those type of things myself. And if Bosh has 4 fouls, they should take him out, not leave him in the game.

What do you guys think?

It's a bit awkward but how could it be much better? Signature Playcalling simplified calling plays on the fly but it would be harder to implement a similar method for substitutions since there'd be more options to choose from (at least one of five players to sub out, at least one of seven to sub in) so it would be difficult to limit the process to two button presses as with Signature Playcalling.

I prefer to sub during timeouts anyway but if I want to have subs pending for the next dead ball I'll just pause the game. I guess that's not ideal for online play though.

I agree with you. . .but I think they should steal 2k8's on the fly subbing, it's so much faster and easier to execute. just in case you see a matchup problem, it would be easier to just change instead of always calling time out!!!

I also noticed that if you have it on Auto Subs, you have to make sure you have the certain guys in the line up because the computer will not play guys like Bargnani who is supposed to be on the court. Jawai got more minutes than him and in reality, that wouldn't be the case

Agreed, auto subs do leave something to be desired but ever since NBA Live 95 I've preferred to make manual subs.

I find it very easy to sub on the fly. With the PS3 I just use the D-pad arrows to select my substitutions as i bring the ball up the court with the PG. it's much quicker than pausing everytime and doesn't require a time-out. I can't really see how EA could make it any quicker or easier than the on the fly d-pad menu.

The only way that comes to mind is something similar to signature playcalling but as I said before, that would be difficult to implement with all the different substitution options as opposed to calling one of four plays.
